There is a reason the name of the movie is animal, it is a fictional story of a cruel man. A lot of sane people like villains, people love action movie with loads of bloodshed doesn't mean they commit crimes in real life. Nobody should be judged for liking something, you can ask their reasons and justification for liking the thing but passing judgement does you no good.

Cinema itself is a art. So, i believe it is not appropriate to call just one genre of cinema art.... There is art and commerce in every movie made.
Don't go literally by those words. Most movies are formulaic and deal specific themes in the most caricaturish, stereotypical ways. An art film usually is much rawer and truer to emotions. Like I'd dare anyone to call Ship Of Theseus as anything but an art film. There's a world of difference between these two worlds of cinema undeniably. In making. In feeling. In reception. These are almost entirely different industries one can say. While there's definitely an art in everything and commerce in everything, when super formulaic art becomes less of an art and more of a job. You don't get a deeply tailored performance but a commercial, mass produced and common performance. That's the meaning behind those words.
The thing is, most people don't agree that cinema is art, that its only made for commercial entertainment and evaluates artistic films based on it.

Me as a vfx artist/Game developer, i'm completely scared with the release of Sora A.I. With google laying off 12,000 employees, openly stating that their work can be done via A.I, I'm just scared even more. Artists like us are totally at the mercy of the film studio's choice and decision. Up until now, A.I needs to learn from existing artstyles to replicate and generate new content. Once people get bored of the existing artstyles, the studios will need artists like us to come up with new artstyles for a refreshing look, which will later be again used in the learning models and our career will dip down again in a graph. We are struggling to coexist with A.I. Though A.I need not be a threat, we are completely at the mercy of the studios. I cannot imagine the hours and years of my hard work and efforts in developing a skill with excessive amount of sleepless nights, spoiling my health, be taken away by A.I. Still, we don't have a choice. If there are no proper regulations for it, we artists as a community will soon cease to exist.

I get that AI could help in bringing the art out of the voices that we lost. But is it really needed in music? Lets say a singer has died this year and 20 years later you still hear the singer's voice in a completely new composition/song, would that really make sense? That would be overwhelming atleast for me and I think its kinda disrespect to the artist's earlier works that was made when he/she was alive.

Fighter is a legitimate flop coz of its huge budget….350cr is the worldwide figure and there are many stakeholders there…. 350cr was a figure an AAMIR or SALMAN film did just in INDIA pre-pandemic apart from huge numbers overseas…..If a film becomes profitable just by scrambling on ott n digital then almost every film becomes a “hit”….. both FIGHTER and DUNKI are huge films made by blockbuster directors which did underwhelming numbers by any yardstick.
I wanted to watch it, many wanted to buy all were busy, by the time we went to see it, it was out of the theaters.

There's one thing to notice though. The movies, music, books everything is getting simpler and simpler. Simple in the sense not the idea - but the total content within.
There was a time where songs, whether it be movie music or albums, where longer and complex - even movies - when I watched movies like Enthiran back in 2010s, I thought the whole movie industry is gonna be making these massive movies in 10 years.
But in 2024, we are still making the same movies - except that the budget got increased and so as the revenue generated. Screenplay became more and more template-based. Not every movies though.
We should must understand this, Art is subjective
I watched Malaikkotte Vaaliban today in Hotstar. I liked the film a lot. I really don't know what these people see in it to hate it with pasion. Yes the narrative is unique and is comes out as slow sometimes. But in no way it is a bad film...

Rahman isnt only updated and keep pushing boundaries in indian and international music, but he also uses even veteran singers in commercial cinema whom are rarely used nowadays by many MDs. How many more of Hariharan, Shankar Mahadevan, K.S. Chitra, Srinivas, etc songs are we gonna get? Heck even singers like tippu, haricharan, karthik, rahul nambiar, adk, shreya goshal, chinmayi arent used nowadays. ARR knows which song suits the artist best and the best part of ARR is that even the most veteran singer could explore an entirely new genre with their vocals even if they sing in this era. Most prominent example is Deva for Maamannan and Lal Salaam. Commercial music is already a normal thing for ARR, so even the abuse and hatred he receives for those songs, he knows that and he doesnt mind, ithu aavaru interview-leh sollirukaru.......

Today we have 2 audiences. Theatre and OTT. Both need different approaches. Most art house movies are good to watch in OTT because we can pause and play or even skip. But we need to bear that in Theatres.
Visaranai was a hit in theatres. YOU CAN MAKE A CONTENT DRIVEN MOVIE APPEALING TO THE MASSES. PK, Dangal, Visaranai are the examples.
But many art clowns fail to do that and blame audiences.

I feel like calling audiences “unsophisticated”/“dumb” is elitism. Films like “Saltburn” are being slammed as “pretentious”.
They don’t make films for free. They’re very much making it for business. Then why call your potential customers “dumb”. We the audiences are the patrons of the art form that is cinema. Any art can thrive only when you have patrons.
An excellent example of art & commerce working well is the original Nickelodeon animated series ATLA. Many serious “adult” topics were shown in the series. They never utter the word “g3nocide” even once in the show. It was implied. It was on air on a kids network channel. It became insanely popular globally & enjoyed by adults who could appreciate its themes better. It now got a live action adaptation by Netflix.
There is a reason indian movies suck ....the fact that many of our movies despite being problematic make money is something to think of..raunaq is just pandering

Using of AI in music needs to be debated. And right now we are not at a stage to judge what's right or wrong. It's right in so many ways but at the same time it's wrong since it poses a threat to upcoming talent. This needs to be debated on a greater scale and I think we are still at early stages to decide on whether it's right or wrong.

there should be no distinction between art films or commercial films. a movie is a movie, cinema is cinema, art or commercial. our filmmakers need to grow up and realize that it's not the audience that is dumb, but it's these production houses and filmmakers who have been feeding us all this dumb content for decades now and making the audience dumber as a result. dumb content was commercialized and is still being commercialized.
us, as an audience, need to take a stance now and support good cinema, commercial or not. there are a lot of good movies being made in india and as an audience we should support such movies so that those creators can be motivated to continue making movies of that calibre.
