- Telfar is one of the most successful modern luxury fashion companies in recent years, made even more impressive that its still owned by Telfar Clemens, the original business owner and creative director. Telfar is famously a favourite of celebrities like Oprah Winfrey and Beyonce for its everyone is welcome mindset that brings true accessibility to the luxury market. I very much look forward to a store opening for Telfar in the near future as I respect and admire his work so much

I think you missed a valuable opportunity to surpass the other analysis’ of Telfar that you mentioned. His childhood may not seem to have much bearing on his brand and ethos but I think his race does. His collabs with White Castle, Kmart and Rainbow have a different connotation when factoring in who he is. These are all brands that are routinely found in or are loved by black communities. Similarly, he recently announced an innovative pricing model that will reward early adopters and in effect punish trend chasers. Considering the largest portion of his consumers are the same people who created streetwear style and can often be seen at the forefront of trends, it’s an interesting move to say the least and is already being taken by some as a nod to the community.
I had a whole section on his pricing strategy and on Telfar day too and it had to get cut for time, but you're so right

Its very important, the way black creators are often unfairly treated in the media often heavily impacts their ability to reach the same exposure as a white counterpart would be able to. Without talking about it, the history of the brand wouldnt be complete and in a way I would be complicit in allowing racism to continue

I see Telfar as being the Coach, MK for millennials. Not ground breaking bags. Reasonably priced but a financial beast. The last truly commercial black designer was Willie Smith and he died before he reached his peak. Amazing video. As a Af American, thank you for NOT making it seem like black people just arrived in America and are copying white designers. It’s usually the opposite. I’m looking at you Gucci with your well deserved colab with Daper Dan.

Dapper dan is 100% on my list, most because he’s incredibly important yo to fashion history, but also because he’s a really important person to Black history. He was used for his ideas by so many for so long without any credit. I’m glad that the hip-hop community really championed him when seemingly nobody else would, absolutely loves him, think he’s a genius

Oh my gosh, absolutely genius, he is one of the best business minds of our generation I think. Not everything he does is going to work, and that’s what makes him so genius, I hope he stays in business for a long time
However they lack quality. People buy them just to say they have one. He is winning due to consumerism. He found a niche. There’s better quality by black designers, around the same price point, and more creative.

another great video I really love your channel!! telfar is really incredible as far as attainable fashion because you see celebs and non celebs using his bags all the time because they just have such a good classic look. idk if youre interested in recommendations but i think jeremy scott would be a good person to cover.
I totally agree, Telfar has genuinely managed to do the ubiquitous, accessible brand that retains its value where so many others have failed, its very impressive. I adore Jeremy Scott, Ive been a fan of his for a long time, Id definitely love to cover his mainline as well as Moschino because they both have such interesting stories

You use the word “depredation” which means to rob or plunder, and I think you actually meant to use “deprivation”.
Also, you use the word “infamous” which means to have a very bad reputation, but from the context I think you actually meant to use “famous”.
I went back to check my script, I had depravity written, so I guess I just misspoke, but youre so right about infamous, i thought it was notirious/famous/with reputation, but not inherently negative. Turns out i was wrong, so thank you for that

There are many things that make a product of luxury, scarcity as one, perception is another, wuantity or quality too, you could definitely argue that this is a luxury. But also, on the same vein, you see more people with the Louis Vuitton monogram, that’s also made of plastic (vegan leather), probably costs about the same to make as a Telfar bag, but it’s sold for significantly more profit, I think you’ve considered one as a luxury good, then so is the other.
