Pretty much. There's already amazing music before this song shows up, but that stuff plays during the intro, when you're still just being introduced to the game so you can't really focus on and appreciate the music itself. City ruins is definitely the first song where you just sit back and go "wow " and add 3 hours to your game time just running around
Yoko Taro, is the creator and writer for Nier and he is an amazing human being, just wanted to say that. All of his stories are about the beauty and ugliness of Humanity, that's all I'll say~
The soundtrack is phenomenal. I've always loved Okabe's work from Tekken, but his work on this game is otherworldly. I'm sure it's been mentioned before, but most of the songs in the game have some sort of different variation of it found in game that changes dynamically with the gameplay. I've played games throughout the entirety of my life, but very few have had the lasting impact that this one did. A completely unique experience that has a structure that can really only be told and experienced through a video game. I really hope you enjoy your time with the game and get to see it through to the very end.
"Etherial" I think is what you're looking for. This is a game best experienced by losing yourself in it. Don't try to ""beat" it. Try to enjoy it, if that makes sense.
I cannot even begin to describe what this song means to me, and just how often I come back to it (practically daily). Like so many of the other comments here, it sits very deep within my heart. So glad to see you cover this. Also, that reaction you had when that first chord hit? I think that's the face of most everyone when they first hear it. It's just haunting.
big hug to you man just for being able to separate the arrangement and takes as well. Takes a lot of sacrifice and time to do that. First time hearing of you. Got a sub here 👋💪
OMG! I almost cried at the start of this soundtrack. When I beat the game, I remember saving in the Flooded City and often coming back to the game just to listen to this soundtrack. There always will be a special place in my heart for Nier Automata.
The most enthralling thing about the Nier games to me is the atmosphere; the setting, general tone, and music make for an incredible and unique experience.
" first playthrough" I hope people explained to you ,the game is not finish when you see the credit for the first time , it's only the first part You have to go all the way to ending E if you want to beat the game Don't retain your tears when you play , we all cried when we played the game the first time because it's full of emotion The game change my vision of the world and it will be with me all the way until my death Hope you enjoy the game like all of us
There’s a lot of songs in this soundtrack that I love, but I think for Nier Automata this is probably my favourite. It’s got that some feeling that always makes me wanna dive back into the game that Devola’s Song of the Ancients gives me for Nier Replicant.
I mean, I didn't know he also made Tekken soundtracks until I randomly saw his name credited in a Tekken song, and I've been playing since Tekken 2. The only track that you can kinda tell its similar to NieR is Azazel's theme from T6
City Ruins is one of my favorite tracks in NieR: Automata, but I do like a lot of the slower, more solemn songs :D Looking foward to you reconizing all the songs in the game then!
It’s unbelievable how you don’t understand a word of what she says but you completely understand and feel the song! One of the best gaming soundtracks of all time for sure! 👌
I think a good way to describe it is "unnatural tranquility". Despite the absolute bangers in the soundtrack, this is probably my favorite and the song I think of when I think of Nier: Automata.
I'll just say I was the pretty late to Neir Automata but I enjoyed the heck outta it. It was the Neir raid from FFXIV that got me to play it. I think I personally preferred Replicant of the two but Automata was still great in its own way. A truly special gaming experience is what it is. Yoko Taro has a great view of games as a story telling medium. Even if it can be a bit indirect in its form of story telling, it is regardless certainly appreciable. Beautiful even. It manages to encapsulate that feeling of wonder and mystery that is so very ephemeral in such media.
I don't understand anything in depth about music, at all. I can't read sheet music, I can't describe music theory. But nothing, EVER, will replace the sheer joy I feel when I watch other people geek out over the stupid little things I geek out over quietly too. I'm going right to your C, D, E ending clip shortly after this. Thank you for geeking out over this!
This is the first song that comes to mind when I think of NieR Automata. It's like a warm blanket for me.
A warm blanket of tears.
@@trevorveillette8415 very very salty tears
I’m pretty sure this is like THE “welcome to nier automata” song for anyone new to the game and its music

@@trevorveillette8415 lmao yup that's exactly what i did
My god, City Ruins. What a wonderful piece of VGM. One of the reasons why the NieR Automata OST has such a special place in my heart.
it never fails to bring me to tears.
is like a testament to humanity's past... in the Ruins of their Lost Civilization.
I'll be making an hour long video for NieR Automata in the next 2 weeks :)
2B high heels : *Tak tak tak tak tak *

Also very depressing
@@thewallsspeaktome3507 Not 100% Depressing, but yes.
@@thewallsspeaktome3507 can be but nihilism doesn't always mean it's depressing.
This is probably the track you hear the most in the game, but it's still my favorite
this song feels like a lullaby and also can be tragic. its so calming but sad in the game with what goes on
This is what you are fighting for: these feelings, these memories, the ruins of your heart.
Listening to this soundtrack as we see the evolution of the city ruins....like we start and finish in the same place, it gives so many chills

I absolutely love this song, I actually play it almost everyday in my office. It sounds so tranquil and peaceful and always manages to calm me down.
I would never of thought of putting the music to the area, but God its perfect

Ethereal*. My favorite word so I had to correct ya! But yeah Ethereal is the best way to explain this song and the OST 🖤
@@dreambiscuits Oof. I knew that too! I suppose that's what I get for posting right before I go to bed. XD
This song still gives me chills. I love this one so much
The wind effect I believe is a wind chime with a bow drawn across it. They used that technique a lot of GW2 Heart of Thorns Auric Basic soundtracks
I cannot even begin to describe what this song means to me, and just how often I come back to it (practically daily). Like so many of the other comments here, it sits very deep within my heart. So glad to see you cover this.

this song always makes me tear up
all the memories come rushing back all at once
almost like i never really left that world

It would have been better to discover them with the context actually. But still, big yes to you
J'nique Nicole, the singer, is so immensely talented. Among others, she also sang the English version of Weight of the World.
This is my favorite song from NieR. It relaxes me and I could listen to it on repeat and never tire of it
One of the most beautiful OST ever made.
It's in my personal top 3 with "MIGHT+U" (my hero academia) and "Arrival to earth" (Transformers : the movie)
This one grips my heart everytime I hear it... So many emotions.
This is my favorite ost in the game and it's the one you hear the most often.

I would've recommended the second version of this theme, but since you're planning on playing it I think it's better you experience it yourself

City Ruins is one of my favorite tracks in NieR: Automata, but I do like a lot of the slower, more solemn songs :D

This music is in my FF14 lineup for a reason.
To add: the music itself was enough for me to platinum the game on PS4.

This song sounds exactly what Japanese Hans Zimmer would have composed.
This track is like the definition of Nier
I'd discribe this song as hauntingly beutiful
"Nier-automathon"? Checking out all the songs? Sign me up.
What's that ost that plays in background at the start of the video???
did he lisen to the amusement park one yet? I look and did not see it
sooo, if you want a good time you would play persona right? ;)
Ah yes the only song from nier that i like, it has a special charm to it that really speaks to me
React to more NieR and FFX music please
