As a man who has lived nearly 50 years, practicing the faith his whole life, and learning to pray deeper every day I can say that I have never "encountered JESUS personally". I have never had heard HIS voice outside of the Gospel. I have never had a mystic moment.
That may sound sad but, no apparition, miracle, nor scandal has yet ever swayed my faith one way or another.

      😊😂 You're funny, Damien!
Jesus talks to us in different ways. There's no need to see an apparition or a ghost of any kind. Sometimes, we encounter Jesus in a total stranger who performs an act of kindness, someone who shows up at the right place and the right time.
If we pray and believe, Jesus will manifest himself in extraordinary ways. I have experienced His presence and His love several times. He's been there for me when I have been in dangerous situations, more than once.

We have a charismatic group in our big Catholic Church here which they push hard for people to join. After much prayer and after meeting with them many times in the past, I have decided that the Holy Spirit moves in many ways in different types of people. I’m much more quiet and love to sit in Adoration. The Holy Spirit is still big in my life and quietly leads me and teaches me. It’s a quieter path but has filled me to the brim. Not all of us have to go to big happy groups to be filled.

    • @katieann1908

Yes, I’ve traveled extensively with different Catholic groups around the world, and across Canada with NET Ministries of Canada. My wife and I now have 5 kids, and although we’ve both been around a lot of Charismatic movements- we don’t truly identify as belonging in that environment. If I go to any of these types of events now, it’s simply to have adoration and confession as that is unfortunately rare in the small town we are in.
There are many ‘Charisms’ within Catholics, and our family is much more contemplative. I CRAVE silent adoration (at least an hour of silence)- and unfortunately at most charismatic events, we’re lucky to get even 30 seconds… and I’m talking about a recent event that was 3 hours long. People need to learn to sit in some measure of silence between just them and God.
I’ve noticed that over the years, a lot of truly charismatic people are genuinely extroverted people who are filled with energy by being around other people, while many of us introverts come away from these events truly feeling drained of all energy. Just shows that there is room for different people within the Church, but not to try to force ones personal preferences for worship on others….

    • @valwhelan3533
      @valwhelan3533 Місяць тому +14

@@Prohortico Yes, I have noticed the same re extroverts/introverts. As a convert from protestantism, I much prefer silence and adoration than emotionally-charged praise-type worship situations. I desire, rather, a quiet deepening in my love for our Lord and a ripening of the fruits of the Holy Spirit in my life - not necessarily talking in tongues or other outward manifestations. Just my two cents.

Time and place for everything, and I guess some of us need more peace and quiet to feel the Holy Spirit. Our charismatic group here is wonderful but the music is just a tad too loud for me (this coming from someone who loves blasting metal music in the car)

Read some comments here and as Catholics, I think its both-and. Both Charismatic and Traditional merged together and not separate from each other. One could call it tradismatic, or simply Catholic. Thats what the lives of the saints teach us as well. Ofcourse, not everyone is called to live lives in the same way, but that is exactly why we have different Catholic ways of following our Lord Jesus. Its absolutely beautiful. And definitely recommend the interview of Gabi on Matt Fradd's channel. God Bless You all!

Blessed Mother Angelica from a little town in Canton Ohio. Home of the NFL Hall of Fame.
Mother Angelica deserves to be in the Hall of Fame of the Catholic Church.
If you get a chance visit the place where Mother Angelica was taught the rosary by a very sick Servant of God Rhoda Wise who healed Mother Angelica from stomach ailments that changed her life and she never looked back.
We visited last summer a holy site where Pope Francis declared her Servant of God a mystic.
Rhoda Wise had visitations by St Theresa of Lisieux.
We bought 5 bottles of holy water there still use everyday since last summer.
God Bless and anyone who desires God desires the holy spirit with a contrite heart will find him but as they say love is patience and kindness meaning sometimes we have to wait for God to act.
Lord show us your faced and we will be saved.
The Lord's hidden face is in the Eucharist.
    Lord show us your divine love and mercy in the morning;

I was a Charismatic Catholic for years and was always umcomfortable with the pressure to feel, think, speak, act, and react in a certain narrow way that was supposed to be the way for all those anointed and baptized in the Holy Spirit. The 2,000 years of 10,000 canonized True Saints proves otherwise, as they are all so different while united in unchanging Truth.
That's the crux of the matter, the Holy Spirit elevates the totally unique individuality of every person without violating it or pressuring it to be a certain way and without making emotions a discernment tool for what is truly Catholic and what is not. The silence and, infinitely worse, the complicity of most Charismatics at today's corruption, heresies and distortions of True Catholic Teaching tells me that that "baptism of the Holy Spirit" did next to nothing. They supposedly burn in fire, but it is the fire of the self-pleasuring, self-centering "Holy Spirit" while the True Catholic Church is being burned to the ground.

That truly is a shame. Remember Pentecost ? The birth of the Church. How did it come about?
      I would say charismatically....
The preaching of the Gospel... signs and wonders.... healing and deliverance, praying in tongues, etc.
This is an aspect of the Church that needs to be rediscovered in our times, the power of the Holy Spirit, or we will have an impotent Church.....
The Church was charismatic from its infancy.... it is how it needs to be now! No Holy Spirit power and it won't be effective.
Just my opinion ... I couldn't do without an experiential relationship with the Trinity.... why a boring, bland, relationship, a safe, keep God at a distance kind of deal.
To judge the charismatic gifts without experiencing them.... or God the Holy Spirit who is in them.... and is active and powerful through them....I think that's sad.
My life would be kind of empty and sad, sadder for not living it fully alive...a life lived in union with God.... that's what I want!
I used to be a Carthusian monk, the toughest order in the Catholic Church.... and in contemplation and in tongues you encounter one and the same Spirit! It is all Him! He Himself is the Gift of Gifts !!!
The Saints were all ardent lovers of God... love God ardently and see where that takes you in your relationship with Him!
The Cross was all or nothing for Christ .... we should love Him back the same way.... all our nothing....
      Blessings on your day!

The ultimate goal of spiritual gifts is love.
1 Cor 13:13; 14:1: "And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love. Pursue love and strive for the spiritual gifts, and especially that you may prophesy."
I have witnessed people that have the gift of prophecy and healing. Those people have a great love for people and didn't seek their own gratification in using their gifts. I think the Holy Spirit in today's church is so inactive with its gifts, because we really don't want to love each other and try to live out our faith by our own measures and standards without yielding our lives to God. God is eagerly waiting for us to strengthen our faith so we could work miracles, but we are content by ourselves and prefer the idea of God rather than the real living God and hence we get nothing.

We're not supposed to ask to receive these gifts that entire idea of baptism of the Holy Spirit comes from protestanism. There is one baptism that we have as a sacrament.
Furthermore, the problem with Gabby is that he slandered a priest. In all of his claims about being fired, he tried to say that it was because he asked the priest to do confession more. Not one person asked that priest what really happened. We never bothered to get his perspective. Because what Gabby said was too sensational that it had to be true. Except that it probably wasn't. And even Matt pointed out that maybe it was because he was praying in tongues. Over children when he didn't have the authority to do so.

Why aren't we supposed to ask for the gifts of the Holy Spirit? Can you view cite Scripture and/or Church teaching on that? The only Scriptures I'm aware of are from St. Paul, who discussed at length the response the Faithful are to make in regards the gifts of the Holy Spirit. When I was confirmed in the 1970s, I was taught by the Bishop that we were receiving the gifts of the Holy Spirit in our anointing that day. It's too bad that the people in my life brushed it off as just words without substance, because they didn't want to be holy rollers.

@@kimfleury Receiving confirmation is just that receiving. However, don't confuse that with people that are claiming that they have the supposed gift of tongues and when I use the term supposed. I'm referring to these babbling tongues which have nothing to do with biblical tongues. Father rippinger actually talks extensively on how asking God for these gifts goes against the catechism. And goes against the magisterium. I will recommend that you go and check out those videos if you really wanna know. He actually References the magisterium. The problem is that these protestant ideas are infiltrating. The Catholic Church and these people are more proud about protestanism than they are about Catholicism. You don't see them speak about confirmation and receiving the Holy Spirit the way that they do about speaking in tongues. Or any of that charismatic nonsense.
And for that matter, if Matt truly was following the magisterium, he would have told Gabby to shut app when talking about one of God's priests. Because until we have that other priest in the room and he's able to defend himself. This is all just listening to gossip.

The charismatic movement is Pentecostalism. It has protestant roots. Mother Angelica would have never accepted this. According to Archbishop Fulton Sheen “It is their spirit therefore that is gradually unfolding itself in the Church. That is how we come to a theological knowledge of the three persons, and when we detach the spirit from the Church we are very apt to go awry. There just isn’t any such thing as a charismatic Church.”

@@philalcoceli6328My apologies, your honor. May I present as evidence page 122 from the book “Mother Angelica: The Remarkable Story of a Nun, Her Nerve, and a Network of Miracles” by her friend Raymond Arroyo. “More than a week later, Angelica came down with a cold. To make use of the downtime in her cell, she quietly began reading the Gospel of John. "In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God." As she read, a foreign tongue spilled from her mouth inexplicably. When Sister Regina came to deliver a glass of orange juice, Mother tried to say thank you, but
"something else came out." To cover for the strange speech, Angelica pointed to her throat.
"What's the matter-you got laryngitis? You can't talk?" Sister Regina asked.
      Mother nodded.
Alone again, she attempted to pronounce familiar words. "1 couldn't … I couldn't speak English," Angelica said later.
At least her cold symptoms had dissipated. Venturing outside, she paced between the chapel and the fountains, testing her voice.
"Words came out, but I didn't know what they were," Mother re-called. "It scared me."
Returning to the cloister, Mother Angelica found her native tongue once more. Days later, she telephoned Father DeGrandis.
He snickered when she described her symptoms. "It's nothing. God gave you the gift of tongues," the priest said.
Unsure of what to make of the "gift,"
      Mother Angelica kept it
      private.
Before this charismatic experience, Angelica had never meditated on the Scriptures with any seriousness. She had devoured spiritual writings and the works of the saints, but not the Scriptures per se. "I got initiated into the New Testament through this little experience," she told me. An enthusiasm for the Word overwhelmed Mother Angelica during 1971. It would have serious repercussions in her personal life and forever change her message.”
