How is it with baggage allowance? Besides 1x7kg carry on luggage, is it possible to have a backpack? What would they do in case of duty free shopping bag? (Planning to buy some duty free stuff) - is this in the limit and they dont care?

Only to USA but 777 does fly to Canada
ETIHAD Boeing 787-9 and 787-10 Dreamliner can fly into the United States, separately.

AUH is the worst airport I’ve ever transited in. Very poor choice of food corners and shopping spots, and limited seating areas. It may be a stressing experience if your connection exceedes two hours. I was really looking forward to boarding the aircraft and this is unusual for me, since I like sparing time in the airports. One of the key-assets for a global airline (as Etihad claims to be) is its hub: if its services and facilities don’t meet passengers expectations, this represents a serious competitive downfall
As of November 2023, They actually opened a new terminal. You can see the new one from 11:06 to 11:15.
