This week, we tackled what might be our worst decision yet: transforming our walk-in pantry into a beautiful storage space and redoing the flooring. 🛠️🏡 While we had high hopes, we're not quite sure if it was the best idea in the end.

Please do not throw away old boxes and papers. You can put it at the bottom of your garden bed, when they are decomposed they will become additional fertilizer for your vegetable plants.

No clothes dryer in Germany? All family households I know have one. Indeed I was surprised that statistics say it is only about 43% of all - even single person - households have one.
No "general" right on red, but there is the "green arrow" that allows right on red on certain crossings.
"lüften": There s absolutely no law that says you need to open the windows of your own house. But if you rent a flat - especially a new, brick made one - you need to ensure to raise no mold. It´s healthy on the one side (to have no mold) and if there is: usually it´s the owner´s expensive job to remove it. So if I was the owner .. I would make it as a requirement, too. Btw: "lüften" also avoids a house to smell "old".
The statistic regarding dryers doesn't really suprise me, many people seem to dry their clothes by hanging them on clothes lines outdoors or in a basement room.

I have been following you some years now (dont remeber exacly how many). I defintly did not start out following you for anything about Germany or houses. But 100 % for the vanlife content. But I am still here, and will continue to be. And I have been wondering why 😊 My conclusion 😊 Storytelling. It is like reading a book that devolpes in a direction you did not foresee, and you have to know what happends in the next chapter, and the next........ So please keep writing 😊👍🐾

If you use the tile in kitchen leave them big square and then grout ! In pantry you should have put tile much closer! But it does look great ! Proud of you ! Killzs paint on chip wall will keep the water out !❤❤❤
16:58 normally you put thinset under the tiles as you lay them, before grout. I’ve never seen it done without thinset so I am interested to see how this holds up.
I do like the the way it turned out, I think you just stared at it too long, as you were working on it again.
That happens with every craft I do,… the longer I work on it the less I like it but once I’ve finished and had time to sit with it a while I realize I do like it.

Wow at the progress y'all are making!! From the outside looking in, it appears that the two of y'all are making remarkable progress. It's a big undertaking renovating an older home. And I don’t know where you are in Germany, but Dille & Kamille has a bit of a similar vibe. They’re located more in the western parts of Germany, it’s a Dutch store. I saw “pindakaas”, so you might be reasonably close to the Netherlands.
I just visited Germany last week. first time. I LOVED IT. People were so nice and food was delicious. We went to Frankfurt

How old is your house? It looks like it could be 1960s? Maybe older. Consider that you may not be the first, second or third person to renevate it. So when you start taking down wall coverings and lifting floors, do not be completely surprised when you find out the "old stuff" you are removing is just covering up even older stuff! Stuff you probably don't want to see.
If you go far enough, down to the carcass of the house, you might find that old stone buildings have character and have moved around abit. Basically you could open a can of worms which may have been better to leave buried under the old plaster and wooden sheeting.

Love those shelves with the bark still on them. Did you need to oil the bark as well as the flat surfaces or is it fine on it's own? Definitely worth the time you took to do them Ellie. Floor looks a tad too dark but that's just down to personal taste. Overall nice video,thank you both 😃
I didn’t oil the bark, I think we might have to treat it differently if we want it to stay on🤔

Your pantry may need more ventilation is why it is sweating in the summer. All spaces need good ventilation. That room looks pretty small and kind of a basement. So check into adding some air flow down there.
Ja, we already figured out how to open the windows down there, so the airflow should be way better now :)

I assume many people don't really care how their underground storage area looks like and hence they don't bother with arts and crafts there. Most basements I know would be suitable sets for a new Saw movie 😁

Hey Maddie... Don't fret about not posting regularly. Most people are patient and understanding. Ellie is such a character! I'm glad you have each other to bounce ideas off one another. Your babies are growing up too fast; not babies anymore. I imagine that the old neighbour is still asking if you're done renovations yet? Your beautiful garden is going to produce so many preserves for the pantry. Only tackle one room at a time. I'm glad you put the shiplap back in the kitchen. Leave that project for another MONTH. Don't forget paper recycling day! BTW: I like the floor in the pantry.
How the oatmilk fit perfectly in the wooden box was kind of satisfying to watch. Love the end result. You guys are doing such a great job!

The pantry floor looks a lot better than the concrete floor before. I wonder if it's possible to lighten the grout color with a grout stain, maybe? Or will it change to a lighter color as it ages?

WOW! Looks great! I love that terrazzo tile. I think perhaps if the tiles were spaced closer together with LESS grout in between - that may have been more of what you envisioned. Regardless, still looks beautiful. Any plans to carry those tiles into the kitchen? They are so pretty whole as is, too, so that may be easier to use. Great job! The ducks have grown up!!!
