    I appreciate how humble you are in your teaching. When learning, we can be hard on ourselves when we aren't getting it fast. You normalizing the time it takes is super encouraging and I appreciate it. I've been playing for years and still constantly learning every day. Listening is everything.

    Daric, I've noticed that you have a great ear for those minor details. This is still very dope to me....revisiting this 2 years later!! Teddy

    One thing that has helped me tremendously is first finding the key of the song through listening. Once you can lock that in then most of the time everything will fall within that scale.

    I have been doing the same thing since shortly after I started the bass. As a bassist I'd always try to hear the bass in a song, almost isolating it in my head. It helps when learning new songs and I also feel that they help you study the ones you already know. After repeating those lines in my head I feel much more comfortable with my timing. It is a great tool even though it might sound very simple (and sometimes funny for other people in the room). The lines come much more naturally rather than relying on muscle memory.

    Thank you! My biggest weakness is my ear. Your illustration and articulation of the process and how intervals relate to it will definitely help me. Starting with Active Listening is key though.

    🤩Facts!!!
    I use to sing with a group of "Cats" that did this at rehearsals and to say, that I was amazed to say the least, that they would pick up a song or groove in a matter on seconds, minutes!!!
    Yet it is the same process as to learning a new song using my natural instrument...The human Voice!
    Great content! I am learning so much from you! You are just amazing!!!
    Many Blessings!!!🤩

    So this is my story about UA-cam which I think spoils the fun of finding the bass line on a new song. I started actively participating in band competitions and festivals in the late '90s. I don't know if UA-cam existed at that time or not. In that year progressive rock was booming, such as Dream theater. I've always been able to find a super fast bassline just by using a cassette player and replaying it with the rewind button at normal speed and after getting it the feeling of happiness is indescribable. But since getting to know youtube I'm now looking for a bass line on a new song by slowing down the speed of the video on youtube. Maybe I can still get it at normal speed. But I've been spoiled that way. Even for easy songs, I use that method.

    4:20 Great musicians are born, I've been playing for 45yrs and have seen people catch and pass me in five years. I was a natural athlete and sports came very easy to me but playing bass has been work since day one and I've played hundreds of gigs. I understand that there are guys like you and then there are guys like me when it comes to playing the bass.

      We all have different gifts and talents, that shouldn't stop us pursuing something we are not t"the best" at. What I've learned is that I can't be great at absolutely everything that interests me, its taken me a long time to accept that and just enjoy an activity rather than pushing myself all the time, to beat yourself with a stick because your not as good as you wish you were is going to reduce your pleasure and probably make you quit.
      This has been my own personal observation/experience at least.

    • @theenergycenter3459
      @theenergycenter3459 2 роки тому +4

      @@dm4728 Absolutely true. I stopped playing bass in my 30s for like 8 years. But then a friend got me a Music Man bass and I picked it back up. I started watching YT videos and at first I was like, wow this 8 year old kid is light years ahead of me. lol But then I realized I also have a unique bass style. So I started practicing Larry Graham Bassline Hair and focused on that for like 6 months. Now I am practicing Donna Lee by Jaco. Im happy there are better players. I will appreciate them but as you said, we all have our own unique talents and gifts. Now I am learning again and picking up things much faster than I had previously. The next time I play, I improve and learn something new. 🎸
