Undoubtedly the film's highlight was a sterling performance by Sarojadevi as Rani Chennamma, which is remembered even to this day. Sarojadevi gave a brilliant potrayal of the queen of Kittur going through different phases- as a young girl, the devout wife, the caring foster mother, the queen and the valiant warrior who stands up single- handedly against the might of the British empire.
Kittur Chennamma was a huge commercial success and brought a lot of accolades for Panthulu and Saroja Devi. It won the national award- President's medal. One person who was particularly very impressed with the film and Saroja Devi's performance was
