why is the stabilization off on the Hero 5 for more than have the video? i know the internal stabilization is much improved on the Hero 6 but this comparison is apples to oranges unless the Hero 5 has it's stabilization on at the same time the Hero 6 has it on. especially while on the tray or pole.

I was thinking to buy a gimbal for my Hero 3+ but after seeing this video I’m considering to drop the gimbal idea and upgrade to Hero 6... Great video man !
hbstudio14 the GoPro 5 was mounted on a gimbal on the tray, and the GoPro 6 just on the tray. Both were on the tray to have the same shake and handling. Again he just wanted to highlight the amazing stabilzation of the 6 vs the 5 w/gimbal. Clearly the gimbal was powered on during the testing.

hero 6 is on my list now since i shoot mountain bike videos and if you are a mountain biker you know it's all about hero 4 and wearable gimbals. hero 6 is closely as stable as a gimbal?? definitely on my to buy list for this Christmas

I did a comparison video of the 5 vs the 6 and im amazed how much better the 6 is not just for its stabilization but also its colours and picture quality. Gopro really have stepped up the game. Which they needed to do as to me the Hero 5 was not their greatest release.

Love the review. I got the hero 5 couple weeks ago and the karma gimble...not knowing of the 6 coming out. Exchanged the 5 for 6 and saw how improved stabilization is and returned the karma grip next day. So amazing mounted on a chesty mountain biking

I notice the GPH6 had reduced the glare from the sun in the water compared to the GPH5. The GPH6 has better light with better color, it catches more detail and you can really notice the stabilization when he runs, it doesn't shake as much. I can't wait to get mine!!

I wish that I had not got the Hero5 now... but I didn't know how quickly the Hero6 was going to come out. I got the Hero5 because as I get older (57) my hand starts to shake... so I need the stabilization. The Hero6 is indeed MUCH better. Given how fast they come out with new cameras... I'll wait for the next version.

Wow. I used the 5 before but seems its stabilization is only good on 1440 or 1080 with high fps, not with 2.7K or 4K. My bf just gave me the 6 but I didn't test to take video to see the stabilization quatlity yet. I am so impressed with the 6. I can truly see the image color quality and the sharpness taking by the 6 is much more amazing than the 5.
P.S. - I can't believe you are still in summer mode there ! .... and swimming ? wow ! ... where I live... it's cold.... going down to only plus 4 tonight ! ... yup almost freezing ! Great video ! thank you !
Incredible. Sound on the Hero6 is kind of muffled compared to Hero5, and I also heard some kind of high pitched whine during the running sequences - maybe stabilisation mechanism?
Hero5 stabilization on vs Hero6 stabilization on would have been a much more fair comparison. People are looking to see how much better the 6 is than the 5. I look forward to that comparison.
The Hero6 stabilization is fantastic in general but I do see it break down a bit when the camera is purposely panned or rolled beyond the limits of the stabilization window. It can be a little abrupt. I look forward to your helmet test. One of the things most annoying about all previous Heros is when you simply have it helmet mounted and are walking normally. At every footfall the footage shakes. The Hero6 stabilization seems to almost take care of this.
The lion share of these tests were with the Hero5 EIS off vs Hero6 EIS on. That’s comparing apples to oranges. Then there were tests of the Hero5/no gimbal/EIS off vs Hero6/gimbal mounted/EIS on. That’s not even in the same universe to compare. I think the most logical comparison would be - both cameras hard mounted, both cameras EIS on, and side by side video comparing the two. There seemed to be very little direct comparisons of the EIS features which makes it very hard to decide which one looks better.
I'm not sure why this and many other videos see it relevant to show Hero 5 with image stabilization off and Hero 6 with stabilization on. If the Hero 6 is better, wouldn't it make sense to show both with stabilization on? You are basically escaping the realm of comparison when one of the cameras has a different setting. Aside from the FPS limitations of the older model. Am I missing something here?

yeah, it's called "marketing". Most of the people will see shaky 5 and smooth 6 and run to the store to buy 6.
You can also stabilize it later in software, which is the same as what's going on in the 6.
