I did a disk conversation on my 59 Bel Air some years ago using a kit from Speedway. And the instructions were sorta vague also. I do like that your kit has a list of replacement parts, I'll have to screenshot that. Thanks for the video. It's good to see other 59 Chevy work on the YT
Is it the blue one with the flames? Thats funny I seen your comment. I think I just watched a video on it maybe. Do you suppose that will work with the factory style 2 inch drop spindles on a 64 impala?
Great video. I like how you did your dash two-tone. It carries through very well on your seats the black and red. Then if you were to do right on the outside that would carry very well as a transition from the interior to the exterior. I think car looks great the way it is. But it's always nice to improve them. I've got a four-door that used to be my parts car a long time ago when I was a kid. But even then I thought it was too good to use it for parts. Slipping in the drivetrain would be easy enough. I'm amazed how tough it is to find a decent Hood. I haven't really been doing anything with the car but I'm thinking now is the time
A masterpiece of a Video. I have a 58 impala that's leaking oil in somewhere in the small reservoir and I want to do this conversion. After watching your video I think I can do it, ONLY if your setup is exactly the same as my 58 all stock impala. Thanks

I bought and fit those headers 20 years ago. I seem to remember a few tight areas. I think the passenger side where it goes behind the K member (engine cross member), I cut the lip edge off the frame. There may have been a close call with the bell crank arm (clutch Z bar) as well. I currently have (World - Sportsman II) angle plug heads on it which make plug swaps a nightmare. I had a big block in it for a while. Those were a real tight fit.
@@larryfernow4071 I run an early 70's C10 bell housing on my 4 speed and the truck starter that bolts to it, not the block. I'll check on that and the ground clearance this weekend and get back to you.
Thanks again, I'm running a 283 with a cast iron power glide and the starter bolts to the trans bellhousing and not the block also so that's probably pretty close to the same thing. Thanks again for your help
I can't say for sure. I would think if the fluid volume pushed through the single reservoir was the same or greater than the newer style, it might work. The only other issue is the 2 inlets on the proportioning valve. I'm not a mechanic, so I'm not really qualified to give that input. I can say I'm not that impressed with my new brakes and when time/money permits, I'll probably change the master cylinder on mine. I feel like I got a lemon! Thanks for watching!
@@genuineworkinghands In the original brake system, on my 1960 Impala, there is no proportioning valve. Line goes from Mstr Cylinder to left front, across to the right front, then the tube runs through the drive shaft channel, where it splits or "Ts" on top of the differential, leading to both rear wheels.
@@jason60chev I didn't think so, but wasn't sure. I'm not sure if the valve is required because of the calipers (vs. wheel cylinders) or because of the split reservoir. If it's because of the reservoir, I don't see why you can't just buy the kit with the rotors, calipers, bearings and brackets.
@@genuineworkinghandsfor the disk system to work properly you'll need the dual master cylinder. You might be able to keep the Bendix booster though. You will also need the proportioning valve

If you want zero offset use 61-68 Impala hubs and 79 trans am rear rotors. Just did my 57 with them. Work great.
Right on! Thanks and thanks for watching!
That's good information

Great video! I will be preforming the same job with the same parts on a 64. I am glad that I ran across this. Thank you.
I appreciate it and Thanks for watching! I hope you're kit works out great. I've driven my car much more since the swap and it's a real pleasure.

Gotta like the second gear chirp.
3rd is even better
Good video, I drive a 59 Elcamino in about the same condition as yours. Any complaints with the.headers as far clearance etc.just curious

Thanks for getting back to me, how about ground clearance
Can you change the starter motor without too much trouble?

Is it possible to do a disc brake conversion and keep the original Bendix power brake set up, including the single reservoir master cylinder?
