Hello Kay and Gogo, In Sri Lanka the finger millet is called kurakkan. Halapa is a traditional Sri Lankan sweet treat. It's prepared with a combination of kurakkan flour, rice flour, treacle, cardamom, and grated coconut. The leaves that are used are called Kenda leaves (Macaranga peltata) which are commonly found in Sri Lanka. Kenda leaves are used to flatten the dough and wrap before steaming the Halapa. Now a days some people may use Caramelized sugar syrup, however traditionally treacle (such as Coconut Treacle or Palmyrah Treacle) is used as the sweater.
What is the real difference of your channel is that you are showing minute details in the video, especially, when you explain about different food types. Moreover happy to see that you are enjoying the trip and food.
Two amazing people spreading love. I love how you both respect every culture. I've only seen you guys being respectful to one another as well to everyone around. You're welcome back to Karnataka 🤍🤗 Have a happy journey 💐
I love how all of the stalls and buildings have the traditional pagoda-like Kandyan roof design (12:16). You can tell it's quintessentially Sri Lankan. I will visit this place one day.
The food seen at 15:08 / 26:20 is called Lavariya. The filing which is called Pani Pol, in the Sri Lankan native Sinhala language, is made from grated coconut & jaggery and flavored with cardamom powder. The outer layer made as a big string hopper from the rice flour dough. Lavariya is another Sri Lankan sweet treat.
Everything we had in Sri Lanka is absolutely delicious and we are so lucky to have people like you watching our channel who can give us information as well
1:44 my fav🤤 Guys if you could, try them from sri lankan bread tuk tuk which travels from town to town with delicious breads and buns. You could recognise that tuk tuk by its special music❤ We call it 'Choon paan' and 14:54 it's lawari😊
I knew Gogo was brilliant but didn't know he was a genius, he has turned the mathematics world upside down . Gogo's theorem of how big is small is and how small is big. Einstein wanted me convey his regards to mathematical genius Gogo. By the by Gogo may I have the small piece? Thanks.
Love the reference of Mr Bean....😂 well it was Tapioca porridge with Jaggery, cardamom and cinnamon, some sprinkle a bit of raisins and cashews.. I love it.
Sri Lankan sweets are different from communities to communities..Most of the sweets you ate are from Sinhala Community recipes. One with string hopper inside graeted coconot honey falvoured is called Laveria.. One with srong hopper like sugary zigsag pattern is called Asmi..( not ask me)😊 It needs a very rare verity of cinnamon called daul kurundu which is endemic to SL..that oil makes the string hopper hard..you will not find this sweet anywhere in the world..Most of the sweets you ate are made out with rice flour, coconut, sugar, honey, end essense like cardomon, clove etc.
