    Thanks so much for posting! I am about to change my fuel pump tomorrow on my Quiet Diesel 7500 and could not find anyone either with the same problem nor a video on how to do it! What was so helpful is I have read about how the generator support tray blocks the fuel pump screws but I could not find a video or a picture that showed me how to get to them. Now I am confident that I will be able to replace my fuel pump tomorrow! Also to review my problem, the generator would run fine but shut down while driving after a while. It seemed to be happening randomly but now that I think about it, it was happening pretty much every time my fuel got to 1/4 full. And I am sure that all the fuel sloshing around while driving was causing it to stop because when I would park the RV, it would start back up after a lot of priming (and likely because the fuel settled down in the tank).

      So glad this hopefully helped, couldn't find any info about this problem either. We are out boondocking by area 51 but running into town every couple days to check messages, would love to hear back if you get it fixed or any questions. Dave

      @@OurEndeavor So I replaced the fuel pump, filter, and air filter. Starts up much better now so cautiously optimistic the problem is fixed; need a road test now. I was lucky that my generator support bar was already cut/modified to expose the pump screws, that was a nice surprise! My biggest challenge was to get the old hardened fuel hose off of the brass elbow fitting, and then to remove the fitting from the pump while still installed; I could not get the pump out with the fitting installed any way I tried to position it.

    • @OurEndeavor
      @OurEndeavor  4 роки тому +2

      @@MyPilot69 few great points! modifying the support bar is an option! Using 2 wrenches on the hard line between the pump and filter is a must (but not shown) and I also removed the elbow at the pump made it easier to remove 👍 hopefully this solved your problem! If not 5 years ago (before we started filming) I tested the glow plugs (can be tested with a simple multi tester) 2 of the 3 were bad so replaced all three, They're not cheap ($70 ea) so definitely test first but replace all if any are bad (I still have the 1 good one in my spares tho lol) going to pin this comment, hopefully it will help others down the road! Cheers! D

    Very nice video I think trying to take all the angles to show all of us people how to do stuff was way more complicated than the replacement of the pump.Good job.

    Thanks so much for posting. You are the man for tackling such a project. I just had my Quiet diesel 7.5kw generator's fuel pump replaced because the generator wouldn't run unless it had 3/4 of a tank of fuel. About a year ago, it wouldn't run unless it had 1/2 tank of fuel and about 2 years ago, the coach had to have at least 1/4 tank of fuel, as it was when we first purchased the coach. So it was a gradual inducement to change the damn fuel pump. I had a really nice company in LA County do the work but holy smokes, you wouldn't believe what they charged me. lol. That being said, I'm happy with the work they did to make the generator run again. I'm supposed to go back to them soon to have a major service done on the unit (oil & filter change, fuel filter change, air filter change, spark arrestor cleaning, remove and replace radiator fluid, replace the water pump belt, and adjust the valves). They charge $280/hr for labor and my unit is non-slide out so the estimate of $2500 for the work is not cheap. Again, thank you for posting.

    • @OurEndeavor
      @OurEndeavor  6 місяців тому +1

      Ouch, yes nothing is cheap anymore, I haven't changed the belt but understand that's a task in itself, when I do replace mine I'll be sharing it 👍 thanks for the comment, it's great having feedback. Dave

    Wow, my onan 7500w was slow to start on our, new to us, 1998 Monaco. Previous owner said it was always slow to start. Figured it may have been the pump so I ordered a new one, identical to yours. Pump is yet to arrive and now, after watching your video I'll be doing, an 'informed' R and R. Good work, thank you so much for taking the time to document this. Also have to appreciate the algorithm that presented this to me as a suggestion on UA-cam. Win, win.

    Thank you for an excellent fuel pump fix/video! Well done sir! My generator was a Onan Quiet DEISEL 7500 also. Recently the symptoms were, at first, unusual. The generator would run both airs and refrigerator all day while stationary but start driving and in a minute to three, the generator would die, flashing codes. Finally, the generator would only carry one air conditioner .
    Today I replaced the fuel pump and just returned from a road test of about an hour, and had no problems with my generator.
    Thanks again for excellent, detailed instruction. I could not find the deal in price that you did. Mine was $120.00 delivered but would have cost me 250-300 to have pump installed plus two to three weeks wail time, no doubt!

    Thank you for the video. I want to point out that the fuel line for genset is set in such a way the genset will run out of fuel at 1/4 tank so you cannot accidently run main tank dry.

  • @michaelanthony3816

    The gen pickup in the motor home for fuel is only down 3/4 into the tank so you will be able to start the MH so you won't run out of fuel for the MN. Good luck john

    I have a mobile pet grooming trailer with this gen set. I would like to drive with the gen on at times but doing so has causes the gen to ahut down. The bumpy roads and hills caused the fuel to slosh around too much and air got into the fuel line. It was hard to start after that and sounded bad but it worked itself out and it didn't need a fuel pump. And started rumming normally again.

    Hey that was FUN! Love the little animated birds and noticed that Dave flew the coup at the end while Ms. Karen's birdie danced then hung around to 'finish the task'! Great job in using common sense to problem solve the issue. I heard the new pump pulsing when you were testing the flow rate but I didn't hear the old on pulsing. That also might be a sign that a low pressure fuel pump has 'given up the ghost'! Happy safe and fun travels!

    What year your generator ?
    I think I have the same problem with my generator.
    I have Onan 20.0 genset and is 1986.
    One mechanic rebuild the fuel lift pump.
    Before I was only having a leak of fuel but the generator was starting.
    After the mechanic rebuild the fuel pump the generator was not able to start anymore.
    But the mechanic is working to put a electric fuel pump. I hope fix the problem

    Is the pump you installed an off brand? If so that’s why it was cheaper. I’m against cheaping out on specific parts, fuel pumps being one of those parts. Cummins charges more, but it’s about quality.

    • @OurEndeavor
      @OurEndeavor  Рік тому

      Reality is the pump is made by another company, Cummins does not manufacture pumps so in turn Cummins chooses a pump manufacturer and specifically a pump that they put their name on and accordingly their price. While the pump that I used did not say cummins or Onan on it, it was the same manufacturer that manufactures the pumps for them

    Great job! So my fuel pump went from that normal sound to sounding really loud when priming. Any idea why it'd do that?

    • @OurEndeavor
      @OurEndeavor  3 роки тому

      There's a couple of things, sounds like the pump has metal to metal contact somewhere outside the pump or pump is not secure (loose) . Another could be something in the pump has worn loose inside. Use a wooden shim slipped under or around the pump to tighten it up temporarily to see. Dave
