Thank you! I think this computer has a lot of potential. The COROS developers really have their work cut out for them. We'll see how things go over the next 100 days or so. Hope all is well with you buddy!
Wow, thank you so much! Maybe I should think about making a video about a more general topic outside of all of this sports tech stuff? Thank you ChieLovesKush! I really appreciate it. 👍
@@mlegrand I was thinking your channel would grow like crazy if you reviewed more traditional tech, like laptops or tablets. But you have a pretty great niche already.
@@izefreeze - I'm open to trying new things. In addition to a running coach, I'm also a software developer so there's fun stuff on the tech side that might be fun to explore. 👍
@@mlegrand I was wondering if you were a software developer, in another video you discussed some pretty technical stuff. What realm of software are you in? (I am also a software dev!)
Noted! Thanks Mike! It'll be interesting to see how much the COROS development team can stuff in this thing before it goes to market. 100 day review might be about the amount of time needed. 🤷♂️ Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Man, every time I think, “Matt couldn’t get better b-roll, or more cinematic footage “ you prove me wrong! The hard work shows, none of that is easy! Really loving the potential here and the Coros history of constant updates and improvements. Excited to see where they take this! Been part of an early beta group since winter and it’s been cool to see this grow over time.
Ok, then I'm guessing you ran into some odd bugs similar to what I've been seeing. Seems like the COROS development team has their work cut out for themselves.
Great video editing and review! Yes please, your follow-up review will honestly be my key factor if I should buy the koros dura vs karoo 3. I heard some reviewers said that they had problems with the connection to their power meters as it was consistent. Thank you!
It has serious potential. It seems like the launch has been a major struggle for COROS. For the stuff I do, it’s pretty cool. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Yeah, I'm a big fan of the HH Karoo. I should have a review of the HH Karoo 3 at some point in the next 2-3 weeks. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I really only ride two bikes outside and my TT bike is relegated to the bike trainer. But I'm still interested to see if COROS can deliver on all of their in this thing. Hope your training is going well. 👌
Good review Matt - and an interesting product. The headline price is good but I'm struggling to get past the looks (and trade-off in screen real-estate). It kinda reminds me of a Garmin Forerunner 305 I bought a few years back - lots of device and not much screen. You have to give them kudos for taking on the established players in this market so it'll be interesting to see how it develops.
Yeah, I can't tell. I think I'll be able to get over the looks in favor of the massive battery life. But even with that, COROS still needs to deliver on some of the big promises made in this product. It feels like it needs to 'bake' for a few months before it's really ready to go. Hope your triathlon season is going well! 👌
I miss map details and a standalone re-routing compared to my Garmin 1030 and actual Karoo2. Don't get me wrong..I am great fan from Coros..had a Pace2 for 2 years..changed back now to a Garmin 965 because of display and my old eyes. But of course it is all a question ot taste. Thanks for the review.
As always, the visuals, and cinematography is absolutely top tier. I was looking to buy a cycling computer, maybe I will go for this one rather than one of the more traditional ones. What is very unclear to me is if I connect it to a Garmin FR watch, will the activity be synced between both devices, to Garmin Connect, to Coros ? I don't even know if it is possible to mix different brands.
I typically mix and match brands but a Garmin watch wouldn't been able to sync data in the same way as a COROS watch. I'd wait and see if COROS could deliver on some of the big promises made in the product. It feels like it needs to 'bake' for a few months before it's really ready to go. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Im highly considering this as ny first bike computer. Im thinking of replacing my Samsung galaxy watch in the next couple of years with a coros watch. Would you think that the dura is hoing to be a viable choice for a bike computer?
It might be a decent first option. I would be very curious to see how COROS follows up on it's promises here with the needed software development. They have their work cut out for them. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I know right? I can't tell if it's something I'm going to get used to or if it's going to annoy me indefinitely. 😬 Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Yes, you can see stuff like selected Gear and Gear Ratio details. The Dura only handles Bluetooth and not ANT+. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I‘ll have a look when all the bugs are worked out and the features actually do what they’re supposed to do. DCRainmaker and GPLlama were not impressed…
They were pretty harsh in their reviews but I love their reviews. To me it seems like the COROS development team has a lot of work to do but I think it’ll be an interesting product. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
why is almost everyone positive / pleased about the device but the two garmin loverboys dcrainmaker and gplama are concerned (particular as an early beta)?
I’m guessing the fact that it’s an early beta is the cause for some concern here. Personally, I wasn’t given very much time to test this device so it became a very obvious ‘first look’ and not a full review. I was astonished with the company specs provided which I think is part of the way I presented these details. Given the length of the battery life, I literally did not have enough time to test it. But DCRainmaker and GPLama seemed very fairly critical. The company should have probably pushed this date back, let the software catch up and allow for real reviews. If COROS wants reviews to cover these launch events, they should be ok with some first looks being optimistic and others being more realistic. 🤷🏻♂️
"garmin loverboys" - What a ridiculous statement from the sidelines. Play the ball, not the man. And I'm not sure what constitutes a 'real review' Matt? I assume you mean a review of the production firmware? Based on the standards of their beta functionality, their conviction in sticking to their announcement date/review embargo of clearly limited/broken functionality - I have low confidence the DURA will be any better in the coming weeks. The pressure is now on Coros in a VERY big way. If consumers receive the device in the state as supplied to the media, the product will be DOA.
@@gplama - I think for me, a real review is something I’ve had for much more than a week. Maybe 2 to 3 weeks minimum? I’ve never really thought about strictly defining it but maybe I should. 🤔
As far as me, I've been very pro-COROS for many years (including still now). I want to see them put a solid competitor in the mix here. But in it's current state, this isn't it. It wasn't just myself and Shane pushing back on this privately, to COROS, prior to the announcement. A number of others did as well, noting it wasn't even close to being ready. It's one thing to do a first look for a product many months away from review focusing on the big picture thing, but I think in a case for a last-second push-back of timelines, I have to be more realistic. In my review I noted when I think COROS will be able to achieve stability, knowing how much I know about the company and what it'll take. There were 55 review units out there for the COROS Dura, and within that, the majority seemed to go to wearable people with virtually no cycling product reviews in their review portfolios. Ultimately, we see the results of that.
@Dcrainmaker - Thanks for chiming in Ray. I watched both your and Shane's reviews and I got the impression that you did in fact want COROS to put out something that would be competitive and you were even hopefully that it might be competitive in the future. Something like “Watch out Garmin if COROS gets this fixed”. That’s pretty optimistic. If Shane thinks my video wasn't critical enough, I'd say that's a fair criticism. Behind the scene, I was also reporting bugs to COROS but only in the very short amount of time that I had access to this device. And ultimately, time spent reporting bugs is time not spent working on the review. 😬 My gut feeling, as a software developer, is that some of these bugs will be quick to fix but others are quite a long ways off still. At the same time I worry that adding additional processing to these upcoming tasks might reduce the battery life claims that are already very optimistic. I'm looking forward to doubling back and making a video about the DURA after 100 days. I think COROS will need all of that time to deliver on what they've promised here. Ultimately a year or more might be realistic. 🤷♂
I'm a huge fan of GP Lama and Ray but calling this misleading seems like a stretch. I'm obviously not trying to mislead anyone here in this "first look" (not a review). But I guess first looks have plenty of issues just by the nature of them not being full reviews. I agree that this device has issues but also huge potential and I have an entire section about things I wish were different. Either way, thanks for watching and commenting on this one Drone Scene.
