I used the ear plugs year's ago, after ages of struggling to get line, feathers, fluorescent string etc through the plugs I found out that putting them in the freezer stiffened them enough to either poke through or drill a tiny hole through them! They worked brilliant and I sometimes give them a try if nothing else is working.
