  • My bass was sounding horrible, so I had a go at fixing it. Took me a while but eventually figured out what to do!

    i was really sceptical that this would work on my bass output jack, but apparently a good cleaning with distilled vinegar was all it needed. thanks dude

    Glad I found this vid. I disassembled my bass, mainly to shield it, but also to look into a noisy, crackly jack. Took care of the shielding, but didn't think to clean the jack. I didn't think that was my problem. Hooked it up and the crackles were still there. I see now, I'll have to take it apart again and try cleaning inside the jack. Thanks much for the vid 😁

    Couldn't get the nut on my jack to tighten properly, it kept moving around and coming loose. Then I realized it was missing a nut. Thanks for helping with that!

    Thanks for doing this. A wobbly jack can also cause crackling. I recommend tightening the nut as tight as you can. Also, you must have both washers in place (inside and out). I also made sure, after looking at several videos, that the back of the aluminum stem inside the jack is facing toward the bottom of the bass body. In other words, if the bass is on your lap, the back of the stem should be facing the floor. And make sure all wires are safely tucked into the cavity. 😊

    Greetings from Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey & thank you. My jazz bass is doing the same thing so I'll give your method a go.

    OMG that fixed my broken guitar big time. Just some vinegar and a stick to clean your ears. But this time use it on the insides of the output jack socket. Perfect! Thanks!

    Just had the same issue... BUT... the back of the pick guard will have aluminum tape with must make contact with the female adapter. IF the metal tape is damaged at the adapter, use a thin washer first then tighten the outside nut. In my case, it was a cold solder joint and a bad connection on the underside. Works like a charm!

    Yes, it will fix the problem temporarily, but the crackling will come back in 3 months or so depending on the humidity in your are. Some input jack is just not right in production or defective, the jack and socket should be tightly fit in, but some jack happens to be bit loose due to reasons above or prolonged use, corrosion and dirt built up and got you got the cracking sound. Buy a new one, that will fix the problem for longer term.

    noooo, go to the store and buy those extendable round eraser pens. The white eraser. Use that to clean the contacts will clean them without scratching them. 'Pentel Clic Retractable Eraser' Just use a brush to brush away the eraser residue when your done. Dont let if all into the guitar.

    Great clip. Thank you! I prefer to fix my own instruments. Some people do horrendous Jerry rigs. Love the user name on your channel. 😆👊

    Just get Pure Tone jack and forget about bad connection and grounding issues/noises/crackling, plus the sound is better. ..My not humble opinion..because i am really tired of the cheap parts, fixing them and juggling around them instead of practicing and playing (enjoying the instrument)...The stingy pays twice...i think i paid 100 of times... No more: good pickups, good switches, good wires, good jack, good soldering, good cable, good pickups, good amp, good tuners, good strings, good nut, good bridge, good woods, good... Not fancy (it's just another extreme), but good, reliable, satisfactory.

    Nice man ... thanks that vinegar works great and my bass sounds way smoother btw what's the name of that backing track song you used for your video sounds very technoish lol

    • @BradshawInstruments
      @BradshawInstruments  5 років тому +1

      Glad it worked! The backing track is my own instrumental version of Leonard Cohen's "Bird On The Wire" (a nod to the name of the channel!), but in 5/4 time.

      @@mariobass4202 Sure, just stuck it on DropBox for you :) But be warned, I made it as a backing track so it gets pretty repetitive after a while ;) www.dropbox.com/s/fgoyrv4p8p7cxne/birdonthewire54.mp3?dl=0

    I think I would not care for the lingering smell of vinegar. Naphtha also smells bad, but at least it evaporates quickly (though one should work with it outside or in a very well-ventilated area).

    Why vinegar? Would any other weak acid work? What are you trying to remove?

    • @stevenchisari9564
      @stevenchisari9564 2 роки тому +1

      A lot of stuff would or could work, like ipa or maybe lighter fluid. It removes stuff like corrosion or other grime that could be screwing up the connection it makes when the metal makes contact.
