TONGBEI practioner myself good to see to practical application shown. through my years of practice notice many that practice their art don't understand how to apply or not taught the fighting aspect of their art. thank you.
I learned this form in one of Shi Guolin's schools in NYC when I was in high school never knowing any of the applications. Thanks for finally satisfying my curiosity.
I have to say, not only is the content incredibly informative, I'm blown away by the quality of the intro, graphics, editing, color grading, music... who's behind all this?
Thank you very much for this video sir. There are very few videos available showing the practical use of Shaolin kung-fu. I love your work and looking forward to seeing more of it. Xie Xie.
Shifu Friend Teacher! Blessings in metta! I thank you in high esteem for your instruction! Your teachings I love! I have this one finished in two weeks or less before shi huan quan! Sadhu sadhu sadhu!
Very cool, I am from Brazil and here kung fu is banalized, I have visited more than 30 kung fu schools, and people without qualification teach this art superficially, teaching only taolu in a robotic way and without teaching their applications, thank you.
Fabricio Vargas This is unfortunately the norm. Most Kungfu schools only teach routines which the teachers expect students to perform with speed, power and accuracy, much like gymnastics, without teaching applications, fighting principles and sparring. When they do teach sparring, it is often a mish mash of kickboxing and other martial arts, but taught in a very haphazard, unprofessional way. The best way to learn real Kungfu is to learn Sanshou or learn traditional Kungfu from a good teacher, which the gentleman performing in this video clearly did. Good luck! 😊
3 years later... which one? & in wich form? i also practice a southern style called ng ga kuen, and these applications give light about some of my moves. We are all martial brothers haha
I just got the complete DVD collection of shao bei Quan from China. I've always been curious about it since I heard of tong bei, assuming they're the same.
Superb work. I better understand why the solar plexus is such an important target in Kung fu (probably works better as a followup technique) and hand grabbing techniques seem more practical now. Looking forward to more videos. You might consider breaking them up into the patterns within the form as shorter videos for easier review.
Very interesting and refreshing I'd say. I was wondering do you compete in fighting maches at all? Are there such videos on line? Thanks for your time.
Amituofo 🙏 Wonderful video How do you suggest that some should practice the form and its applications? And if you know Lian Huan Quan, could you upload it please? Grettins from Mexico
Thank you vey much for this fantastic explanation, demonstration and production quality. As a Police Defensive Tactics Instructor I would I would love to see your empty hand vs. knife defense system. Do you have instructional videos for sale ?
Hello sir ,thank you for sharing youre experience and knowledge with us ,thats really helpful. Can i Ask you how tall you are? Even when youre tall ,youre moving looks elegant and smoothly. It gives me hope with 1,87m achieving such a good Form Too.🙏🏼
Ppl this is not martial arts aka WuShu that is now Southern Gung-fu. This is Northern Shaolin kung-fu. It will not build chi or work in a real fight therefore it is not practically for fighting but exercising bc without chi
With respect, sir, will you please tell us something about the sound you make at the beginning of the video? Does it have a specific meaning or function? Or are you being playful?
I trained shaolin gong fu for 5 years and i can say that he gives good advices but i still think there are too many moves not practical in real life combat. Too much focus on long movements. Jeet kune do is the way to go. All arts have good techniques but its very important to stick to simplicity in terms of application. This is no hatred he rly knows his art! Ps: Shaolin kung fu moves work better when you shorten the range of motion. But to train your body, you practise them long arm, fully extended legs
Er lang shoulders the moutain 6.44 in this technique your arm is longer than him because u are taller than him it would not work on some one of your on hieght
I appreciate your dedication to Shaolin, and I like your videos, but I do have one small problem... Your Chinese needs a bit of work. You're performing "Through the arm fist", but the video clearly has the title written as "Through the back fist". This is a common mistake, as 'arm' (bi4) is sometimes pronounced the same as 'back' (bei4), but the two styles are VERY different both in their applications and training methods (not to mention that Tongbei is much softer and is a much younger style than Tongbi). Fix that and you have a great video!
I NOTICED WITH THE DEMO DONE WITH GEAR ON YOU ARE NOT SHOWING THE FULL APPLICATION AS YOU DETAILED IT. sorta defeats the purpose, but also hurts your credibility to sell ur dvd's too. ijs and edit is in order imho. xie xie
I have used this style sparring an amateur boxer and it works great; the Tong bi quan combos are very surprising against an opponent who only trains 4 punches.

Thank you very much for this video sir. There are very few videos available showing the practical use of Shaolin kung-fu. I love your work and looking forward to seeing more of it. Xie Xie.
That was awesome and well done on every level ! More like this , please ?
Excellent teaching skills
As a Westerner, it is really remarkable and admirable to understand Chinese Kung Fu so deeply and to such a high level.
Great content.

Yeah, it's the same here in the States, it's really hard to find someone that knows the applications.
Your video breaks this form down great! I can't wait to start with the practice of the technique. Blessings in metta!
I love this set! Great stuff!
Nice man, you got a deep understanding
Fantastic🤩🤩👍👍
Very educational, complete with Chinese terminology as well, thank you for sharing. :)
Fantastic!!
打得太好了😮
Enjoyed the video! I would be very interested to see your interpretation and application of Lian Huan Quan if you have a chance.
What's amazing is that Choy Li Fut has moves similar to some in your form. Anyways, I love your stuff. I subscribed!
3 years later... which one? & in wich form? i also practice a southern style called ng ga kuen, and these applications give light about some of my moves. We are all martial brothers haha
Very well done! Keep it going.
I just got the complete DVD collection of shao bei Quan from China. I've always been curious about it since I heard of tong bei, assuming they're the same.
That intro is priceless.
Would you please do an applications video on Beidoquan?

Amituofo 🙏 Wonderful video
How do you suggest that some should practice the form and its applications? And if you know Lian Huan Quan, could you upload it please?
Grettins from Mexico
What kind of conditioning and workouts do you do?
am I wrong or I feel this tao at the beginning was really like a hou quan tao ?
what is that sound at tge start of the video
Where did you learn Shaolin and why does it look more traditional compared to most chinese Shaolin warrior monks?
Very detailed!
Thank you vey much for this fantastic explanation, demonstration and production quality. As a Police Defensive Tactics Instructor I would I would love to see your empty hand vs. knife defense system. Do you have instructional videos for sale ?
George Vranos are you being sarcastic?
Sir please tell us about the life of shaolin martial monks and worriers
Superb Teaching!
Love your style! Who did you study with.... looks like Yang Guiwu lineage? Is it?!
Where can I go to learn this?
what if your opponent hits you when you bring the legs together?
He did explain that the technique does have a trade off.

May I ask,who is in the intro?
Como é q chama essas músicas tradicionais da china? ( Começo do video )
Ppl this is not martial arts aka WuShu that is now Southern Gung-fu. This is Northern Shaolin kung-fu. It will not build chi or work in a real fight therefore it is not practically for fighting but exercising bc without chi
I came sceptic - it is da hong quan - where did you find tong bei here???
Outstanding.
Super technical
Anyone know what the music starting at 23:33 is?
With respect, sir, will you please tell us something about the sound you make at the beginning of the video? Does it have a specific meaning or function? Or are you being playful?
It really does sound like a Chinese version of a Kenshiro (Fist of the North Star) battle cry.
Ditang quan please.
Beautiful
Which set is this? is it one of the Han Tong Tongbi sets? or is it a newer one?
but u still explain other things very well
I'll give to you for understanding the principal, but you need stability between forms, and no more telagraphing. Other than that, you're great
Very cool...
