We discuss the basics of the Outback Power Radian GS8048A/4048A hybrid inverter/charger. It's flexibility allows you to use it off-grid or grid-tied. It has pre-programmed profiles that allow you to use it in multiple ways, based on your needs. You can use it for grid-tied, battery backup, reserving the battery power for only when the grid goes out. It can be used for self-consumption, where you store your extra daytime solar energy to use later at night. It can be used with or without a generator. The Outback Power Radian series gives you the ability to configure the inverter/charger to meet your needs.
I have two of these in my home, I've been running on them for a little over a year, they are wonderful. When the neighborhood utility goes out I never even notice. The fans are a little noisy at full load but they are in the basement, the sound is reassuring. I did the installation myself, the manuals provided me with all the information I needed, a couple calls to Outback helped too.

I’m amazed that No one has brought up the fact that the power supply board 215 on these fails regularly and mines been down since December 5. Outback support is awful and they don’t have the part to fix , it and don’t know when it’s going to be available. I’m in line with several other people not sure when I’m gonna get this fixed. Think twice before you buy it.

If i buy a 4048 can i later upgrade it to a 8048 by just installing another power module and maybe some firmware?

This is the model we have. And it is killing us here. We got it with the Mat3s remote. The automatic start turns on for 2 minutes only after the batteries reach the set low voltage level. In Haiti with good batteries hard to find it's sometimes a nightmare.

When stacking 2 inverters, cam they both be set to two different battery banks? Or do they need to be on thr same battery bank?
Bought my Outback Power VFX3524 (and Mate 3) in May, 2015. Pretty much has been running for three years straight w/o any issues...single phase/six-circuit transfer. "Grid Zero" with that new Radian would be great (and a 48v lithium battery bank)...pretty much would be able to cover everything in the main service panel.

I did the gs8048a with lithium batts. from Battleborn. Systems been up and running great for a year now (got out system after hurricane Irma wiped us out in the U.S.V.I.
We run a three unit Villa and all have access in tropical climate. No more electrical bill !!!

we try to install two of Radian GS7048E module inverters but when we are going to start the system without any load . we have an events in MATT3 When we open the event there is a FAULT (AC Relay FAULT ACTIVE ) so please help us how to solve this problem .

I have a question, according to the Radian Manual it says "...These Radian models can work with any “split-phase” generator that delivers reliable AC power
at the appropriate system voltage and frequency. They cannot work with a single-phase or
three-phase generator."
What generators will work with this Radian Inverter?
Any 240V 60Hz generator. It needs 2 legs to work, so it won't work with just a 120V generator.
Can I stack this up to 12000w?
can a 4048 become a 8048 just by purchasing an additional outback inverter or is there more to it than just that. thanks
You can buy a second 4048 and stack them to get 8000W.
does this unit have a charge controller inside or do you still need a charge controller?
It does not have a solar charge controller. It only has an AC charger to charge from the grid or a generator. I Have the Outback Power Radian 4048A i want to add another Outback Power Radian 4048A as a back up and have 8,000 watts of power. how do you wire them together.
looking for 12kw. Can a 8048 be parallel with 4048? (less wall space and appears cheaper than (3) 4048'S)
Yes you can. The 8048 is really just two 4048s internal, so you can basically stack a third one with them.
i understand that you can only use a 220 volt generator.

You need a solar charge controller for the solar panels. This has an AC charger that can charge from an AC source like the grid or a generator.

The Beacon M5 was the best all in one inverter still have mine running but this one is available M5 is not.
My M5 Plus went down 2 years ago and I'm STILL looking for a similar replacement. They are out there but they won't work in North America.
