    Hi Christina....love the piece🙌🏻 I am especially loving you showing us blending colors with a stencil....results are amazing😍 I would like to have seen a side by side of your initial stencil and how it changed....I could definitely tell a difference....it was a WOW second time around!! Was great to see you using an IOD transfer on top.....I am not an expert but have watched many videos on using the transfers....you were lucky ( or skilled I should say) cutting transfer without backing when you cut top half in two....they can easily fold over on one another if not careful. IOD makes stamps and transfers...you were using them interchangeably.....burnishing transfer down after application important ....making sure all bits are down good before top coat....your transfer turned out perfect🙌🏻 the dark wax was a nice touch🌟 you can also lightly sand the transfer for aging effect....then wax! I have got to get that Wooster tool I love the way it blends. Just so you know I love your videos and instruction I wasn’t being critical only meant to be helpful....as always thank you for sharing😊k

      Kimberly Drake ... Thank you so much Kimberly for your sweet words and comment 🤗💙
      Also I appreciate the tip you mentioned about sanding the transfers for a faded aged look! I did not know that 😉💙
      Definitely going to use more of them in the future! They do make a fantastic added touch to furniture pieces and even glass windows on cabinets too!
      Working on some new ideas and can’t wait to share them 💙🎨
      I really hope you are safe and healthy both you and your family ❤️

      Awe...thank you Christina for understanding my intent! To clarify burnishing with soft cloth is especially important if you plan to sand ....220 grit would be the lowest to use and wax or topcoat a must for longevity. I watch Jami Ray Vintage a lot for almost 3 years now and if you want to see some windows and mirrors done....her channel would be great to check out. She does mention using on window or mirror is “ off label” use but she and many people in the Facebook group have had no trouble using them.....of course you aren’t able to seal but they are staying on! Debi’s Design Diaries ( owner DIY paint and products) just painted a beautiful old settee sofa with her clay based DIY paint and added transfers to the painted fabric around the sides, back and lower portion front and sealed with her top coat....it’s gorgeous! Again off label but oh so awesome ( I watch a lot of her videos too)! I have purchased many transfers but have not yet used....I’ve been watching tons of videos to keep me busy...I am on my 5th week of strict bedrest because I broke my left foot in a very difficult place to heal....if I do not behave could end u with surgery involving plate and screws😱 I broke my right ankle in November....went to doc...got the good to go on activity and 3 hours later I broke my left foot🙈.....I have lots of furniture, paint, transfers, stamps etc here to keep me busy....I’m hoping this Wednesday I get the okay for some walking....for now I watch 👀! Oh and we gutted our kitchen prior to outbreak! I have lived on a beautiful 6 acre farm for 21 yrs all outbuilding including huge dairy barn have been fixed renovated, etc all rooms in house....so finally the kitchen...I get to see once a week on way to docs....that’s a good thing...Its like Christmas each week lol...I designed that kitchen at least 5 times in the past 10 years...and finally ordered cabinets and windows, etc...it’s really happening and that gives me something to be very happy about! Enjoy your day😊k

    I always like how you put your pieces on paint cans. That really is a great idea! I have paint on my bedroom floor I still need to clean up from not lifting dresser off the floor when I painted it. Also it’s funny how you can look at a piece in thumbnail and think you know what colors were used but then watch and find out they are totally different. That’s so fun! Transfer looks amazing! Love the dark wax idea. Once again another beauty!!👏👏✨

    The dresser veneer wood grain is beautiful. Even though I like your finish on this dresser I feel sorry it was painted over...

    • @TheReclaimedHeirloom
      @TheReclaimedHeirloom  4 роки тому

      ... there is beauty in salvation of wood furniture pieces with restoration and I actually agree with you. This piece unfortunately was in rough condition. The amount of damage I wouldn’t be able to get the wood to pristine condition it may have had originally so that is way I decided to go with a paint finish. I have had pieces that I wouldn’t recommend painting as the wood is gorgeous and to highlight the finish of the wood is a must! The over all dresser was still useable and could be used but the condition was very poor and made the perfect project for a paint finish.
      😉💚

    Hi l so love this, green is my favourite colour, although I’m an artist I most draw and have only recently got into furniture l thank you for the tip about first coat, just helping you place your colours really useful. l think l often spend to much time fussing over the base coat 😂 your toroidal are so well made and easy to understand I have learnt soooooo much from you, thank you sharing your knowledge. Also you have such a great voice I brag about you so much to my creative friends they tease, me saying I have a girl crush 😂😂😂 thanks again inspiring ❤️

      sigourney Ennis ... thank you so much Sigourney or your kind words and feedback 🙏💙💙
      It was definitely something I wanted to make sure to discuss on this project as I know may feel they can not blend but the truth is ... it’s really easy to feel discouraged when you blend your base ( even painting a canvas) you really want to set the small goals of anything you’re creating. I thought 💭 it might help explain better that “no “ base coat will look great especially when you are doing any blending!
      I really want people to feel encouraged and supported because when you create it’s such a beautiful feeling and self reward! Thank you again for your kindness and support 🤗💙💙

      thanks Christina. yes that helps so much! I think it could be any one of the three things you mentioned because I'm painting in a cool room (65 degrees) and the one project is a very old stool with layers and layers of paint. im sure some of them are oil based. im not sure what the frames are made of so they could be MDF or vaneer. so good to know that paint won't adhere to some surfaces. Using primer or better yet a spray laquer when there is a problem is a great tip. I'll know to do that from now on. I'll have to get some along with the glaze, extender and meshing tools that I plan to add to my collection. lol. I feel a lot better now and am not so discouraged. im actually looking forward to picking up my brushes again tomorrow😁. I love 💗your tutorials as they are full of great information and I really, really appreciate all of the support you provide me.

    Beautiful piece!! I do have one question though. When acquiring second hand pieces how do you know if they have been previously waxed? Thanks for all your videos.

    • @TheReclaimedHeirloom
      @TheReclaimedHeirloom  4 роки тому +1

      debbie kazmark ... thank you so much Debbie for your kind words 💙🙏
      I generally assume most second hand pieces have some sort or varnish or wax and if the piece is in rough surface and condition I will put shellac spray on it before I start painting.
      You can always roll on some white primer first too. If a piece is pretty clean ( which I still scrub it) but doesn’t look to badly worn , I generally don’t have any issues with painting with no barrier. If for any reason. ( which can happen ) there is a bleed through, I use the shellac spray to the area ( even with new paint on it) I add some shellac which dries clear and continue on , no issues 😉🎨
      Hope this helps with your question? Thanks so much for watching 🙏🤗

      @TheReclaimedHeirloom  4 роки тому

      Deborah Muir ... hi 👋🏻 Deborah thanks for reaching out to me and your question 😉🎨
      I recommend trying art supply shops and online art supplies and just search for clear glaze or clear glaze medium... it’s a decorative medium use for many types of paint , I am of course using it with chalk paint 🎨 but can be use with other types of paint. If you can’t find water base you can use acrylic base too!
      Hope this helps and if you are still stuck please contact me again and I will try sources and research engines too! Thanks 🙏 so much for watching 🤗🎨

    hi Christina. I'm hoping you can help me figure out what I'm doing wrong. it seems that I remove paint when I'm putting on my second or third coats even though the paint is dry. I'm not even close to doing the blending yet. then to make matters worse, i just waxed a couple of frames that I painted yeaterday and the wax took the paint off😥 I'm stumped because I'm cleaning everything before painting and . letting it dry in between. any ideas? has this ever happened to you?

    • @TheReclaimedHeirloom
      @TheReclaimedHeirloom  4 роки тому +1

      Donna St Jules .. Hi Donna 👋🏻
      Thanks so much for reaching out to me and letting me know this had happened, I have had this happen to me and there a couple reasons ( not your fault at all)
      First one I learned , the temperature climate you are painting in ? If it is to cool the paint has a much harder time to adhere to the surface and until is a bit warmer it might not adhere properly, when I first started out painting pieces I did in my garage and it’s not heated in there so even though it seemed dry I would go apply my second coat and the paint lifted and smeared, I was like what the ???
      The second reason I learned which can happen is ... the surface your painting? Is it MDF with a veneer on it to look like real wood? Or is the vanishing an on the wood a oil base varnish? So learned those two factors can do the same thing as the temperature problem.
      If that being a possibly then I recommend spray some shellac on it! Or just put primer on it because those two issues ( MDF or Veneer or oil varnish) is not allowing the paint to adhere probably... so again it not you at all!!
      Some painters prefer to prime their pieces every time for this but honestly it really doesn’t happen that often and as you create more you pick up on certain things like this and just prime or shellac then ... if my project goes well then I get an area that does exactly what you are asking about ... I just add my shellac spray right then and there and problem resolved 😉🎨
      It’s really just a miner physic’s issue with bonding with surface or product already on the piece ! Waxing ... I have had that happen as well and the same reasons applied to why. Again it’s not an issue most of the time. Unfortunately there are so many pieces with a history to them it’s tricky sometimes but over time you know by looking at a piece what might be a problem and again the shellac will help out even after you already started painting and you can spray the shellac over the paint to stop the problem ( eg oils on the wood or surface etc)
      I hope this helps and please let me know if there is anything else or anything I can help with ... contact me anytime 😉💙💙
      I am happy to help and support in anyway!

Thanks for reaching out and I recommend searching on amazon or another online search engine to look for the “ Wooster pro wool “ or the “water wiz”, it looks like buy the price you wrote you are located in Europe maybe the UK so these products are tricky to find outside of North America but if you can’t source them touch base with me again and I will walk you through the exact materials you can get to make one from the tools I have !😉💙 it’s sheep skin with wool on a plastic handles that is glued into place , the main part to the meshing applicator is the wool so making one really would be easy 👌 I also have a synthetic one ☝️ as well but I will have to some homework ( no problem) and source the materials needed! I hope this helps 🤗💙

    Area? Not a creeper. Just wondering by your slight accent.

      Lynette Johnson ... it’s always interesting to hear where people come from and different accents of influence.

    This was one of the more confusing of your videos. I think the doubling back had me lost. Other than that your videos are awesome.
