its amazing how techniques have changed in the last 25 years. Bat-lifts are a lot higher, less focus on footwork, more on base and head position and working off the mindset of If not 6, then 4, then 3 then 2, then 1 rather than the other way around. Wonder how the modern batsman would have got on against Warne, McGrath, Akram, Younis, Donald, Walsh, Ambrose, Murali etc.
Probably as well as batsmen in the past. I don’t think they’d dominate but they also won’t fail miserably either. I hate when people say that smith or root would average 10 in the 90s.
To be fair, Nasser Hussain wasn't exactly the Viv Richards of his day(ignore the fact that he is 55 years old)..His strike rate in ODIs is 67 with just 1 hundred which is slow in any era (Gavaskar had 62). We can speculate about how modern batsman would do in the past, but also can speculate how someone like Viv Richards would do in a much more batting friendly era today..Hell, prime Lara would have gone crazy in the IPL, he was so entertaining in tests..
I remember leaving a ball like a proper international test player at my local ground and everyone went like woah , something you can't achieve with sixes. Nasser's shadow leave reminded me of that
@@ashleyvogt3563Nasser was a good player that didn’t fulfil his potential. His 207 in the 1997 against Australia had 38 boundaries which is like a 75 percent boundary percentage. If England weren’t so bad in the 90 s and early 2000s and there wasn’t that much pressure he would have easily averaged 45. He was a great captain in an era where England was always getting flogged by Australia. There is a lot more to Nasser than just pure stats when judging his batting. He is one of the best cricket brains in the world, I’ve heard a lot of cricket experts in my life and Nasser Hussain remains among the top. In the modern era of cricket pundits and commentators Shane Warne and Nasser Hussain were one of the best going around.
@@elwick7375 I was not old enough to follow English cricket then; if you had to summarize the reasons behind England's collapse during that era what would you say they were?
@arvindhmani06 England were on a downslope all throughout the 90s. They were truly a sorry side. One English politician announced once that for future immigrants to get citizenship they would have to support the English cricket team and the idea was laughed at because even English people didn't support their team they were that bad. The change came after the 2005 ashes and since then they've been decent.
Lol🤣🤣🤣, I can relate , per my experience you need proper technique, bat swing, muscle to hit sixes, and if you have not hit in your teen age it's difficult to get it at once. Players who have been playing along the ground even in international level won't be able to hit, kaif, mongia, laxman, Salim javed, amla are examples
Agree but Amla did transform himself from a sedate classical test batsman to the premier ODi batsman..He was no devilliers but comfortably leads this group in terms of sixes hit in ODIs (53)
Bairstow looks quite lean in this video. Samit Patel was dropped by England for not sticking to a weight loss program if I recall correctly, whilst Bairstow seems to have been given a free pass. Who am I to judge but it looks to be symptomatic of the allegations levelled at his home county,
Nasser was never that great at hitting sixes even a quarter of a century ago. But he was a damn fine player. And although he must be 55 now, he still looks every bit as trim as he was in his pomp.

but he was pretty so-so in the IPL
not a dig at sehwag in any way, neither Lara

Love Nas but couldn't stop laughing when he was c+b Thorpe😂
Lol!!
never seen Johnny smile so much. love it.
RIP graham. Tons of talent. Top guy and will be very sadly missed
Johnny looks unrecognisable!
Thought the same, he's filled out for sure.
Techniques have changed so much, hardly anyone is "bat down" anymore, even guys like Khawaja mix between down and up.
Nasser Hussain out of all the ex-players for Six hitting contest!! I will be surprised if he can hit even one in 2 overs 😛
Who's Jonny Bairstow? I only see Jonny Walker.
Keep walking!
RIP Thorpe
No stumps? Johnny has probably already been stumped before they started filming I suppose.
The bold Graham Thorpe, love that guy!!! Who else had higher average for England when he was playing?
Nasser was a really good player, love to see Johnny play Warne and mcgrath.

Nas is too old now and not physically strong enough to clear the boundary and that's all it comes down too.
They should have had Nasser use Jonny's biggest bat, and Jonny use one of Nasser's bats from 1998
It’s the nas bash channel
But but why does Bairstow not go back to the crease 😂
Cause all balls are legitimate here
Caught n bowled in a six hitting contest?? What??
Y that poor guy is getting embarrassed all the time
why is jonny wearing keeping pads?? hahah
now do a "stay in the crease challenge".
Hussain and arthetom are never known for 6 hitting

maybe get bairstow to try and get a at least 5 out of 6 catches never mind sixes
Nasser is still the cool batter
thorpe was a nudger and nurdler himself

Age catch with everyone
Nas wouldn't have hit more than 2 sixes in his prime. It was always a lost battle against Johnny 😂.
I never rated Hussain
Red ball Naz
White Johnie
Leng
Whem bairstow is telling Nas about technique he looked like Harry brooks
Thats what age do to you
bs. its for fun. i wouldnt be surprised if nas deliberately didnt hit it.
Nasser can’t even hit a six bit embarrassing as an ex pro who played One Dayers
it's for fun. Don't take it seriously.
Maybe for fun but still can’t hit a 6
Nassee hussain is a waste anyways
I started watching cricket as a kid during Nassers final few series as captain. Love him now as commentator but damn I hated him as a batsman.
jonny walker with the iq of 2
