Shantiniketan | Amoli Cafe | Ram Shyam Village Resort Near Sonajhuri Haat | Kankalitala Temple

Rabindranath Tagore, Visva Bharati, Sonajhuri haat, Baul sangeet, tribal dance, and the Handicrafts Market-that pretty much sums up the idea of Shantiniketan for the weekend visitors. But are you aware that Shantiniketan has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2023? Also, Shantiniketan has great cafes to hang out with friends and family.
I have been to Shantiniketan many times in the past and have visited with my parents when I was a kid. I decided to relive those memories by visiting Shantiniketan with my mother this time.

We travelled by Vande Bharat Express from Howrah to Bolpur and reserved our stay at Ram Shyam Village Resort in Sonajhuri Forest, a picturesque and serene destination located in the Khoai region of Shantiniketan in Bolpur. The stay was comfortable.

Shonajhuri Haat, or Khoai Mela,is set up by local artisans and is right outside our resort. My mother is very fond of Rabindranath Tagore’s work, and she thoroughly enjoyed this vacation. We visited the Sonajhuri Haat almost every day of our stay here. We shopped our hearts out and danced with the tribals. The evenings were spent listening to live Baul music organised by the resort.

We also visited Rabindra Bahavana, or Rabindra Museum, which houses a major part of Rabindranath Tagore’s manuscripts, paintings, sketches, photographs, and numerous items such as his pens, spectacles, etc. associated with the poet's life. We visited the local handicraft market and purchased gifts for closed ones.

Amoli Cafe’, a boutique cafe in Shantiniketan, caught our eye. The ambiance of the establishment is warm and inviting, with a cosy and earthy feel. The interior design is tastefully done, with artistic decor and attention to details. The handwritten menu card was intriguing. The food was delicious.
We also visited Shri Kankalitala Shaktipeeth Temple during our stay. Our days were well spent.
