The beta Billy sounds cooler The 1.0 Billy sounds goofier Both fit him, considering that he's really cool, but also a lovable goofball But, considering that he's also an energetic, bouncy cartoon character, the more goofy voice fits a bit better
and there are parts where the new Billy VA switches tones depending on the narrative. it gives him more character depth rather than being a one-note personality which that did cement his role perfectly.
Giving credit where it’s due, the original VA did a great job and you can tell he enjoyed it and did his best, but I think the newer voice actor fits Billy’s personality more, the higher pitch, the louder, more energetic voice, it fits his overexaggerated, bouncy and cartoony animation and his more energetic and sort of cartoonish personality more than the old VA’s deeper, quieter voice. And the tones that the newer VA did for Billy fit the animations more
The new VA give me more “Deadpool” vibe Billy. I kinda love that energetic and goofy voice, the new VA did a great job. However, the original Billy voice sounds pretty cool during some serious fighting scenes, I like that, too.
To add to this, he can also do the cool voice. His delivery of lines in Billy's character event in the hollow is superb and very nuanced, like Billy is definitely hiding something but still keeps his goofiness so that he doesnt arouse suspicion (as far as i can remember)
The older Billy voice fits the fact he is an android better - honestly I respect that take - The newer Billy matches his goofy personality better - I enjoy this take on Billy's voice in my opinion at least it make me enjoy his character even more - I never played the beta so I didn't know his voice was changed to the one he has now so I found the video to be quite interesting
I knew he sounded different from when I played him in the beta. He was significantly higher pitched and goofier on release and I wasn’t sure if they simply had the VA redo the lines to fit Billy’s more bouncy personality or if they changed the VA entirely but this confirms it. Both are great and I missed the previous guy but understand why the new VA is the ultimate choice, Billy’s cheerfulness should be on full display❤️~
From what I found, the VA was changed between the beta and release. In the beta and pre-release content Billy was voiced by Michael Schwalbe, who also served as the English voice director. Release!Billy is voiced by Clifford Chapin, who's best known as the English dub voice for Bakugo in My Hero Academia.
I really like the way the Original VA starts sounding almost... cool? during the Big Guy scene at 4:40 I think both did a great job but the new one does fit the overall energy a bit better. Hope the original guy maybe gets to voice another character though
After the Outer Ring story quest, it's like his old VA must've been him in the past, which suits him more. But since we're in the present, the new VA definitely rocks more
I don't know why they changed his VA but 1.0's higher pitched voice is closer to (very close actually) his CN voice which might be the reason for the change. Maybe they're trying to uniform character vibes across the different dubs? Because they definitely had a problem with characters feeling like totally different people when switching between dubs in previous games. Edit: or it might be the studio handling the EN dub that wants to keep the character voices in line with their CN counterparts because I think the JP dub just does whatever it wants
I think that was the case. Before the release of Honkai: Star Rail, March 7th was not voiced by Skyler Davenport. She was originally voiced by Andi Gibson. MiHoYo ended up hiring Davenport to voice March after player feedback noted that Gibson sounded too high pitched for the character. Gibson felt disappointed at first when she was replaced but was understanding towards the change. It’s likely that miHoYo felt that Michael Schwalbe did not fit Billy’s personality after the CBTs and thus hired Clifford Chapin to replace Schwalbe, thinking it would fit better.
The new Billy’s VA is the same as Bakugo from MHA which does give me some preference bias. But the old was still just as amazing. I loved him just as much.
Damn it. Every damn time I contemplate making an ad to possibly get me into the voice acting business I see this. Like jeez I know the longer it takes for me to get an ad out there the longer it takes before VA is possible but seeing people so much better me is kind of a downer.
Am I hearing things or does it sound like some of the lines for other characters were re-recorded/changed too?? Can’t tell if my brain is making it up but it feels.. Slightly different-
how do i put this… beta billy sounds like a fit for an actual star light knight if there ever was one that was real and living in the canon of the game, but the new billy fits the character way better being the goofy fan of starlight knights
I think both are genuinely good. Though, people who say "this matches the character" are missing the point that it's the VA who BRINGS the character. The character can be whatever the performance needs it to be. That's kind of the WHOLE POINT of acting.
Honestly? Didn't even know he had a different VA before, and tbh I kinda like this one, maybe even a tad more than what we have I mean, yeah, the new one fits better in terms of "energetic panicking fun guy" or whatever, but having a deeper voice for this role actually feels like a more subtle idea. I mean, here's the thing: Billy, despite everything, is still a badass gunslinger, and very rarely, he does act that way, and for those moments that voice fits very well. And for when he's acting silly - it creates this dissonance between the voice and the tone he has to take, sort of like "I was made to kick butt but that's not really all I am". Hope this makes sense.
I think it just make sense for him to sound goofier given it's pretty much implied that he does his antics to move on from his old self who is pretty much implied to have been extremely feared so he toned himself down a lot but he still can be ruthless, I mean the caliber of his guns alone makes recoil impossible for a human but since he's an android he's much stronger which is why he can fires his guns at all and that the speed he does it, anyone else wouldn't be anywhere near accurate nor being able to keep their balance just firing one, and his rounds have explosive tips and he has no problem shooting his guns at all, and still at the end of the day works as what is basically a mercenary, hells he even is willing to sell the siblings to the police so the Cunning Hares can be saved and get away with everything, and in one of his trust events, he outright threatens thugs with death if they don't shut up about him, and they all ran away from him like hell the moment they realised who he was, yet he still kept up his act and even overplayed it more, so I feel he really does it more on purpose, and because he's having fun with it. Pretty sure that when Caesar will show up we'll get more of his backstory and point of view, but for now he'll keep his secrets under his clown act and we'll keep loving him for it.
@@Karomix3wait i fw that too. the goofy and friendly tone kinda drives you into a false sense of comfort so any hint at his actual past is more surprising. they both work ig
Who was the beta voice tho? The difference is the expression and tone in his voice and he did a great job for Billy too, but too monotone in most cases and doesn’t really have much emotion as the current va does
I kinda like his older version better. The dialogue may have been goofy when reading it but he still kept it somewhat serious in tone, kinda like hes legit frustrated about something even if the line is silly. While the new one is just Chinese knockoff Deadpool in a bad way. Reminds me too much of Ultimate Spider-Man Deadpool, the show specifically, where he was just hyper emotive because thats what his character was changed too for a time. If anything old Billy is like old Deadpool so a Chinese Knockoff in a good way. While the new Billy is the new Deadpool who would probably say "Prickly Banana Pineapple Bus!" just to be cooky. Plus it might just be me, but I find it funnier when the character sounds serious about what they can do to an enemy, just to get a near death after dramatically gloating naturally. If the character has to be forced to sound goofy, then it doesn't work for me.
Definitely V 1.0, he sounds much more energetic which matches is character
Exactly
Agreed
Thats Clifford Chapin for ya
v1 have more deadpool vibe where release is more of spiderman
That's the new voice actor
The beta Billy sounds cooler
The 1.0 Billy sounds goofier

I agree 😂
I always felt like the disconnect between how the voice sounds and what's actually being said was one of his charm points.
The voice cracks are crucial!
Honestly both VAs did a phenomenal job.

Old voice: shows Billy's age
New voice: shows Billy's youthful personality
The new VA give me more “Deadpool” vibe Billy.

Both are good Billy voices.
6:35 it's the little details that I like, such as how they synced Billy's line to his *kick.* The overall delivery of his lines is also excellent.
I think you can hear the biggest difference in the "Big Guy" cutscenes
Ah yes... THEY are amazing as always.
I know this is a video focusing on Billy’s differences from Beta and launch but boy do I gotta say that I enjoy the newer Fairy performance as well
I think the deeper voice sounds closer in pitch to the JP VA
The new va is less muffled and less monotone then the old
Clifford Chapin made Billy sound more energetic and happy go lucky
What sells the 1.0 voice for me: the little voice crack at 1:10
Honestly, the voice crack actually went hard tho
They both did a good job 👏 I like the new one, but the old VA did fantastic ❤❤
7:47 cerberus just chilling over there
I like the Beta design of Billy better, but the voice of V 1.0 is better it matches his character
He sounds more.. 💅
Feels like dead pool had an influence
I love the V1.0!!!💕 It sounds more energetic and matches his personality perfectly... I adore him!!!💖💕✨
I've gotten used to the V 1.0 voice now, both VAs are awesome and did a fantastic performance
After the Outer Ring story quest, it's like his old VA must've been him in the past, which suits him more. But since we're in the present, the new VA definitely rocks more
Billy is a new favorite.
The old VA is too deep and not "Billy" enough to fit him. The new VA is much better.

it seems that fairy's voice also changed
the 1.0 fits billy the best, im glad its what we got
Honestly both are amazing
The new voice is the same as Katsuki Bakugo
I knew I recognised that voice!
Beta sounds like a regular robot, V 1.0 sounds like Kai from Ninjago using Little Bumblebee voice
1.0 VA is Clifford Chapin

I like V1.0 way better, a very nice change made by Mihoyo!
Uh, I think you missed the strongbox scene
Billy is so fruity 😊
new gives deadpool vibes
Question is this cbt2 or cbt3? Because I remember Billy's voice being more energetic (kinda like the current one), but I only played cbt3

he reminds me of claptrap of borderlands
Anyone know the name of both VAs?
Michael Schwalbe was his first voice actor in the beta, and then he got replaced by Clifford Chapin in the current game.
Is it just me or does Billy in 1.0 sound a bit like Deadpool's inner voice in the Deadpool game?
Is it truth that nicole got nerfed?
let Ryan Reynolds voice Billy
I thought this was just a gooner game wth is this story mode ahh fight 1:03
I have hardly any idea what this is, but it was kinda surprising to see that grey-haired guy become a girl in the 1.0 version lol
You can pick between the siblings, white hair is Wise and the blue is Belle. The game is ZZZ.

Apart from the topic of who is better, why did they change the VA?
Do you know why or they haven’t said anything about it?
Has anyone noticed that soukakus voice change to a lower tone?❓❔
There not that big difference to anything 🤨😐

The current va for fairy is Allegra Clark. She voices beidou from genshin, Acheron from Honkai star rail, and bloodhound from apex legends.
