One of the first albums purchased by my parents in the 1960s was the 1958 Christmas Album by Johnny Mathis. I was a schoolboy and after a Rolling Stones album, but my parents won on that occasion. I still have the album and will be playing it tonight, Christmas Eve. Reckon my parents made a wise decision on that occasion. Wonderful album and this one is a beautiful carol. Merry Christmas.

Everytime I hear Johnny singing this song I am brought to tears. When I was growing up our home was filled with the sound of his beautiful voice and Christmas was no exception. My parents are long gone now but this song brings back those happy memories of times gone by.

I was born in 1957 and I grew up with Johnny. He was my moms favorite singer. Every Christmas we would listen to Johnny's Christmas music, (an album), while decorating the tree.
There will never EVER be another Johnny Mathis...his was a gift that happens only once in a lifetime.
One of the most underrated singers out there he reminds me of Bocelli a man of class and a voice of pure glisten
He was trained as an opera singer. It's no wonder he can sing these songs like no one else. The most beautiful voice I've ever listened to.
My friend sang this beautiful hymn at our Dad's funeral in August. I know he would have loved it.

I was born in 1959 and the Johnny Mathis Christmas album was the soundtrack for every Christmas I was young enough to believe in Santa and be in awe of the story of the birth of Jesus. A lot of years have past, I no longer believe in Santa, and I don't know about the rest, but the feeling I felt as a child is the exact same when I hear this now.
Now you have to admit though...Andy Williams comes pretty close also!

Johnny Mathis has a better voice range and clarity than Nat King Cole. It's not to say Nat King Cole is a bad singer. But Johnny has the edge.

I first heard this song on his "Merry Christmas" album released in 1958. My father played that album a lot. My sisters and I ( family members having died years ago ) still listen to it every year. So many fond memories listening to Johnny Mathis Christmas music.

Remember hearing this for the first time when my girlfriend and I were eating at a Sonic Drive-In. She and I were both in tears during this version. Back then, you couldn't just pull a song up on youtube or on the computer and hear it whenever you wanted it. You had to wait until it was played on the radio again. The next time we heard it, some friends were in the car with us and you could have heard a pin drop. Still the most beautiful version out there. Johnny's falsetto is like none others.
