I prefer A because I feel more resolution and the instruments in the second track are more well rounded with more air around them and well defined I used professional headphones dt 770 pro Thanks for the great comparison
What a subtle way to let our ears judge the music, that's produced by these cartridges. It really makes a difference. I choose B for more a wider spectrum. I still hate the cracks in vinyl, but it sounds so much better than CD's. Vinyl has a heart and soul. So I keep playing music on physical media. Streaming does not even come close to the 'real deal'.
I would choose B, but i could live with either one and the difference is not too huge. I could hear the biggest difference on Old And Wise tbh and even that was not too big. I could use any of the two styli and be happy :) I had the ML and liked it a lot.
@@HiFisquarepants From what i have heard yes :) It's a very good sounding stylus and especially for it's price. Still i think the Concorde is more for me since it beat my ML :D Just needs a better stylus profile.
@@HiFisquarepants Nice! I would love to hear those vintage ones, do they still make styli for them? Thakker usually has a big variety of styli for sell.
Whichever one you go for you will be able to have fun & that is all that matters with listening to vinyl music because whatever system you have you will love it until you buy more.
They are both winners, the differences are only subtle nuances that are not noticeable if you have an average system but given the cost difference in any case the winner is EN, as a sound in my system I prefer B. Congratulations on this test, best regards.
The sound from A is much more 3D: There is a clear separation of the instruments from the vocals making the soundstage wider and clearer. The sound from B is more muffled with considerable crosstalk and the sounds of the instruments and vocals all blend together as a single entity. There is no soundstage to speak of with B but there is this pleasant feeling you get with mono recordings as the absence of stereo gives less fatigue during listening and sets a pleasant simplicity to the sound. A is clearly the superior product as instrument separation, soundstage and details even of the vocals are overwhelmingly better than B. If A is not the Shibata then this means that there is nothing to justify its price!
Sample 1: A has more soul! Something is missing in B... cant quite explain it! Sample 2: A is slightly clearer but the difference seems very very small!
Well if I thought that the difference was going to make that much difference I would not bother to worry ever again.. Because the difference is not something to think about in my opinion.. Maybe if you can't afford the VM95SH then go for the VM95EN & you will be just be as happy or maybe go for the VM95ML which will give you another problem.. but nothing to worry your pocket.. because I have bought VM95E VM95EN VM95ML & VM95SH & I can't really hear any difference at 74yrs of age .. but still love the fun of playing all my music on which ever one gives me interest at the time. So which ever one you can afford go with that.
Downloaded the files. My strongest preference is on the Stanley... definitely prefer B. One person's muddy is another person's 'full' but I like that fullness on that song. The Cardas, it was closer, but after downloading the files, I still prefer B, but to a lesser degree than the Stanley. For the inner groove comparison, it's very close. I'm not overly sensitive to IG distortion, but I still think I prefer the overall sound of the B sample.
A is EN. good drive, kind of cheap harsh sound. SH is calm and smooth, a bit muddy with details. Now I understand why the ML (which I prefer) is between both. thanks
I think there is more of "Something" in the sound of the cymbals with A, that I don't really feel like I miss when I concentrate on it with B. Not enough difference for me to prefer either one. I listened to an AT microline for decades, and have only had brief experience with the XP3 that came with my new turntable. That's a difference that anyone can hear. Having seen the price difference for the stylus on the VMN95SH, I just didn't feel right putting such an expense only on the stylus with the rest of the cartridge being only worth about $20. I think it's no accident that they don't sell their cartridges alone, so you have to commit to a stylus in order to hear how much better the 500 or 700 series is over the VMN95. Once you get that VMN95SH, there's nowhere left to upgrade without the completely new cartridge. I'd guess that A is the Shibata based on its history with the high frequencies for quadraphonics, but I'd buy the cheaper one if I had to choose between the two based on this test alone.
Stick with the VM95EN & you will not be disappointed because unless you have the money to throw away you will enjoy whatever Cartridge/ Stylus you have until you have the extra cash to upgrade to the next in line & so on until like me you get to the VM95SH.. but after that where would I go.. who knows🙂🙃
I prefer b in all the samples, however, it seems to me that the inner groove test is not enough severe. They both sound good and I can’t really hear a big difference on my earbuds. I think it would primarily comes down to IGD, though this test tellingly doesn’t test for that. I have the ML, but I now use it on my linn k9 body, which opened the sound up dramatically. The original k9 is also an EN stylus, which I assume is very close to the current EN you have, as they were made by AT. For me it was very engaging apart from the dreaded IGD…I am interested to try the SH in my k9 body. I really like that second track you used, who is it?
Thanks! BTW, did you download the loosless files? (see decription). That track is featured in the Cardas Frequency Sweep And Burn-In Record, it's a popular song titled 'I've Got A Feeling I'm Falling' and this version is performed by Tom Loncaric Band 🙂

Now i prefer b. Whats wrong with me
B is shibata. My guess.
I hear absolutely no difference on my TV speakers
from listening on here I cant really hear any concernable difference.
Yo no noto diferencias😣😣😣
Anoto tu votación, gracias! ;) De momento B va ganando por goleada. La semana que viene desvelaré cuál es cuál en mi canal secundario y publicaré los porcentajes :)
A!!!!!
🙂👍
you should not post what is playing, A or B then see if anyone can hear a change. Bet they can't
That would be next to impossible 😝
Nikko Ville
@@HiFisquarepants thanks! I will try to download but tend to only view yt on phone. Just seen the results so will listen now listen with that insight.
A = Shibata 😜
Was this your first impression or did you change your mind for any particular reason...?
Me quedo con A
Gracias! 👍 Veremos cuál es cuál cuando haga el 'vídeo de desenlace' 😋
B
😉👍
No difference.
