Plunger Pump / Hand Pump Working

Plunger Pumps are of small size and useful for comparatively shallow pumping. Operation of these pumps are simple ,and the most popular example is hand-pumps, which are commonly used in India to fetch watér from shallow depths. These pumps are operated manually.
In this, as the plunger is lifted by the driving mechanism, void is created below it, which is filled by water. On lowering the plunger, the water is checked from back by the bottom check valve, and gets to the top of the plunger through another check valve. The process continues till water is discharged from the outlet of the pump. These pumps may operate against lifts of as much as265 metres heads with an output of upto 1500 litres per minute.
