    Thanks for posting. I was at 9am. My hubby was supposed to do it with me but hurt his back last week. I was by myself. It was nice to show him your video.

    The fastest time at this race was 40 minutes (which is insane!). Our team time was 1 hr 11 minutes. This course was only 4 miles long (but A TON of obstacles). Most mud runs, like the Warrior Dash, are around 5K (about 3 miles).
    The longer challenges, like the Tough Mudder or Spartan Beast, can be upwards of 12 miles with an obstacle every 1/2 mile. Those hurt like crazy. Unless you train big time for those, cramped muscles galore!
    All the best,
    -Beau Ch.

    Signed up for my first Spartan for next year... awesome video! Getting me pumped for it already!

  • @Chevassus
    @Chevassus 11 років тому

    Aw, that's a good idea. Did you immediately slip off the wall (scaling the wall sideways) due to all the slick mud that had built up? I hope they hosed it off part-way through the day, because we were the 8:30am heat (at the very beginning of the day!), and it was virtually impossible to grip!
    But oh well; 30 burbees were needed because my abs were getting hungry for pain.

    very nice video, nice job. This was my first mud race I have done. Nice to see it in replay! Agreed, that uphill crawl was the toughest obstacle! I had to lay flat a few times to get full contact with the ground to keep from sliding a few times....

    Absolutely. At several points I had to reach up and pull myself uphill with nothing but my fingertips (because they were the only things that had traction on the slipperyness).

    this was my first mud run. Sunday 12:00 heat. this was a blast to do. Yes, we found if you take a big handful of mud and slap it down, it works like a handhold to get grip on that hill. that hill wore me out.

    Aw, you're too kind. ;)
    If you're familiar with my other race videos (Tough Mudder and Warrior Dash) we seem to--at some point in the race--talk about movies. It's to keep our mind off the incredible pain. In this race I was REALLY breathing hard. It was difficult to chat. :(

    If you go on Amazon and search "CAT017416J" that's the model # of the gloves I had. I wore them also in the Tough Mudder, and they're very low-profile, comfortable, and cheap. I think they're designed for plumbers. (i.e. incredibly grippy.)

    Even worse. I made it 3/4 of the way there before slipping, so close! I don't think that thing ever was cleaned off, and I did it on Sunday starting at 10:45, so it had seen a lot of action before me.
    That even and the Spartan throw were my burpee-inducing events, but still had a blast!

    I gotta ask BeauCh how do you train for one of these? I was thinking of doing a lot of calisthenics and free running to boost my stamina and get used to my bodyweight.

    • @Chevassus
      @Chevassus 10 років тому

      While you can walk them at your own pace (even seeing a 300lb guy plowing through it, which was awesome), however of the obstacle courses I've diligently trained for I've enjoyed those wildly more. Primarily because you get somewhat depressed walking the whole thing (when you should be running!) and skipping an obstacle because I'm not strong enough to get over it is also depressing. Overall being fit means you can do more--not just in these mud runs but life in general!
      Handy dandy tip: Do pullups! Upper body stamina is important! Try to get up to 15-20 full pullups! (easy for some but an Everest for others)
      All the best,
      -Beau Ch.

    • @joshuacampagna1175
      @joshuacampagna1175 10 років тому

      BeauCh Thank you so much for the reply! I have no intention of ever walking the whole course, (seems pointless to sign up for a mud/spartan run if I can't do it lol) but in terms of getting ready for such an event your suggestion is pullups? Anything else you do for it? I have big plans for 2014 and this is one of them. :)

    • @Chevassus
      @Chevassus 10 років тому

      Run! Run! Run! :) Also get some grippy gloves, cover your elbows (for crawling, unless you want to go shirtless like a lot of Spartan peeps do... aaaand they get all scraped up), cover your knees too! And run with friends would be my humble suggestion. ;) The social part of it is awesome.
      Other than those suggestions (which aren't even make-or-break 'rules' or anything), sign up early to get a discount and also encourage yourself to do it (or you never will if you put off signing up!). Hope that helps.
      All the best,
      -Beau Ch.

    Some (smarter) people were taking globs of mud and slapping them down in front of them to form handholds. Wish I thought of that earlier!
    By the time I did it, it was a gridlock and people were climbing all over each other lol

      +quiet storm From my experience, a Tough Mudder seems a lot more social and better comradery; whereas, I had a much lesser sense if any at all of comradery during the recent Spartan race I did a couple days ago. The obstacles are also much less physically demanding in a Tough Mudder. Being of competitive nature but also liking the social aspect, I like doing both.

    • @quietstorm6710
      @quietstorm6710 9 років тому

      Thank you for responding. I'll stick to the tough mudder. The Spartan race is more my son's thing. I liked the comradery I experienced. It was amazing. And in the midst of so much that's wrong with the world, it made my heart soar at the support.
      Having said that. Good job. And that's awesome that you do both.
