As somebody who has beaten DQ3 on the SNES, GBC and Switch, personalities are far less important than class and gear. Sage and Hero are the best classes in the game.
Thank you everyone for the correction that Vamp was available on both body types, I was gfoing off of the original versions and didn't realise that had changed for this one! I'd only recently swapped my party to all masc, so had no idea!
Just whenever they acquire the spells/skills you want since they all transfer. So like if you wanted to swap a Pilgrim to Warrior (Paladin), do it at level 34 (Multiheal) or 38 (Revive). If you were wanting to swap a Mage to a Sage, I'd just do it after you have a decent sized MP pool since the Sage learns all of the Mage spells anyway.
UNLIKE the other versions the LAST MOVES that aren't spells are learnt at EVEN high levels the crappy Gadabout class while YOU COULD turn it into a SAGE immediately at lv 20 IT only learns its FINAL special skill AT lv 45. Warrior/Martial Artist get their final move AT lv 48. .
It depends; all classes can swap at level 20 but to get the most out of your characters, for mages you want to wait up until you get at least Bikill/Oomph which doubles a members Atk by double which is a necessity for boss fights but you can wait even longer if you want Bounce or simply more MP because all your stats including HP/MP gets cut in half if you go Mage to Warrior which is a common swap. Cleric you can wait until Zing, FullHeal, or Insulate (which I recommend because it lowers breathe damage). Past versions you would either change your casters to Warrior for the high HP survivability or Fighter for speed casting since they're the fastest class to play but it would be more recommended if the caster was female because Fighters while fast and strong have 0 to none armor but female fighter can still wear dresses and theres a magic dress that reduces enemy spells by 33%. I don't know how much they changed because I got Woosh on my Cleric early around level 4 to 5 but previous titles it was level 12 and a useless skill because damage was weak.
Once you change class and retain half the stats from the previous class, are those stats permanently on that character? Or are there diminishing returns with each class change? I mean, do all your stats halve each class change? Or do you retain 50% of your cumulative stats from all jobs levelled? Seeing as jobs reset to lvl1 regardless of if you levelled a job prior, can you potentially max all stats by levelling jobs repeatedly? Or does each job only yield so much XP potentially? Really sorry if this isn't making any sense, but I'd appreciate anyone's input.
I’m a little lost as to whether the personality changes affect level stat gains retroactively? What about personality changes from equipped items? Do you lose anything when you unequip?
You can, sort of. When you make a party member, you get use up to 5 stat-building seeds to augment their stats. The seeds you give them will also determine their personality. If you don't like what you got, just hit the Back button and re-distribute the seeds until you get something that works. As long as you don't finalize the character, you can re-roll as many times as you need.
1:57 Not sure this is accurate considering in the Pax video from a few months back they showed a Male Mage with the "A" Body type who had the "Vamp" personality.
So, personalities weren't in the original versions of Dragon Quest III, but was added in the Super Famicom version. There are also different stats compared to the older versions of the game, and it seems that gender/body type restrictions on personalities are also out, so I'm not sure if the old chart is applicable.
I’ve played it three times and still didn’t remember all of this! I need a video on classes and party combinations too. It’s always hard to choose only 3 party members, and there are even more classes now! And I like to plan their second classes from the beginning too.
A good baseline is always include a Priest and Mage, and then a melee/support character... Warrior, martial artist, thief, monster wrangler (a very good support character, with access to non magical healing abilities)
I literally don't want to know about what the personalities do stat wise because i'm trying roleplay (like I did back in the day with old rpgs) and just attach the personality as .. just that. How they act ..heh. I mean i'll still listen and find out what they do but having them in this game reminds me how I want them in other modern rpgs
@@CarlosRodelaI’m not sure they affect anything except stats sadly! I got scatterbrained and was like “on point…” But I forgot it means crummy stat growth!
The first time I played as a kid on my friend’s Gameboy Color version my party had a jester and bad personalities. That version had collectible monster medal things that I don’t remember seeing on the Switch version. Ahh I remember clear as day my vain warrior was the only character that wasn’t a complete embarrassment, I was like 9 years old and didn’t even know what vain meant.
I can confirm that personalities don't seem to be locked to gender in the HD remake. I've been getting lucky devil while trying to get vamp on a female character.
Gotta grind to Lv99 then change jobs to get the best out of starting stats. Back in the old days, I would at least grind my characters to LV 60+ before changing jobs. If course that was to make the perfect party characters. Always starts with Gadabouts then change them to Sages and start grinding. if changing multiple times at LV 20, the starting stats will become horrible. Minimum LV 40 to change jobs was the advice standard back in old times. Now that I am a middle aged family man, time is no longer my own. Waiting for DQ nerds to explore ways to get the best start stats upon changing jobs in this new remake.
Im getting super aggravated with these personalities. Does anyone know how to get tough cookie with thief male? There is absolutely no guide for this at all
The fact that we're afraid to say "Man" or "Woman" anymore is just crazy to me. Sorry, i know it's a bit off topic, but this video just made that jump in my face. Personality reserved for "Body type"... how is that any better than a personality reserved for a "Gender"? Anyway... Thanks for the video, that's a very interesting system actually, to have to mix and match jobs with personalities... wasn't sold on the game yet, but that sounds fun.
People might not want their characters to identify with their assigned gender, or any gender. Why lock it to gender? Gender and biological sex are two different things. Easy solution is to forget about gender and just choose a body type instead. Each body type has four subtypes too which is pretty fun.
Tbh this game is kinda not working for me so far, and this personality shit is just discombobulating, like it changes with every seed you give your character I read a book to become a meathead and have my physical rose faster then 2 minutes later I’m look at the status and it says I’m a happy camper. So far the best part of this game is looking in pots…
It's really not. Barely even noticeable. It doesn't push an agenda in your face like dragon age. Literally the only thing that could be considered "woke" is body type instead of male and female. A few of character designs were changed too but not many and like I said it isn't even noticeable. I am against wokeness, but this is reaching. You acting like it dragon age woke 😂

all the personalities are changed because agility is now split into, resilience and agility. so six stats instead of 5.
Great to see your still making videos! I used to watch all your final fantasy tcg videos when I played!
Im curious to know when the right time is to have your characters swap jobs? I know some jobs have some good abilities they learn past level 20.
Just whenever they acquire the spells/skills you want since they all transfer. So like if you wanted to swap a Pilgrim to Warrior (Paladin), do it at level 34 (Multiheal) or 38 (Revive).
