  • The Wicklow Way is a 130km walking route that goes across the dublin mountains. The northern section strarts/ends in Marlay Park in Co. Dublin and the southern section ends/starts in Clonegall Co. Carlow. We tried to do this route over 2 days on mountain bikes with all the equipment, food and water that we would require otherwise known as BIKEPACKING. This video is a record of what happened so enjoy.

    Well done lads. Just bike packed the wicklow way from ticknock to luggala , with my daughter and nephew on the mtbs. It takes a hell of a lot longer than expected. Hard going. 3 days, 2 nights. It feels like constant uphill.

      Ya Robert it took us by surprise too, we honestly didn't think it would take long to complete the trail but as you said it's a very physically demanding course. Hope your trip went well, it is very scenic and if nothing else you'll take great memories from it thanks for getting in touch all the best 👍

    Looks tough! I assume you planned on riding most of the sections you had to walk, makes sense you had to cut it short. What would you do differently if / when you do it again?

    • @theoutdoorsycrew1749
      @theoutdoorsycrew1749  2 роки тому +1

      IF I do it again I would probably start on the southern side of the trail and make my way North because the southern side has a lot more roads and then the further north you go the less roads there are so you would be able to warm up to the off road sections instead of starting into them immediately. The Northern side of the trail is also more scenic so it gives you motivation to keep going on the trail and something to look forward to. I would also bring some insect repellent because the midges can be bad depending what time of year you go, other than that I wouldn't change to much because it would take away from trying to do The Wicklow Way by bike which is what we set out to do initially but failed. I hope this answers your question if I missed something or you have another question you know where I am.
      P.S. If you try it let me know how you get on, good luck!

      Haha very good question. It does on occasion but not to often as you've observed. Normally you get a few good weeks in the summer but generally we plan these trips weeks or months in advance so there is a little bit of hoping involved every time we go on a trip. Thanks for getting in touch

      Well Damo if your at entry level it's probably all about how much you want to spend and if you'll think that you will enjoy. I'm guessing you already have a bike and the cheapest way to kit it out is probably a rack on the back with a couple of panniers (check out the switzerland videos in the channel that's how we got started) and if you want to go full on and get the bike packing bags it will get a bit more expensive but nowadays there are some nice bike packing bags that are on the cheaper side. If your more interested in getting the bike packing bags let me know what kind of budget and I can give you a few recommendations but you will likely have to buy these online let me know if I can help further

      @@theoutdoorsycrew1749 im thinking a bit like damian. i have a specialized elite 2021 mnt bike. i think it would be a great experience to try something like this. like most things, starting is the hard part. i see that you have a bunch of different bags placd on your bike. i was more so thinking of getting a one wheel trailer. do you think this is a good idea?

    • @theoutdoorsycrew1749
      @theoutdoorsycrew1749  2 роки тому

      @@noose2442 First off it is great fun if you like camping and mountain biking this is probably the sport for you. The trailer is good if you plan on doing some long distance road cycling as you can carry a lot of gear relatively easy. However judging by your bike you are probably more interested in doing the off road stuff. If doing the off road stuff you would probably be better off with the bikepacking bags as they force you to pack light and distribute the weight better across the bike. If you decide to go this route and you are not sure if you are gonna enjoy the sport maybe do a bit research and see what is the best budget bikepacking bags around there is loads of videos on youtube to help with that one. If this is still out of your budget do like we first did which is the cheapest option and get a rack and a couple of cheap pannier bags. I hope this helps a bit in informing your decision if you have any more questions I am more than happy to help just hit me up any time. Good luck and please let me know what you went with in the end I'd love to hear.

      Believe me the midges are bad try get a windy spot to make camp and fingers crossed it doesn't rain on you, I hope all the best on the route its a great route but very tough especially starting from Dublin. Enjoy it there are some great views and take a while to explore Glendalough it's a lovely part of the country steeped in history, good luck
