Here’s my prediction for hytale based on previous so called “Minecraft killers”: -delayed at least 3 more times -finally releases in 2027 -most people already forgot it even existed -the game is extremely disappointing upon release -10 years later people are making videos about the downfall of hytale or something while Minecraft still sits comfortably at the top
The team being owned by Riot is the reason I don't think the game will come out, or if it does come out then why it won't last. Its not a stretch to imagine them canceling the project due to 'budget cuts' or because the estimated RoI doesn't look good. and IF it does come out, its not hard to imagine them cutting resources because its not living up to being compared to minecraft. That sort of thing happens all the time. Hytale really is just minecraft but a bit different. Vanilla minecraft servers can do 95% of what Hytale is offering with just plugins, data packs, and resource packs. Look at servers like Wyncraft or OriginRealms for the story & exploration. Or DiamondFire where you get to 'code' things in-game. Or just look back at the "one command block creations" phase that happened way back. They were basically entire modpacks using just commands. And thats not even considering mods. Even though I don't agree with some of your points, this was still a very well made video. I hope the almighty algorithm picks up this video cuz more people need to see it.
The game could have stood a better chance had it released close to it's announcement, I think. Back then Minecraft was at it's low point. But I'm very curious how it turns out. I think that if there were projects to cut, it would be small things and not a potential cash cow like Hytale. It simply sounds too good not to try and support it. And the fact is that they are actively trying to branch out into different genres. The MMO, Valorant, soulfighter, etc. The great thing about Hytale is that it's essentially outsourced, there is almost no effort required from any of the Riot employees to keep the project going (aside from financing, of course). The important part will be the Marketing, that's when I think Riot will want to step in, need to make it hit the road running. Anyways, only time can tell, I guess. Riot recently kicked many employees due to those investments being unsustainable but they didn't kick a single hytale employee, I think that shows how much potential Hytale has for Riot to have this much faith in it despite it being delayed so much
They are not releasing it now because they know that if the game isn't perfect from launch, no matter how much they improve it, the game will have lost all it's credibility in the player's eyes. I don't think personally that hytale will be in direct competition with minecraft. It is a different game that is more oriented around creativity and modding, the "campain" being more an example of what you can do with the game. What I think will happen is that riot will do a massive amount of marketing and the game will blow up in popularity. I think that most minecraft youtubers will play the game and, if it's free, you can be sure hytale will be a massive hit. It's impossible for minecraft to "die" but it can loose a lot of it's playerbase to another game. Seeing how minecraft's popularity is declining and how most youtubers can switch games if it brings them more view, hytale has a chance to be equal to minecraft. With that being said, I still love minecraft but I think it has gotten lazy or at the very least ,dumb with their updates and a serious competitor can be beneficial for both games.
I agree about them not competing too much. I think Minecraft will stay strong as people who play Minecraft a lot will stick to whst they are comfortable and already good at. So I think both will exist together.
If Hytale takes Minecraft's player base you bet it's in direct competition. Yes MC and Hytale are similar but different games but they are of similar genre like CoD vs BF.
Main issue with Minecraft these days is that most recent players can no longer access the big multiplayer servers. Also, the Bedrock version of Minecraft - which is the version unable to connect to multiplayer servers - is basically limited to Microsoft Windows desktops. I.e. instead of being able to run wherever Java is available, you're limited to the systems capable running Windows. Though I think Microsoft made a Bedrock version for Android a while back. But being unable to connect to existing servers makes it basically just as pointless as the old Android and Rapsberry Pi Versions of Minecraft.
Yeah, at this point this game is an urban legend with how long it has been announced for, without at least a beta available. Few more years and it could edge out Dead Island 2. Still hopeful though, 2025 is surely the year?
GTAV has sold more copies than any of those games mentioned except for Minecraft itself. They are not the honourable mention as much as I dislike Rockstar lately.
Fair, GTA was more of a whoops, guess I forgot about this game. Even then though, I may have been unclear, but I wasn't comparing copies sold or anything like that. It was more about what's really being played. GTAV is probably on par with COD in terms of player counts (hard to say because both have a lot of numbers on consoles), but it simply doesn't reach the player counts of the others mentioned. I was vague in the video though, my bad.
Minecraft is hot garbage. It used to be good, whenever we actually got GOOD updates. Ever since Microsoft acquired Mojang though, they've been so scared to release anything out of the ordinary that something as iconic as the creeper, or heck, even the nether would never get added by Microsoft. Now, we just get yearly updates that BARELY EVEN CHANGE THE GAME.
Minecraft's update cycle never ceases to amaze and infuriate me. "Feature parity", when discussing how long does it take to produce an update is something I'm especially allergic to. That said I still like the game. You can see in the background footage that I'm playing modded. It's more of a Vanilla+ experience, but still. Sometimes you need to help the game a bit to become what you want it to be. That's why I'm looking forward to Hytale, more tools for modders to create the experience they truly want.

Modders would appreciate a final version for sure. They could focus on more important matters instead of making sure everything works within every new version. Mod compatibility would get much better too. But Mojang doesn't want to lose all the publicity inherently tied to a game in an active development. Whenever there's a mob vote, Minecraft starts trending, whenever there's a new big snapshot you see Minecraft everywhere. If there were a final version, Microsoft wouldn't be able to sleep for all the fear of Minecraft falling into irrelevancy. That's what a tired me thinks anyways.
