    Very nicely done. I do peyote tubes for imitation eagle feathers using two drop, but my patterns are far simpler than yours. Very much enjoyed the instructional and hope to expand my repertoire. Appreciate you taking the time to share your knowledge and experience.

    Great video. I'm very new to beading. I find building the grids and patterns oddly satisfying. Also the beauty of the work when it starts to take shape is very motivating. It's like 'wow, *I* created that.'

    Kia ora thanks for that bit of enlightenment about repeating pattern design, however I never did do well with math even though I love math if that makes sense lol. I love your calm demure natural teaching technique with a tad of humour your awesome thanks. I will ward off the headachey feeling I get with math problems to get a solution but however we all need to grow and its time to break my cycle lol I may even grow to love it and sound like a mathematician. I enjoyed your laid back approach so much that I had to subscribe :) I noticed the comment about not selling your work..I have to wonder if it's for the same reason I rarely sell a piece I've made (I find myself giving them away as fast as I make them..hahaha). Looking forward to browsing your collection and finding a bit of inspiration along the way ..There's an old quote that comes to mind as I watch your instruction style..I believe it was attributed to B. Franklin but was in fact borrowed from the Native Americans of the day..“Tell me and I'll forget. Show me, and I may not remember. Involve me, and I'll understand.”

    Hi Van thanks for video just tried this out, had 42 beads on and did the repeat of the flowers on the 6 bead basis, must say looks really good BUT now I don't know where to go next to get the diagonal stripes to match up, but not going to give up I have to get this right because I want to make some beautiful lighter covers like yours. I can't thank you enough for your help really appreciate it. Thank you.

    • @vanirex
      @vanirex  10 років тому +1

      Okay, so just to be clear, you should have gotten 7 'flowers', hope you did. As far as the diagonals go, there's so many different kinds, I usually try to get a 'V' between the flowers, of black, and then the next row I will put my first color in there. Then it's a simple matter to put one color on each side of that first, and then start movin' left (or right) from there.
      I want to urge you again to not just go for a lighter straight out, but to do a practice piece like I showed in the video, using only 12 beads for two rows (6 beads per row), as well as a fairly short string. This will let your mind & body figure this stuff out and avoid crushing your spirit in the process. Good luck and keep me posted, I'll do what I can to help :).

    Are you still beading? You should try to bead around a size 550 or bigger paracord to make a necklace! A lot of us Native Americans do that for lanyards, wristlets and necklaces! 😊 I loved your tutorial.

    Nice video, well explained. Always start small, don't try the monstrous projects as the first one! I think your math is well explained although if you have done peyote before, it's a bit easier to understand what you're talking about with how patterns work. I looked on your video roster and none in the last year. Hope you are doing ok. Keep beading! Great videos!

    how do you bead a bottom for lighter covers? in just doing a simple horizontal stripe rainbow with delica beads they are size 12 so I actually needed 48 of them compared to the seed beads. the seed beads I have are size 10 and just wasn't liking it as much as the delica beads. another reason I did something simple is this is my first time doing tubular even count peyote. I like it.

    • @vanirex

    It looks like you beaded ends together on another video but is there a way or need to go from 12 (two rows of six) to more of a point and then add the clasp.

    Please please PLEASE tell me how you bead around a curved edge like at the bottom of the tubular red yellow black and white piece you showed at the end of the video. I know it involves a decrease, can you do a video on that? Your decrease is so neat and you even have the yellow pattern at the bottom of it. I’ve tried about twenty times and I’m missing something still. I’m begging you! Thanks

    • @vanirex
      @vanirex  7 років тому

      Look around youtube for flat circular peyote. You'd build that piece out until it's the same size (row count) as your tubular peyote component, and then stitch them together. In the case of the three stick covers I built, I actuall started building out flat and then switched to tubular so it's all one piece.ua-cam.com/video/9QyAdGQHjFw/v-deo.html for example.

    • @nursepunkie9354
      @nursepunkie9354 7 років тому +1

      VaniRex thank so much! I tried myself with the flat peyote but can never get it as neat as you do I have to try with delicas they are much more uniform. Also I tried connecting tubular and circular flat it worked but looked like two pieces attached ya know lol . I didn’t think to flow from one to another I will definitely test that out. How did I not think of that? Lol I appreciate your swift feedback! ✌🏽Happy beading.

    When you say a 4 pattern or a 6...what do you mean? Do you put a different color bead in every fourth spot? I have been trying to figure this out with lots of frustration...I've done small tubular designs before, but I've always used graph paper but once I start trying to get fancy, it never seems to come out right. I was trying to follow along, but you don't really explain that part...please help! lol I'm trying to get a piece done for a pow wow

  • @LisaWilson
    @LisaWilson 9 років тому +1

    Van how long did it take you in the beginning to get peyote stitch right? Once you have the stitch down all it takes is making patterns correct?

    • @vanirex
      @vanirex  9 років тому +3

      Lisa Wilson Well, I jumped right to tubular peyote and never looked back. I felt it was the beading technique I'd known all my life. It seems to combine everything I enjoy doing, I wish I got to do it more. Patterns are always correct. You did it, didn't you? There you go. Understand your mistakes, learn, and go for the next. See what rolls out from within. That's all.

    • @vanirex
      @vanirex  9 років тому +1

      I'm out in South Dakota on retreat, don't have a lot of time for beadin' :). However, why don't you check out ua-cam.com/video/06bs8YVCOYI/v-deo.htmlm0s. In all the times I've 'closed off' tubular peyote, it's really always been backwards, because I've STARTED with flat circular and then switched to tubular when it got wide enough. Also, if ya search around for 'flat circular peyote' you should find some videos that'll help ya. I'll put this one on my bucket list, so keep a lookout, cuz once I finish up out here in SD & get back to Oregon I'm gonna do a bunch of stuff. Thanks for asking, good luck, and hope you take the time to show me your stuff, someday.

      VaniRex the mat your calling a felt mat,, its called a beading matt , just for the reasons of the beads don't go fling off the bead matt, lol you do some really nice work, I need to have you for a teacher! I use delica beads, size 11/0 keep up the great work you do, any really easier patterns that you can throw my way would be great . :)

    • @vanirex
      @vanirex  9 років тому

      Leah Mondloch Hey thanks -- I do what I can. I get that 'hey, know any great patterns' a lot; I'm not sure what to do. My goal is to really help others to find the patterns within themselves, not simply parrot what I do. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it's the difference between teaching someone to sing a song vs. teaching them how to create their OWN songs...Feel free to use any of the patterns I present, and if you see a specific one you like, maybe we can work something out. I'm kinda super busy at the moment, but like to help where I can. Happy beading!

      VaniRex your work is crazy amazing- I hope I become as good as you someday! I’m working on it- but I’m trying a flag- just wondering if you had ever done one. Have a great day bead wizard!

    I am never going to learn this :( What am I doing wrong? you say skip one, and then you have only 5 beads on, in the first row?? I just can't figure it out :( pls. help

    • @vanirex
      @vanirex  9 років тому +3

      +DKStella Give ua-cam.com/video/T78_eotLUdY/v-deo.html a shot, and see if that doesn't answer your questions. I totally understand the pain and suffering you're going through! However, it doesn't last long at all, once you get a few successful rows down, and that tube starts to form, you're gonna just go, "Hell yeah!" There are also a few other tutorials out there, if my 'teaching' style sucks.
      Keep me posted, and if you need more help, let me know, I'll do what I can.

      I'm familiar with the general look of the fkag, but unsure of specific problem. Any rectangular object is not going tob look as good with peyote, though. You might want to look at square looming, instead. If possible, gimme a link to a pic or something, I'll so what I can.
