I DID IT! I started the musselburgh hat. Thank you so much for the tutorial. I couldn’t have done it without it. I’m proud of my 75 year old self. I didn’t learn to knit until I retired so videos are great for me. Love your podcasts.
Dear Nicole, I first discovered your youtube videos as I was recovering from 2 hip replacements 2 years ago. I watched all of them, and they took me out of myself, a d brought me happiness and joy as I watched you share your beautiful work. You made a difference in my life, and so many of us faithful viewers have missed your gentle presence!! I wish I could do something for you in return, but just know you are being sent positive healing energy as you get better day by day. Lots of love!!!❤
I am 71 years old. Knitted since age 7. I have every knitting needle and crochet hooks Chiaogoo makes and have used all of them . I would never part with any especially at your age unless I was upgrading. I don’t have other brands but I do have duplicates as I use the 2 circular method frequently. I make everything- hats, blankets, adult and baby stuff , mittens, toys, your yarn holders tote floats, scarves, shawls and you name it I have knit or crocheted it. My stash is big but not hoarder sized. I teach and give away what I can’t use yarn wise. I usually have 4-8 projects going at once. Most are original designs ( I sell some) and some are others patterns but they are rare. I do go to the beach or a park to inspire me . I sit out on my patio and enjoy my miniature horse 🐎 while I knit. I have learned to really love my passion. I also facilitate 3cancer groups one local one, 2 on Facebook. I have stage 4 breast cancer but I really maximize my loves. Never lose sight of your real goals girl. Life is too important to do things for other people’s benefits. Be true to you!
#question Will you be doing a video telling us about your traveling/mobile housing adventure? Showing us your van/rv and where are some of the locations that are first on your travel to do list and why?
I thoroughly enjoy your videos and get the aesthetic of “new project goes in a special bag”😂 My honey just rolls his eyes when I make a new knitting pouch or bag for a project….and you know it has to go with the season, too!!!! You are my weekend knitting with coffee routine; thank you for such delightful and inspiring content❤
I feel the same way about the Steven west shawls. His videos are fantastic and so are his techniques. He's truly a knitting genius. BUT the finished products aren't always my personal aesthetic. I worked so hard on last year's staying caught up and such and then ended up ripping the whole thing out. My plan for this year is to set aside some scrap yarn and follow along with his weekly videos to see how the techniques are worked. I will either work that technique into another project OR once I see how it's working up if I love it... THEN I'll knit the actual shawl.
Nice episode Natalie, beautiful blanket for Toaster! However, I’m so disappointed that you didn’t talk about your exciting move. I appreciate that you shared the news on Instagram, but I thought for sure you would tell us a little bit more about your plans here with your UA-cam friends. Maybe on future episodes 🤞❤Thanks for sharing your knitting and experiences with us
Congratulations on your upcoming travels. It will be so much fun watching your journey! Don't forget there's a huge ferry 🚢 to the 51st State - Australia 🏝🦘😉
Oy the math in your Battenberg Blanket, Natalie 😂! I definitely will watch your progress and hope to make one too. Your 3” size is more practical. I have plenty of scraps and my first advent calendar ordered from Molly for this December. Great Stitchionary picture books from Vogue.
That Pokemon calendar is amazing ❤ takes me back to when I used to play Pokémon card tournaments, I even went to worlds and everything. I hope I will be able to get one someday if she makes them again so I can make Pokémon socks ❤ Toaster is one lucky dog !
#question As I am working on the ribbing of a sleeve while enjoying the podcast, I was wondering whether you - as a fellow English style knitter - may have some tips to make it less tedious, more enjoyable and maybe even a bit faster. I tried continental knitting, but that seems not to be doing it for me. Thanks for providing me with such a nice and informative company while crafting!
Exciting things to come and I can’t wait to follow along! I don’t always comment but watch every episode. Yours is my favorite podcast and I love the membership. You bring lots of joy to my life! 💕💕
The blanket looks so good!! Your thoughts on project progress is so helpful. I think the same way and did find having multiple socks going was helpful. Different sock for the various other activities!
Hi Natalie. You did a great job for Toaster's blanket. I like the new sock design you are knitting too. I hope you enjoyed your day off during the week. We all need a deserved break now and then. I can see my earlier posts that you are traveling when you move. I hope it goes well for you all. take care
You could sew a satin ribbon or a thin piece of pink fabric to the inside of the strap so that is the foundation and it won’t stretch. Keep it pink and you won’t see it at all.
Toaster's blanket is just beautiful! I love all your Sock Week sock progress. I plan to work up my first sock before Sock Week. I ordered the Jellyfish Jubilee sock set. I also can't wait to follow your progress on the Battenburg Blanket. I love A Homespun House yarn. Thanks for a great episode! ❤
The Battenberg is such a beautiful project. Looking at your placement diagram... you'll have same colors touching on the diagonal. ok with that? Congrats on your new adventure... taking the show on the road!
I'm obsessed with Succession but it is a dark comedy/tragedy with some pretty serious social & family issues dealt with so it might not meet your desire for something "light." But it is super super good and often quite hilarious.
Love the slip stitch sock I think you should do pink at the heel and blue at the toe. Once again, just left to tell you how much I love your episode. I look forward to them all the time I love living vicariously through your knitting. You keep everything interesting and fun.
I love the way you are planning out your Battenberg blanket! When I made mine I just grabbed the next mini from a bag and went for it! My only rule was don’t put two colours the same together! I really hope you enjoy making yours x
Hi Natty. I did make may first Musselburgh hat. I bought the pattern so many years o go. Thank you so much for your tutorial. Now I can’t get enough of this pattern. I just want to know how may stitch must I do for adult meduim. The pattern reading is a bit confusing. Enjoy your day. Thanks for the tutorial……
#Question I bought the N Mendze yarn and I want to make a longer sock like the slip stitch sock but I didn’t think there was enough yardage in the skein. Please continue with your updates on this sock so i can start by sock week. Thanks
Hello from St.Louis Missouri! I feel so bad because I have over thousand books not counting the magazines. I have started to downsize because I need to move to a smaller house, since I am by myself now.
You inspired me to get an iPad mini for my Knit Companion. I love it and I’m not an Apple kind of girl. I love Toaster’s blanket. And I can’t wait for your new adventure to start.
Google foundation hdc--there are ways to start your crochet projects without using a chain at all! :) Also I've finally caved and am halfway through my first Musselburgh hat. Thought it was over-hyped but it's so not, this thing is amazing
Love your videos! Also making a Battenberg blanket right now - have found I am using slightly more solid colour than varied colour as in the joining you use more solid colour as you go round again.
I just recently finished the perfect fit course and the spreadsheet is so helpful for changing the length of the leg. If I want to get heels, toes and cuffs out of a mini I can only get 15 rounds for the cuff, so I’ve created separate sheets for a 20 round vs 15 round cuff, and I’ve also got different sheets for 9 inch circulars vs magic loop as my tension changes. So helpful!!
I’m really enjoying your crochet blankets! Best wishes on your new adventure. I’m looking forward to seeing your travels. Hope it’s not too smokey in NYC today.
The Ripple is such a really cute top! I would think another solution would be, if the straps do stretch significantly, you could add a cute tie to the back to join the straps into kind of a racerback style. I would probably use icord, which you could just loop under the straps in the back (like near the center of your shoulderblades) and then tie it into a cute bow.
#question I tried helical knitting for the first time in my last sweater project to alternate hand dyed skeins and I really loved it. My only hang up is how to end it so that I can do the hem and bind off. Am I missing something or overthinking? Any help is appreciated. I watch your podcast weekly and was here for the NYC move. So excited for this next adventure for you, Kent, and Toaster.
Two thoughts, firstly how cute would a dress look in the pinks from Toaster's blanket in the zig zag pattern. Secondly seeing the slip stitch sock, I thought it would also be great to have a pair of socks to match Kent's hat & Toasters blanket. Mum, Dad & Toaster :-)
#Question - Ok, so my stubborn self has finally managed to learn how to knit (after 9 years and thanks in large part to your amazing tutorials!) and I was just browsing through needle sets online to get a feel for what's out there and GOSH it is so confusing! I see sets with what appear to be standard length needles (5" or so?) and then "shortie" sets with needles that are maybe 3.5 or 4" long. Beyond the obvious, what's the difference? Does it have to do with hand size or comfort for the knitter, or does it have more to do with the projects you plan to work on? I have fairly small hands and joint issues, so I tend to lean on the shorter side for crochet hooks. Would shorter needles be better for me or no? Thanks so much!
Hello. Did you know that there is a book rate for shipping at the post office? It’s much cheaper than regular shipping, but it has to be only books, nothing else.
#question I’m not sure if you can discuss this on the podcast, but I have a question about the Fish Lips Kiss heel. In the pattern it says you should knit 1” of plain stockinette either before or after your heel. Do you do thid on sock patterns with an all over patterned leg? Just curious! Thanks for everything you do!
#question If you do the blanket as you say, working through the rainbow and then grouping the neutrals all together, won’t your blanket look very colorful most of the way through until you get to the end, or wherever the neutrals will be? What about spreading the neutrals out among the colors so that they are evenly dispersed among the colors? Just a thought… hmmm now you’ve got my brain working.
#question Hi Natalie. I have found knitting to be a gateway into lots of other crafts and have dabbled in weaving and spinning. Do you ever find yourself tempted to try something new and what, if any, other crafts do you do?
Received Jellyfish Jubilee and Sock Island today - they are gorgeous! Really looking forward to Sock Week :-) #question: I love the "catching floats" method of weaving in ends as you go. But I can always tell the stitch where I've caught the end or nonworking yarn, as the stitch is sitting incorrectly on the next round. It's not a big deal - I just knit that stitch through the back loop to get it reoriented - but wonder if I'm doing something wrong? I am a continental knitter so holding the working yarn in my left hand; and the old yarn in my right; would it make a difference if I switched? Thanks so much 🙂
#question Hi Natalie, I look forward to your podcasts every week and enjoy them so much! How would I search Ravelry for knitted blankets using Advent mini-skeins? I’m hopeful you haven’t been asked this too often because I cannot for the life of me figure out the search terms or technique for this! 😅
Hi Natalie , Je vais essayer d’écrire en anglais 😂 thank’s for the vidéos , I like it . I have a question for you ; my children are comming to New-York and I would like to know where to find Wood Shops for me , I knit a lot and I would like my children brings me beautiful wool to change French wools . Thank you very much for your reply .
Hey Natalie. do you have any idear where I can get my hands on the "alterknit" book online? I live in Denmark and have a hard time finding it without a too expensive shipping price.
Replying to myself to add - you said shipping books is expensive because they're heavy but the USPS actually has something called "Media Mail" which is a special rate for books! It's actually way cheaper to ship than regular packages, might be something to look into if you're trying to gift your knitting books!
Is there a way to enter to get a chance to win the leftover yarn from your blanket/hat? Toaster is a lucky boy! That blanket is gorgeous, I don't think I could have given it up for him 😂.
Hi Kent! We see you working hard!
Can wait until sock week.
Hi Natalie. Call me old fashioned, but, I like the idea of blue for the heal and toe of your striped sock. Have a great weekend and stay safe.😊
Question # did I miss your announcement of where you are moving?
I've just finished my 1st pair socks thanks to your amazing tutorials. Thank you ❤
Congratulations on your move, so excited to follow you through the US! All the best to you!
Thank you so much!!
I missed that! Where is that in the video?
I missed that too.

Awww Toaster loves his new blanket!!! 💕
I made the Battenberg blanket after watching Sandra Paul on Cherry Heart , I mixed my colours up to give it a more random look, and I love it

I would suggest Platonic on Apple TV for your next light hearted silly tv watching
just an fyi but books and other media (dvds, cds, etc.) can be shipped under "media mail" through the usps and it is so much cheaper!

The sock you were wondering what it is, it's a anklet, the type of socks I love to wear.
I have a DK weight Battenberg on the go. I am crocheting 2 rounds only and it makes 2" squares. I'm going for the full 1000+ size blanket.
Your blanket turned out amazing!

I would make 1 sock with blue cuff and toes and a pink heel and then the other opposite with pink cuff and toe and a blue heel!!
I call that size sock (pink and orange one) a “quarter crew”
