So wait a minute. There were voice clips that were in the Japanese version of the game that didn't make it over to the US? That's weird... I only remember hearing the voices of the playable characters getting hit and that's it.

Yes they were removed for the other countries. This is actually the CPS2 version of the game which I think used a bit more sound effects. The CPS1 version of the game plays exactly the same the only difference between the CPS1 and CPS2 versions of the game are the soundtrack and voices.
