  • Bishop Barron is currently in Rome participating in the Synod on Synodality. For the next three weeks, we will be airing a Classic Sermon. Bishop Barron will return with all new sermons (and a new set!) in time for November 19, the Thirty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time.
Friends, the Books of Moses teach that the three types of Israelite law-liturgical law, ritual law, and moral law-shape and direct God’s people toward holiness and purity. While the liturgical laws have been carried over and the ritual laws largely set aside, the moral laws remain unchanged, for they represent those great abiding intuitions by which our lives should be structured.

Jesus, hear my prayers these past three years have been difficult on me I am weak. Give me guidance. Please come back soon I don’t know how much longer I can hold on. As a single parent things are hard on me both of my sons are autistic and my hours to work are limited because I’m now homeschooling them. I’m constantly struggling to provide the basic necessities for them I’m so ashamed. I suffered an heart attack and I’m battling lupus I’m overwhelmed. Lord heal me. Father God hear my prayers. I constantly struggle to pay my bills and struggle to provide groceries. BUT I KEEP FAITH. Even though I want to give up. Jesus please take the fear from my heart. Father God it is you that gives me the strength to keep going. I praise you Father even as I fear homelessness please continue to give me strength.

With a Conservative Jewish husband, we always enjoy when you discuss the Old Testament. It frequently leads to lively discussion between us. We both profited from today's homily. You always expand our view of scripture and for further growth. Thank you.

This is s sharing for the Bishop in the context of the synod. It is important to set up centers in all universities and colleges where students can go to develop their faith and spend time with Christ. I am specifically thinking of the Newman center that Fr. Mike Schmitz runs. Post secondary students are the most vulnerable in terms of their faith
development. Many have left home, are alone, their brain development is incomplete and this makes them ripe picking for moral/faith failure. I fell down that rabbit hole and fifty years later I am suffering from my sinful choices.
Let us throw a lifeline to our students. Thank God for World Youth Days. Let us develop the faith of our youth and save the vulnerable. The Catholic centers should be advertised prominently on campuses.

I appreciate the discussion of the three different types of Jewish Law that sets context for the moral Law. It's telling that it was as countercultural then as it is now, because God has ways that aren't our ways, and He calls us to make His presence known by caring for the least among us.

Once, after my husband had passed way, and I was struggling to keep our business on it's feet, a former employee sued me for an amount I didn't owe. There was several court mediations, none of which yielded any resolution.I came home very frustrated and despondent. I sat on my bed, and opened my bible.... Mathew, and out popped these words...."if thy brother demand of thee thy body coat, ... give him thy cloak also !!!!!." I was able to go back to court the next week prepared to pay the amount in total. The Judge halved the amount, and granted me time to pay it.
Three months later the employee called me and told me he was calling quits . no more need to be paid. If you are prepared to do what God asks, He comes in in ways we never thought possible.

Thank you for sharing the outcome of Jesus in the conversion of Cristian psychology, I myself need that constant space of forgiveness in order to purify a better work. I wish the Jews understood, this for they're still at war, nothing holly about it and the Muslim need an Everest task for the world to play with, in the best manner. Pray to all the countries to not participate on any side but to convert them, death is the best conversion... we're all under the same destine. AMEN. YES, WE'VE BEEN SHAKED BY LOVE AND COMPASSION.

Bishop Barron I'm the fellow that commented to you last week about Rabbi Harold Kushner, you had wanted me to converse with you at a site I wasn't familiar with. You may have thought I didn't believe in Christianity, I do. I'm just not afraid of ideas. In the past and presently I listen to you, Robert Schuller, Norman vincent Peale, Billy Graham, Rabbi Harold kushner, and Rabbi Abraham twerski. Lastly I do like the idea of Rabbi Harold Kushners belief that God is not all powerful in our physical realm, only in a spiritual realm. As kushner said many times a tornado is not a act of God, but a act of nature. A all powerful God in our physical realm would mean God watched the holocaust happen and did nothing. I reject that. I believe God inspired men to stop evil. Lastly I enjoy listening to you.

If God changed his mind and decided that the law should change then that would suggest He isn’t perfect and susceptible to change Himself. Or that he had a change of heart. Why would He do this if He wasn’t perfect? Surely He would’ve put the second Law in place first time around? Why not send Jesus BEFOREHAND?

@bishopbarron the challenge that I find is not that most people are not charitable and giving, but that there are those who would bastardize these teachings for political gain. I have always been taught that true charity comes from God, though us, to our fellow Man, and not imposed on Man by Man. Is this a fair way to see this situation?

Given the fact that Catholics have taken so much from the old testament, how do you so forcefully set aside the ancient latin Mass ?

    • @diannefitzmaurice9813
      @diannefitzmaurice9813 11 місяців тому +2

Because it is not relevant after Vatican 2! Every language is now declared relevant to worship! Latin is not prescriptive. It was simply a cultural norm.

@@josephtravers777 You comment indicates that you did not absorb what Bishop Barron said. There is a great deal more involved in the changes made in Vatican II including the liturgy and the manner in which the Eucharist is received.

@@diannefitzmaurice9813when I commented on the abandonment of the latin Mass, I was and am, referring to the multiple changes made in the Mass including the liturgy. And there were many. For me the bible is so obviously man written with no input from any god but it makes me smile when Barron can spin jesus changing 'gods word' into something completely different. As a species we shouldn't need this made up, in parts ludicrous crap anymore.

Dear Bishop Barron...IF you are correct???, that Jesus abbergated His very own Father's law,,, Why did ALL the apostles, Peter specifically, And Paul, continue to obey the Father, and Keep the law? Sorry, with ALL DUE RESPECT, you and most all the church have followed 1,700 year old Greek pagan practices... Not Yeshua. Not יהוה, Not God the Father... Shame on you...

Yes very beautiful! But i always object a bit to the expression God is perfect He doesn't need anyone. It's just because He is perfect that his nature want's itself to be shared. As St Paul says he would rather be damned than to see others get lost. But that would be immorel. But even the devil has kept this ressemblance with his creator to want to communicate himself, as the creator puts his qualities in the created. So needing to share is not a weakness, it's a sign of greatness, of perfectness, perverted in Satan, compromised in humans, and thus misinterpretated. God needed to create, not to the point he was forced to do so, but that He was free to do so. God imprisonned in Himself, and only to be generous with conscendance, that doesn't fit. He called us friends, children. On purpose.

Jesus is King of Israel, as Gabriel told Mary “he will sit on his father David’s throne” and “his kingdom shall have no end.” David was king of Israel, so Jesus is king of Israel; forever. Jesus said to fellow Jews “I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. These also I must lead, and they will hear my voice, and there will be one flock, one shepherd.” Jesus also said “when I am raised, I will draw all men to me.”
Paul says to the Ephesians “… you are no longer strangers and sojourners, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure is joined together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord; in whom you also are built into it for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.” Paul says to Timothy that the “household of God” is the “church of the living God,” the “pillar and foundation of the truth.”
The Hebrew people, Israel, were referred to as “Qahal” in Hebrew. In Greek this is translated as “ecclesia.” In Latin this becomes “ecclesiam,” which is translated as “church” in English.
God promised Abraham "... to your descendants I give this land, from the Wadi of Egypt to the Great River, the Euphrates ..." This is often interpreted as the area from the Euphrates to the Nile traveling East or from the Nile to the Euphrates traveling West; what is known as the Middle East. However, on a globe this also works traveling the "long way" around the Earth; traveling East from the Euphrates or West from the Nile. In Jesus Christ (Yeshua Mashiach) this promise is fulfilled; Israel under Christ's kingship has gone global.

It's hypocritical to say and not practice. To paraphrase Pastor Andy Oliver: 'dont tall about making room for Jesus in your heart if you cannot make room for Palestine who needs our help and safety. It is incumbent upon all of us to be present with those who are marginalized and oppressed '. As to the Israelist self claim they are the chosen, this is yet another example of disobedience and un-Godly nature. This is a classic homily from Bishop Barron, but why was it true then, and now that we are seeing acts beyond oppression of alliens, outright full-scale genecide of Palestine, why wont our faithful leadership speak up and stand with the oppressed... Deafening silence

If Israel is God's chosen people, the what does that make you, me and other Christians, and everyone else. Christ came to make everyone God's chosen people. The "so called chosen people" denounced Christ and insisted that Roman soldiers crucify him. One of the core messages of Christ and the new testament is that there is no more "a chosen people" because all humanity became chosen. Please use other ways to make your point because using this argument offends all Christians, Catholics, especially Arab and Palestinian Catholics.

Quran (only scripture with 100% accuracy/preservation) says Allah is “Al-Ahad”(one/indivisible).Philosophically, It is impossible for 3 distinct perfections to exist simultaneously. Father (Perfection 1/distinct1) =Son (Perfection 2/distinct2)=idolatry.This is due to addition of two extra perfections that are Co-equal/Co-eternal&distinct with Allah(the most Exalted). Not just the Quran, but also the old/New Testament textually establish tauheed(monotheism). So, then why believe in trinity and associate two imaginary parts to Allah(one/indivisible/Self-Sufficient/All-Loving)? How could your love/worship be undivided/exclusive for Allah(the most Exalted) when there are two other equally unique/perfect entities to adore? The verses of bible used by trinitarians are extremely vague and require hard interpretation to extract the understanding that Father/Son/Holy Ghost are Co-equal/Co-Eternal&distinct.
