- North Carolina Central University’s Sound Machine takes on Morgan State University’s Magnificent Marching Machine in a 5th Quarter battle 🦾🦾.

NCCU is developing this aggressive but robust sound that I haven’t heard bands play with in so long. Like it gives power and it compliments each section, I hear the Band Director vision over there, students and staff doin a great job!
That No Letting Go put me in my feelings a little bit 😂 NCCU has had some fantastic song selection this year so far! Shoutout to the staff and students! They lead the dance and never let Morgan figure out a good strategy and that was perfectly done. Didn’t need to play more than four.

First! Kudos to both band directors! The MEAC is thriving again and I think we are seeing the rebirth of a new culture!
The balance in size, the push of blend and musical character! And the ARRANGEMENTS! Pristine!
Now, for the battle….I gotta give it to NCCU!
Both bands sound even so what I’m listening for is quality control and stamina!
NCCU had a fuller sound all the way through across its sections and I never got that one or two random person blaring to keep the sound going.
NCCU has a very full brass section mainly in its tuba and trombone with the mellos and euphoniums starting to figure out their own! Trumpets need to be the focus, but for what they did it was very good, not trying to do to much but very compact and full! Woodwinds have beautiful color!
Morgan! I like your work! The arrangements might’ve been too long for you all. It would be at the beginning of each song where you would capture my attention but lose me because sections would gradually fade out…trumpets held you down but they would fade first…BUT very good sound nonetheless
But overall…NCCU 3 Morgan 1

Morgan State with these Middle School arrangements. It’s literally just whatever the song does.
NCCU with the W overall. They were a little more mature for my liking.
I was trying to figure out what was “wrong” and I guess your right. The band sounds pretty good but I think it’s the arrangements holding them back.
The arrangements don’t allow creativity nor power. But I’d say NCCU has the same issue. No clear winner here.
NCCU sounds very clear and their present is on point. NCCU wins this one 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Both bands are equally marched in size and volume. NCCU however has a much clearer and cleaner sound, and more of an interesting song selection. An NCCU win .

Song selection and pacing matter!
My thoughts: I love the sound profile both are going for. The “on my mama” battle was intriguing cause each arrangement fit each band. I love nccu song selection. One of the more energetic/diverse bands in the meac! MSU has a good foundation to work on. I think the next step in y’all development is to work on filling up the horns. Imo the difference between nccu and msu is you feel nccu energy and effort more. But msu is crispy and clean they just pack a little less punch. Nccu gets the win here but I will say msu study this battle cause y’all can use this as a map for success first couple of rounds was really nice and had potential to keep up with what nccu was presenting….. lowkey it could’ve maybe been a tie with better song selection by nsu in rounds 3 n 4 but nccu took a clear win.

Great job to both bands. They almost have the same style.
NCCU with the win here Morgan had horrible excursion on the 2nd song baritones all off , I've heard better from them
As a Norfolk State Alum, great job MSU. From drumline to the Foxxys you can see business being handled. When you look at MSU you see their style and precision in each of their movements. In my opinion looking at NCCU dance ladies lack that, quite frankly. Seems like retention is a big issue for this team. Weak-links all over… some of those ladies should not be dancing and certainly the moves would be much clearer and not murky. Fix that and you all might have a team. Other than that great song selection from NCCU.

The first note on the 3rd song I think for Morgan was just awful

If NCCU played the first song…it means they are leading the battle…so Morgan State where you are from responds to whatever NCCU plays…
So since NCCU played the first song of that round…Morgan SHOULD HAVE played a slow song 😂
But they suck…so I’m sure it would’ve been trash either way
Why are both bands on the visiting side ?
No clue, we marched in and they were sitting where we were supposed to be placed 🤷🏽♂️. So we just went where we were told.
Probably because of the televised game. The camera usually shoots onto the visitors side so you put the band and student section to have a good showing on tv.
Athletics has had us sitting over there all season. Whatever the reason why is beyond my knowldge.
MSU Trumpet player here, we have no idea…
same ish at DSU makes no sense at all. Just taking away from the band culture of bands sitting across the field from each other

morgan for the win in my opinion, nccu had some great song selection though!
