I’m excited to make the ilford jacket as well. Looks to me like a jacket that would work in lightweight fabric for transitional use or heavier weight for cooler weather.

I am a new subscriber and enjoyed your v!oh. Khaki is a green, the fabric you had was stone so you are right. The army used to use khaki as a camouflage colour.

Hi Emily…. I started watching your vids last year and became obsessed with LINEN. I scrounge all the thrift stores in the men’s department and buy up for next to nothing so many shirts - so many good quality ones from Italy. I then brought them home and cut them up and have sewed over 20 blouses and sleeveless tops.
I love the assortment of colours I have been able to find. I sometimes use the button plaque for the back and revamp the front…. It is so easy. I am totally the opposite with pants. NOT INTERESTED… too much trouble and I have a funny petite short body - it is no fun making them at all. I have to tell you - that shirt you want to make, I have found so many that look exactly like it - in the men’s department and if I buy a medium they usually fit me great….. They are all washable and I have yet to shrink one…. I soften them up for a few minute in the dryer after I wash them and they are good to go. If I am lucky I can also find great selections in the ladies section….I find linen all the time - as no one seems to know how easy it is to care for and how cool it is in the summer….. Just picked up a pair of wide leg, drawstring pale pale pink ones…. For the Spring! Every colour in the rainbow and neutrals to boot! Thanks for all the tips, I really admire your work on all your projects but especially your determination and strength to do all those pants, with zippers and belt loops, yikes!!!

Ohh you're so lucky, I hardly ever find linen at thrift stores! I guess the cat's out of the bag here on how good it is, haha.

Hi Emily! So nice to see you back and I can't wait to see your makes when they're done :) For your block Tee (used to be Kobe), I would HIGHLY recommend you watch the youtube video by the company that designed this pattern on how to sew those squared seams front and back. They are tricky but their explanation and demonstration was incredibly helpful. I would wonder if the Raita pattern by Named patterns isn't just what you're looking for in a shirt dress pattern? Simplilfabric carry named patterns :) Love their pattern shop too! They are presently having an incredible sale - not to be an enabler or anything :))) Another shirt pattern you might like to investigate is the Classic shirt pattern by Liesl and Co. She is an amazing teacher and her patterns fit really well. It's the sort of pattern that is handy to have - for whatever sleeve you like. Simplicity has 2 vintage sleeve only patterns 8695 and another I forget the number that are also helpful to have around. Both patterns will give you MANY sleeve options which you can add to any pattern. I loved your Pumpkin coloured linen from Simpliifabric by the way - I think when you look in the mirror and see how it brings out the highlights in your hair you'll agree it's a perfect colour for you!

Great ideas. Looking forward to seeing them. You may like Marcy Harriell's latest project. She turned a closed front pattern into a light weight, open front "robe." Would like to see those cropped pants in the turmeric fabric... if it's the right weight. So many great ideas. Kahki is a greenish beige.

Years later but just in case you'll see this: what is the top that youxre wearing in the video and did you make it? I've been looking for a collar/curved collar-less top like this!

Lovely spring projects. I think the tablecloth pattern is perfect for the jacket lining. It will look great!.
May I suggest a pair of pleated knee length shorts in khaki? That would be great and very on trend.
By the way kaki is originally a word in Ordu wich came into English via the Indian Brithish army. It refers to the uniform colors you find in a camouflage pattern. Such as drab green, light tan, taupe beige, etc.

I wonder if you could use the fabric-store's alejandra jumpsuit's elastic channel to add a drawstring panel to the shirtdress?

I love all your ideas, I also have the peppermint lounge set saved to make. Does anyone know of a pattern like the Elbe textiles Cornell shirt but with an actual collar? I want a relaxed shirt to wear as an over layer made out of light fabric for the spring

also, I think you would like the Dune set for undergarments. That pattern is pretty similar to the Arq sets if you have seen those. I believe it’s by Christine Hays

Love this video! Thanks for sharing! For the first time, I'm actually planning creating a capsule wardrobe with a mix of handmade and RTW. I can't wait for your summer capsule wardrobe because I want to use it for my trip to the UK in July! Looking forward to seeing the results! The Ilford jacket is a fun pattern to sew :)

if you’re looking for not too basic basic tops, i’ll recommend the Xanthea Top! it’s zero-waste, has a great range of sizes, and uses just about a meter/yard of fabric, so “it’s a great remnants-buster. it’s a little challenging sewing on the bias but i think it’s fun that way too! i got the pattern off of etsy, and only needed to print one page of pattern for the collar, so there’s minimal paper waste as well.

    • @EmilyLightly

Hey Emily! I love your style and your channel. You mentioned some patterns and fabric sources that I’ve never heard of so I’ll definitely be checking those out 😁 I’m currently trying to see a capsule wardrobe for summer but I also sweat a lot 😝 Do you have any fabric/colour recommendations that hide sweat? I just made a top in linen viscose noil in a cream colour and any moisture shows up really obviously 🤦🏻‍♀️

    • @EmilyLightly
      @EmilyLightly  2 роки тому

I feel like black or darker colours will hide sweat more. I actually find the worst colour for me is grey so I try to stay away from that. White also hides sweat for me while wearing, but then it stains more easily.

If you're looking to make underwear to wear under light colours, flesh coloured is way better than white. White shows a lot actually as it contrasts even with light skin

I must say I am so relieved to hear your experience with the Olya shirt as I had the same difficulty and am pleased with the result but wanted to rip it to shreds on many occasions and I usually love Paper Theory patterns. Love your plans as usual.
