What Derek has going on is not just good guitar playing ,it's a force of nature , it makes you feel something inside, happy to be alive during his time
The vocalist is Mike Mattison who has been with Derek 15+ years. Derek damn near makes me weep. I might get struck dead for saying this but I think Derek is a better slide player than old Skydog himself, Duane Allman. Loved DTB and now TTB.
As they say he's the best, till the best comes along. I have wondered this place called earth for over 73 years and have seen guitarists that would blow you sox off, but they have not the chance to be onstage or get the adulation of fame, because they don't care for it. They play with the passion and feel, for the moment not $$$$$$$.
Derek seems like he is real humble. For being one of the best guitarist ever and having a father that was an original member of one of the most influential bands he seems like a good dude.
I don't know if I ever seen Derek play with a capo before, makes such a difference; I can see why he did it for this song, gives it that choked Howlin vibe
If Derek would have named him self "Pine cone Johnson" and made alot of ugly painful faces, he would be much more popular. But i'm glad he chose to just be himself. The best guitarist on the planet.
I hope the comments of "Dereks got better than this" are teenagers who think they know everything, because anyone who knows blues and plays blues...knows you play a song in the respect of what it is, and this song is totally in that state of tradition. No high gain voicing is the intention for a Howlin' Wolf tune, thats NOT what makes ones playing BETTER. This solo is every bit consistant as anything he plays, wether high gain overdriven amp to a clean tone for a ballad.
Don't get me wrong, I like Mattison, but this song is a bit, um, lame with his vocal style. He sounds like he's about a breath or 2 from falling asleep.
Derek is one of the best blues guitarist in the world today
noam Israel..yeah and ask Carlos if in doubt..maybe not
Buddy..but maybe yes
Nothings changed over 5 years later!
What Derek has going on is not just good guitar playing ,it's a force of nature , it makes you feel something inside, happy to be alive during his time
I think he is the best slide player around today
By far
Love this Band and the Rythym section is fantastic!!
Trucks knows how to 'construct' a great solo .....great work.
Revamped, Cover of Howlin Wolf song Down in the bottom.
Hopefully after this they carved his name on the King of the Blues Trophy and afterwards called it the Derek Trucks Trophy....

Can understand the "Derek better than Skydog". Not quite yet, but he sure is close.
I agree.
Objectively he is.... it's just emotionally hard to admit
Derek's got a lot of the tone and technically more flashy (in a good way), but really, Duane set the foundation Derek's built upon.
Duane and Derek...2 different and excellent styles. neither is better than the other
This can't be taught. You are born with this guitar talent. Great band too
Man...he is so good
As they say he's the best, till the best comes along.

Outstanding.
Derek truck may very well be the greatest slide player to have been recorded .
2 words. Holy Shit

Uncle*
My Hero...... what else can I say?
I don't know if I ever seen Derek play with a capo before, makes such a difference; I can see why he did it for this song, gives it that choked Howlin vibe
make it easy with open tuning you can just move the side any were you want
It`s GRATEST

Have to agree. He's very stone faced, but such a player. Such a joy to listen to.
Well, this sounds like "Rollin' & a tumblin" ! (Canned Heat) and ??
Yes, it does, and Rollin and Tumblin was Muddy Waters before Canned Heat and somebody else's before that back to the 1920's! Good blues is timeless!
Muddy Waters did the definitive version.....Muddy would have approved of Derek....both play(ed) with such soul!!
'Meet Me' was basically Howling Wolf's version of Rollin' and Tumblin'
I thought that thing was gonna ignite during the last 15 seconds...holy damn
thanks i gottsta run i gottsta go

3:30 on.....Sunnuffa........
Crikey! They really let rip there. Wow!
You mean "Rollin' and Tumblin'" Right !!?
that's Mike Mattison on the vocal
This sounds like a note for note copy of Rolling and Tumbling by Muddy Waters
so matter of fact
actually he's derek's uncle
THIS SUBLIME BLUES RIP MY HARPS OUT TO IT ERYTIME
Anybody know what tuning is he in?
A
Master of the slide.. and he doesn't use a pick??
The vocalist almost captures the Wolf. Same tone, but not quite as powerful. It's great though.
Maybe an uncle vs a father. I am sure that Butch Trucks is not his father unless you mean someone else!
Eric Wells Butch was his uncle.
Meet me at the bottom? Its rolling and tumbling, right? :)
It's Howling Wolfs rendition of yes Muddy Waters song "Rollin & Tumbling"
Never play this at a blues jam. It’s a 12 bar blues with a 2/4 bar at the end of each 4 bars. People will f*ck it up. 😂
Don't get me wrong, I like Mattison, but this song is a bit, um, lame with his vocal style. He sounds like he's about a breath or 2 from falling asleep.
Friggin' love Mike, but Susan Tedeschi absolutely kills with this song.
oh yeah haha i guess thats the right song
no he isnt :-) just use the google
wtf sounds like toad by cream
Butch Trucks is Derek's father.
His uncle...
Gee and I thought that GMC was his father.
Who is GMC trucks father?
