Canada at the moment is doing really good in the qualifiers, I’m really confident they will qualify to the World Cup. Alphonso Davies has been a dynamite for club and national squad.
@Ken Clarke funny enough, I have a Welsh friend who literally said the exact same thing. I know Davies is wonderful at LB, but he might have have a secret power as a forward.
During the barca vs Bayern(8-2) game, I was so annoyed because of Davies. He literally destroyed the whole Barca squad that match. And that assist from Davies to kimmich tho. Clearly one of the best LBs in the world
Took the ball away from Messi, brought down Vidal, took apart Semedo all the while left Pique and Busquets watching lol. Idk why so many Barca players including Messi were just watching him instead of pressing lmao.
This guy is changing Canadian perspective on football all together I’m Canadian and never seen something like this from our men’s team in my life proud of Davies through what he came from and proud to say he’s a fellow Canuck another hero amongst Canadian legends
Phonzie is charm of bayern munchen. He is amazing with the ball the way he dribbles and beats opponent with simple touches I think he can be world world class. What a player !
I’m Polish/Canadian currently living on Vancouver Island, BC, Canada. It is a true pleasure to watch “Phonzie’s” play and Robert Lewandowski pounding goal after goal into the net Lol... (Especially these 41 that drove Germans nuts Lol...)
Watched him make his debut for Vancouver Whitecaps in 2016, and watched him in every home game before he went to Bayern. He's just so good as he progresses with the team. I really enjoy watching him still, and hopefully he can continue to be the best player the country's seen yet Go On, Phonzie!
I love how reliable he is you can play him as full back. Left winger, he could even play as a number 9. Moreover this man is really humble and welling to learn
As a Canada Soccer (football) fan for so many years, it really makes me proud to finally see a world-class talent come out of a country where so many people play the sport. We've never had a player reach close to his caliber
Right, with Gretzky the dilemma for the opponents was always do you put extra men to cover him or do you play to cover everyone. If you used extra men to cover Gretzky then it opened up the other side, if you didn't then it opened up Gretzky, Same with Alphonso.
Show some respect to Sinclair. She is the top scorer in Womens football history and put the sport on the map in Canada. Without what she did for the womens game, the mens side wouldn’t have had a rise like this.
From the UK I’ve lived in Vancouver,Canada for 48 years and follow football ⚽️ at all times, mainly Premier League UK. Today is the first time I’ve heard of Alphonso Davies 🤷🏼♂️ promising talent who could be developed nicely by a club like Liverpool. Hey Klopp, you seeing this kid? Want some extra speed down the flank? 😊
But he did renounce his citizenship and became a British Citizen so he could play for the UK in international competition. He was from my city and grew up playing here in Calgary.
This Bayern team is insane. World class player in every position. Squad depth and players that can fill in at many different positions. This team is versatile and flexible. Bayern > PSG
I think it's great to have someone like him as right-back. Normally, players of his pace, speed and athleticy want to play further up front in a more attacking position. Any fast sprinting attacker with technical skills will not like playing against Davies. He's certainly one of the best three in his position in the world already
So proud of this guy! He’s not the first Canadian to play for Bayern. Remember Owen Hargreaves? Scored the first ever Bundesliga goal at Allianz Arena? Born and raised in Canada and had dual Citizenship with UK.
Great video (shame about the 'music). Thank you, Bundeliga. You've always been kind to Canadian players. Pity this was made just before the goal against Panama.
Let's be honest most of us knew about Alphonso Davies after the Chelsea game and we saw his potential after the Barcelona game, regardless he is a great player than can do better I think...
It was a pleasure to watch him for a few years on the Whitecaps. Disappointed he got traded overseas... but MLS' loss will be the world's gain. What many Canadians (and Americans) hate about football/soccer is the flailing, flopping, diving and players letting the ball go out of bounds instead of battling for possession. Hence why Canadians love hockey... and Davies, he doesn't trying to win an Oscar, he doesn't dive, he goes 100% each time he's on the field. Not only can Alphonso beat you with skills and his physical abilities, he will definitely out-compete you too.
What’s sad is that many Canadians don’t even know about him. I myself only found out about him when they invited him to an NHL hockey game in Edmonton for the ceremonial puck drop.
It's a bit sad that he is more famous outside of Canada than within. Hopefully our football culture will only grow with stars like him playing at the WC for Canada
His speed is obvious, but his delivery (cutbacks or crosses) into the box is already at an elite level. Otherwise he wouldn't be starting for Bayern if he was wasteful with it.
@@aj111here Davies is an incredible passer with a soft subtle touch....and he can dribble and fake way better than Lahm ever could...and he is really really fast. ha ha...
Although his speed it’s his way to forward he leaves a gap left in behind him and his opponents can take advantage of that. He needs to improve his defensive ability too.
Davies is not the first "Canadian to wear the Bayern shirt" as the commentator suggests. Owen Hargreaves is from Calgary. He simply elected to play for England as an adult because his parenrs were from the U.K.. That doesn't make Hargreaves any less Canadian than Davies. Canada was terrible at soccer when Hargreaves was a player. He choose to play for England as Canada had no chance of qualifying for the World Cup. Today, things are different and Canada is a team on the rise with players like Davies, David, Buchanan and Larin. The world will take notice. In three years time, Canada will be ranked in the top 20 in FIFA's rankings.
Being a Canada fan I find that both crazy talk and completely possible. We are in for an amazing ride. This team is legit. Davies is focal point but there has been improvement all over the pitch.
Owen Hargreaves rejected a Canada team that came off of winning a gold cup. Davies joined a Canada team that was ranked 120. He could’ve chosen World Cup regulars like Ghana or his home country of Liberia, but he chose Canada. To me that makes him more Canadian than Hargreaves.
I don't follow your argument. From a legal perspective, you're Canadian by citizenship. Hargreaves was born in Calgary and he holds Canadian citizenship. He grew up in Canada and moved to Germany to play for Bayern at age 16. He didn't relinguish his Canadian citizenship. Davies was born in Liberia and was granted Canadian citizenship at age 16. Both are Canadian citizens. Canada is a country of immigrants. Hargreaves chose England and was overlooked for youth national teams. Davies chose Canada. To each his own. However, from a purely legal and factual perspective Hargreaves is the first Canadian citizen to play for FC Bayern. He merely chose not to represent the Canadian men's national team similar to Jonathan De Guzman.
I know he never represented Canada, but wouldn’t Owen Hargreaves be the first Canadian to play for Bayern? He was born in Calgary and lived there until he was 16 before leaving for Germany
Owen Hargraeves was the first Canadian to play for Bayern. The Bundesliga should know this. However, Owen decided to play for England instead of Canada at the national level.
as a Canadian it's hard to believe that we have a properly world-class men's player; it feels like he's way more famous outside of Canada than within.

No wait the Lewy assist vs Barca after flooring Semedo
He assisted kimmich against barca 😉
Love how bayern players celebrate.. Celebrating with assist provider ♥️before goal scorer
