    Hey Imperial! I just wanted to let you know that I found your video about King Ludwig absolutely fantastic, especially as someone from Bavaria. I really enjoyed it!
    I wanted to suggest that it might be smart to offer a German audio version of the video on UA-cam. The content is really interesting, particularly for people from Bavaria. If you can’t do it yourself, maybe you could consider getting someone to translate it into German. Perhaps you could collaborate with the team from Simplicissimus or find a voice-over artist.
    I believe this would make your video even more appealing to others like me, who might not be fluent in English.

    One thing needs to be said. The goverment didn't just start this whole mess just because Ludwig threatened to destroy the goverment if it didn't take his personal debt. They already had a very negative opinion about him. Even if he was personally against the lose of independence, his rule has probably one of the most important causes why Bavaria became a part of the new German Empire. Basically, Ludwig started his rule joining Austria against Prussia, being defeated in the process and forced to sign a treaty of military cooperation with Prussia. Years after, when Germany finally unified in 1871, Ludwig gave its support to the unification, even going as far as to send letters to other German princes to ask for support to the new project elaborated by Prussian Chancellor Otto von Bismarck. Some could say that this avoided Prussia a lot of trouble, as the second most powerful state in what is now Germany appeared to be completely supportive about the process of unification and, with this movement, Ludwig either persuased some of the most cynical princes that unification was for the best, while also a clear message to anyone that opposed that, if they tried to go against Germany, they would do it on their own, there would not be an "Anti-Prussian coalition" in Germany liderated by Bavaria, the only kingdom that could represent an opposition.
    This decision basically ended Bavaria as an independent state without even trying to fight (also true that the goverment of Bavaria secured really good concesions, most notably being able to keep the Bavarian Army under their control except during times of war) and that, even in the time of rising german nationalism, was very unpopular in a catholic country that saw itself being ruled by the protestant aristocracy of Prussia. There were rumors, and it is still debated by historians to this day, that Bismarck bribed Ludwig, since one of the first movements of the new German goverment was to take some of the already high debt of the Bavarian King. Personal letters to his uncle by Ludwig are confusing, since he seems to imply that he did what he did to avoid a war and an even worse fate for the country, but also being very negative about the whole process, even talking about the "satanic policy of Prussia". So, he could have just avoided a war that they couldn't win, or he literally betrayed the country he ruled for financial support of his already unsustainable patronage of the arts. One way or another, there were a lot of people in the Bavarian political system that wanted Ludwig removed, and his behavior threating to dismiss the goverment was just the last straw.

    Med student here with a heart for forensic medicine. When drowning in freshwater we normally find lungs which are (mostly) dry and show signs of emphysema (which is called emphysema aquosum). So drowning in freshwater is very much the cause of death since water was also found in his stomach (which implies he had to be still alive when he was forced under water).

    • @Mountaingoat4234
      @Mountaingoat4234 4 місяці тому +2

      Do you know why the lungs appear mostly dry with freshwater as opposed to salt water? That's interesting

    • @louisnoll7066
      @louisnoll7066 4 місяці тому +8

      @@Mountaingoat4234 Freshwater is simply hypotonic compared to the blood in the surrounding lung tissue. So water follows the osmotic pressure and diffuses from the alveoli into the the blood vessels. Seawater is hypertonic compared to the surrounding lung tissue which draws water in the alveoli from the blood vessels. Since diffusion takes place even well after death, freshwater in the alveoli will (completely) disappear, the lungs look just like anyone's lungs who had died on dry land.

    people tend to be more happy when they have made their peace with taking their own life. and if you're going to find a way to do it, you're going to fully cooperate with everything around you so that you're more likely to have the chance... Theres a lot there that completely lines up with the murder-suicide theory... its really tragic, considering the doctor sounds like one of the few people who actually cared, and was trying to do the right thing. at the same time, i can't fault the king.... just a tragedy all around.

    Ludwig II was certainly an interesting and tragic character. Imagine a different life for Ludwig in which he was never saddled with the duties and responsibilities of being King and he was given the proper psychiatric care for whatever issues he had.

    an absolutely fascinating video, beautifully told. Personally, as much as our modern mind is wont to find monarchs compelling, one must not forget the danger, as brushed upon in this video, that such unbridled monarchs posed as they pursued their fantasies and power. I cannot help but imagine that Bavaria was better off--if nothing else, avoiding what might've been a horrific depression--for the sly deposition of its king

    "Ah Schloss Neuschwanstein"
    "Ohh this far back?"
    "Ah yea Ludwig"
    Really good video, I have to say.
    Even being German and oerhaps slightly more aware of this story that the average european or american viewer, there were a bunch of angles in the video that aren't as mainstream..
    Visually obviously a masterpiece as always as well..
