  • One of the divisions of the Office of Historic Preservation is ScoutSA, our designation and survey team. They are working hard in their various facets to tell the story of the Bellinger family. This is part of our department’s work to preserve San Antonio’s African American heritage.
    ScoutSA Staff:
Jenny Hay, PhD, is the ScoutSA Manager
Charles Gentry, PhD, Historic Preservation Specialist
Gloria Colom Braña, PhD, Cultural Historian
Amy Fulkerson, Senior Historic Preservation Specialist
This effort to tell the Bellinger history stems from ScoutSA's work to develop an African American Cultural Context Statement.
    The project will identify:
    🏛️ Significant Places
    📆 Events
    👩🏾‍👨🏾‍👧🏾‍👦🏾 People
Context statements help make decisions about preserving cultural heritage. This work can result in historic designations, historic markers, street naming, exhibitions, and heritage trails such as Civil Rights Trails.
OHP is working with an advisory group of leaders and citizens from the African American Community to guide us on this incredible journey.
