  • Red Clay Sound Haus is taking part in a two-year fellowship at Audium to engage with the limits of sound, space, and architecture. The multi-medium, multi-site project explores the Sound of Black San Francisco, with four thematic directives, land, love, labor, and legacy. The collective will present their work-in-progress, “Magnolia Mojo,” during a limited, six-show series at Audium, June 20-29, 2024.
Red Clay Sound Haus (RCSH), created by Tossie Long, explores architectural sites as instruments- contemplating human living patterns, sound, memory, and ritual. The project is rooted in the legacy of one of San Francisco’s prominent builders, Andy Brothers Contracting, a Black, family-owned general contracting and cement masonry business founded by Alva and Inez Anderson (c.1951). RCSH weaves through sites that Andy Brothers Contracting owned and built, reconstructing an ancestral mythology echoing the sound of Black San Francisco.
