Brought back memories! I constructed a Ben Buckle Taylorcraft and a Balsa craft Hurricane in those little stolen time slots before everyone woke up - took a couple of years! Now, ironically I have much more time but seem to do much less with it...
You've covered a lot of ground with this build so far. Even through you spent a lot of time cutting the parts, it still seems like you've zipped through it pretty well. Nice episode to accompany my lunch break.

Nice progress on the fuse. You may feel a bit challenged on this kit but it's normal and an excellent learning experience. By the time you build another you won't even need an instruction book. You'll simply download a plan off Outerzone and start cutting parts! I haven't built this particular kit but have built several Sig ships. Glen Sigafoose was a printer before he went into manufacturing balsa kits. The company has always printed their own plans, instructions, even wood! Most of the kits were designed way back in the '60s and '70s so they tend to involve a lot of cutting and custom fitting. They are also a bit heavy and overdesigned structurally by today's laser cutting standards so "strengthening" isn't required generally. In fact many people lighten by drilling holes in things and replacing pieces with lighter balsa. One benefit of having a stout frame is that the plane will last longer under normal wear and tear. It's not that unusual to see old Sig planes still flying from the '80s/'90s. We're amazingly lucky to still have these old grandpa kits still available and reasonably priced because they're fun to build, reasonably priced, and fly very nice.

I really like your build logs. I'm just starting to work on my first balsa restoration, but in a similar situation with regards to getting time to work on it.
I reckon you shouldn't try to rush it to complete in time for the BBQ, you don't want to lose another build after the Citabria.

Nice to see how you get into it, Rob👍👍👍…it might be even a great idea to bring a not completed version to that club scale BBQ, it might be interesting for young RC pilots to see it as a motivation instead of buying a ARF? Cheers from Munich 🍺

Thats a great kit. I have been looking at the smaller scale clipped wing from Sig as possibly a next build or their standard cub but converted to the WW2 Grasshopper scheme. Good luck with the build!
Don't know what you mean by an old kit. The latest one I got last year was the same. Only problem is the wing doesn't take a tube and the struts need some TLC. I am careful using
Hobby King switches, check it carefully and ask someone that knows about switches.
I’ve just purchased this kit. Sig website says the kit is die-cut. Who knows how old the kit I ordered is… anyway, sounds like you’re saying that even the newer runs of this kit still require you to cut everything out? I don’t have the tools to do that so I might have to return it and get the BUSA kit.
I'm about to embark on the Sig Cub myself. Any updates on the build? I'd love to see a follow up video of the completion. What will you be covering your Cub with? I'm leaning toward tracking down some Solartex fabric covering. Apparently there is a shop down in SoCal that still has some available.
