Hi, that was great to see. We are looking to get winter tyres too so that was great. I shouldn't speak too soon but I have NEVER had a blow out etc so never had to change a tyre. I will remember what you have just demonstrated because it looked easy. Thanks guys xxx
Glad it was helpful, it isn't too hard really. Flat and safe ground is important too remember, of course. Hopefully you won't need to do it in a hurry / at the roadside at any point. We keep a couple of cheap hi-viz vests under the drivers seat just in case too.
Another good video, whilst we have winter tyres on our current car, have opted for all seasons on the VW we have on order as I really can’t be bothered with the hassle of changing them over and storing them.
Good choice. We ordered them on our T6.1 and the factory just didn't fit them and sent the van without. When pressed, they said it was WLTP emissions related so couldn't be registered with them, and we ended up with a refund of the option cost. We had 4season tyres on our T6 and they worked well in most conditions.
@@CampervanTime that’s frustrating when they didn’t arrive. I’ve used winter tyres for many years now (hobby is landscape photography!) and all seasons have really improved a lot now so will cover most instances. Will get a set of snow chains or similar for extreme conditions.
Excellent. Might be worth double checking with the dealer if they have any problems/known issues with all season tyre supply from the factory (or get them to ask!). Is it a 4motion you have on order?
@@CampervanTime it’s a LWB conversion we are getting but not 4Motion. I’ll check with the converter once they start the works to see if the all season tyres have been provided.
@@Circa35mm I'm sure you'll be fine in that case. I think the issue was California specific and due to weight as well as rolling resistance increases etc.
Great clear video as always. You have all the kit ! But would Sarah buy you the rubber pad with slot in it to get your trolley jack onto the jacking point. Loads on EBay
Hi Do you think the California Oceans require a Habitation check ? I know camper van conversion do …I did ask VW dealer in Aberdeen and was told they don’t because they are all factory fitted. Thanks for great video again.
That is a good question and something that doesn't get asked or talked about very much, if at all. We haven't had any form of habitation check done on our old T6 and don't really intend to on our new one. I would probably suggest common sense is key here. I'm pretty confident in checking things like cupboard latches etc, but gas piping - no! So, maybe in a 3 or 4 years of use a gas inspection would be a good idea perhaps? I know the factory gas certification has a specific life span (the sticker on the tailgate), but I can't remember how long it is for.
We deliberately didn't order the more advanced TPMS system on our new T6.1. There are two types - the type which works off the ABS sensors and monitors rolling wheel speed differences (the standard one) and then there is the paid-for option that has the TPMS sensors in each wheel giving constant pressure readings on each wheel. Obviously if you have the latter type you'd need to get a second set of monitoring valves and have those fitted to the steel wheels for it to work correctly.
Sure - the wheels are: 7J5601027 - then you need the centre cap, part number: 7H0601151B. This is just the wheel, then obviously you need tyres etc. We picked our set up second hand, they needed some rubbing down and painting, which I did myself. I don't think VW do these from the factory in black as all of the ones I have seen new are silver.
Sure - here you go. Sure - the wheels are: 7J5601027 - then you need the centre cap, part number: 7H0601151B. The wheels only come in silver as standard, so you'd need to spray/powder coat them as needed if you wanted in black. Thanks
Not sure, I'll have to check. I know in our old T6 there was that option too, so I suspect there might be on the 6.1 also. Not quite sure what it actually does though? The tyre size on these winters is exactly the same as the tyres that were on it before..
Great video, what’s the load and speed rating of the Dunlops? I’m about to buy winter tyres. The summer tyres that came with the van, ( 4 motion 204 Ocean) are Continental VanContact ECO 215/60 R17C 109/107T. I’m struggling to find the same load rating?
Can't remember off the top of my head, will need to have a look. We bought the wheels and tyres from a fellow Cali owner who used them over the winter in the Peak District. Have just had a quick look online and there are plenty of winter tyre options for 109/107 (mostly H rated).
@@CampervanTime Thanks for taking the time out - I’d be interested to know what’s the exact spec of the Dunlops are. We have used Dunlop SP Sport Winter on our Audi Allroads over the years for multiple trips to the Alpes and they have been simply amazing in the snow ( And general wet/ dry cold conditions) so hence the interest in fitting to the Cali. Interesting that the Conti’s that came with the van are rated T and the Winter tyres H.
Hi - right, sorry about the delay, have finally got back out there to check. These are 104/102H rated, so 104 load rating. That is 900kg per tyre, so 3600kg in total. The van has a max weight of 3100kg so will be fine. Hope this helps 👍
@@CampervanTime Thanks Will. Much appreciated you taking the time out - Still finding it difficult to source the Dunlop SP Winter Sports - another option is the Continental van Contact winter ( got the summer ones on atm) I’ll get onto it again next week - Thanks once again - We’ve picked up so many steers from you guys👍👍

The wheels actually look good 👍
Thanks! Yes, we were quite pleased with the look too.
Never noticed the bald patch till you said Sarah, however-did notice your footwear😂 Thanks for a clear , concise video as always👍

Where did you get those center cap from, can't get them in Denmark.

Shame when your order the 18s (Sports pack) you don’t get a spare wheel & jack etc
I didn’t realise you don’t even get a jack!! That’s terrible! Mind you, it doesn’t feel the safest…
I'll be in the same situation when our Ocean arrives, is there a recommendation for a suitable bottle jack..?
On my t5 when you run winter tyres, there’s a setting in dash menu to alter, is this the same on t6.1?

30 yr old jack
Not a great design and quite flimsy really considering the weight in the van it is trying to lift. Still, ok for emergency use I suppose.
