    Excellent video. I worked out my BMI at 27.5. This is clearly due to my musculature and not any additional fat I may or may not be carrying 😁👍🏻

    I am a 15-year old and yesterday (29/08/2022) I have measured my weight at 79.5kg and my height at 178cm. This puts my BMI at 25.09. This is a 7.50% increase in my BMI compared to 18 September 2021 at 23.34. Just because I have crossed the 25 BMI boundary for being overweight by less than a tenth of a unit, I don’t think that this is because I am now overweight, but I think it is because I run 3 times a week and have developed muscle in almost a year’s time.

      I'm 19 and I'm having this problem as well. I started lifting at 16 and was also recovering from being underweight. Now I'm borderline overweight but I like how I look alot better and my waist measure is healthy. I'm trying not to take bmi too seriously at this point

    I haven't watched the video yet, but my experience in the army is that BMI is mostly relevant to squishy people. I'm sure Joe Rogan has a high BMI, but he's pretty muscular so it's probably irrelevant.

    Glad I found your channel. Seems like all your presenters are qualified to teach their subject, which is done clearly and with the minimum of b.s. I also have to add that I'm happier listening to European, rather than U.S, styles of presenting.

    This is a great breakdown of some of the major issues with BMI, but I wish you had touched on it’s debated effectiveness for people of different races and ethnicities. Besides that, very informative.

    Good explanation. It was balanced and touched on biases based on cultural factors. I’m 50, and 5’10”, and my BMI is 27.3. That’s considered “overweight” which used to bother me because I don’t look overweight, and I’m very healthy. My waist is roughly 31-32”. I exercise daily and eat very healthily. So, thanks for the balance.

    Okay, but explain to me why I was within “normal” range for BMI when I was chronically nauseous and not eating for up to 3 days at a time, looked skinny as hell, and had low energy levels Vs. when we figured out I had a digestive issue that was causing the chronic nausea and not eating, started eating to support my digestion and gained over 45lbs resulting in being labeled “obese” to the point where doctors blame my preexisting health issues on my weight.
    I do appreciate you discussing weight shame/stigma though, I felt seen for that.

    I have very slim bones. Even when I’m at the upper limit of “normal” bmi I look skinny

      WHich highlights all the individual variation that BMI simply can't capture

      BMI shows the change of developing health problems based on your weight. If you look skinny but are in healthy weight zone then you are fine. If you say you have slim bones then your bones would get stressed trying to carry more weight so use your logic.

    Where would a person with hypothyroidism fit in. Since their overall body becomes weak due the condition, also due to which at some point of their ailment, they'd fit in that so called healthy BMI range, when they are actually not doing well. So, there are contradictions to the concept of BMI for sure.

      The whole point of BMI is to determine healthy weight range in the sense to predict likelyhood of developing cardiovascular health problems. If you have health problems and BMI is good, your weight is "healthy" but you as a whole are unhealthy.

    After an ACL tear I was told by the hospital physio I was too heavy for the op, I was bmi obese 2 at the time and high muscle and high fat. She told me to drop a stone before I would even be considered. The consultant and the anesthesiologist both said that stone made no difference in the decision to give me the ACL repair and I was a good Candidate due to the strength around the knee. She cost me over a year needlessly and on many occasion high pain due her stigma.

      Yeah I really don't know why some important surgeries recommend weight loss beforehand when it just extends the time people are suffering with the issue

      Me too. I move every day and lift 3x a week. My bmi is 25. My dr said it’s fine.

    I don’t think that bmi works well. I used to be very underweight (I used to pass out and my health was fucked) but my bmi was normal. Now I’m healthy I go to the gym I eat normally. But my bmi is « overweight » and god damn it triggered me

      I hear ya. I checked my ht / wt ratios I recalled from my Army days. My cousins called me bones, because I appeared to be skin and bones I was so thin as a teen. BMI checked out normal range, close to center actually. After 3 years in the Army my BMI was a little higher, still in the normal range.
      I say this because I would rather concentrate on my actual health risks and eat properly, than try to attain Army fitness decades later. BMI, in my consideration, is a crude first glance to gather information. It is nearly useless on its own.
      When healthcare professionals constantly discuss BMI, they come across as focusing too much on that number and lessening the rest of the info from a patient. To clarify, it makes it look like healthcare is a one size fits all industry...just get your BMI and and a pill. Healthcare is MUCH more important than that, and should be treated as such.

    sports will catch up with you as you get older, but if you have higher BMI. It's going to catch up with you sooner. BMI is like as good as a grade in school. I also think. We should stop looking at athletes as healthy people. Athletes are unhealthy fit people.

      Cardio capacity and muscle mass are shown to increase your odds of longer lifespan and healthspan. Living an athletic life playing sports is a great way to get both 💪 what do you mean by "athletes"?

      BMI is used to determine the likelyhood of developing health problems based on your weight and height. Even if you are a body builder or really muscular and fall under obese you are still prone to health problems later on because both muscle and fat compress your organs. In the video you posted 2 years ago, you were pretty over weight to me, idk how you are now. Sorry to say the truth.

I ride my bike 100 miles a week, i lift weights and i do Brazilian JJ. I can bet all my money that I'm in better fckng shape than u are, and the video i posted 2 years ago, you couldn't do half the shit i do, sorry to tell you the truth 🤡 🤦‍♀️
