Just found your channel! Love it. The rusting impeller definitely killed your coral. I had a small digital thermometer fall in my sump for a few hours and the battery started leaking before I found it. I don’t have much because I just started but everything I have coral wise was closed and wouldn’t open. I did huge water changes and ran carbon and chemi pure for a week while changing water every couple days. Knock on wood no coral death and 2 weeks later everything starting to open back up.
I had one of those skimmers, RO Diablo. The neck on these skimmers is way to wide for the amount of air the Sicce 600 puts out. Thankfully manufacturers have gotten away from the wide neck trend. I "upgraded" to a smaller skimmer, smaller neck and it pulled way more than the RO skimmer. The Sicce is a solid pump though, I've heard the magnets can swell when removing them and letting them dry out, then putting them back in service.
That's definitely what could have happened to mine. Im pretty happy with the skimmer though, you just have to dial it in then it pulls a ton of crap out of the water.
Hey buddy. I am positive the corrosion was the main cause of your coral problems. I made a horrible mistake in my tank too. I stupidly used copper wires to hold a plastic piece in my overflow. The copper rusted in a couple of days and that corrosion released in the tank killed many of my corals. Still on recovery stage due to my mistake. In general any metal corrosion in a reef tank is a huge problem
WOW interesting, I really appreciate the feedback! This helps me be convinced this was the problem, cause its the only logical thing that explains it. That sucks man sorry to hear.... I will be bringing this tank back to life soon.
Do you still have any invertebrates left in the tank cuz I’m pretty sure copper corrosion will effect all the invertebrates like crustaceans and mollusks
Master Gecko 117 I have lost a cleaner shrimp and some snails. Hermit crabs still alive. But I did a whole week of 20% daily water change. I’m still doing water changes like every Saturday. No more deaths right now. But I’m not introducing any other animal until corals get most recovered.
Hippos, puffers, and triggers will bother corals. Puffers pick at hard things and triggers do as well. Hippos as they grow just flat out browse on polyps. Triggers drop substrate and move things too.
Id have to disagree honestly. Blue jaw triggers are completely coral safe and thats proven, mine also doesn't move anything around or even bother inverts. I have never had a problem with my pufferfish before. He really keeps to himself and doesn't really want to have anything to do with anything else. I've also never heard of hippo tang ever eating corals before. Not sure were you heard that one.
There is no doubt the corrosion of metal leaching into the water is bad and most definitely atleast contributed to the problem if not was the only cause of the problem which is more than likely the case. I am always inspecting equipment on a weekly basis because of the possibility of this. By problem I mean the corals dieing. As for the stuff on your sandbed, that looks like some type of bacteria or algae bloom which can be caused by a litany of things. Your whole system has changed while not running the skimmer. I would say to check your paramaters and keep an eye on the PH with the skimmer not running. Ask yourself if you had the bacterial/algae problem before your skimmer went down with that issue. Has lack of flow ever been an issue for you in the tank with regards to algae or bacteria?
Thanks a lot for all the info!! Much appreciated. The bacterial on the sand seem to have progressed as the pump got louder honestly. Lack of flow has never been an issue though, Skimmer was down for 4 days, the pH moved a little but nothing crazy. Its back up to par with the skimmer running now though, and the bacteria has gone down on the sand bed after doing a few water changes.
If corals "die" they can revive in some time, the right way is just to check on your water quality and temperature. Those are the 2 facts to consider since I've lost about 800eur worth corals few years ago when I was on vacation. It was a nightmare when the temperature was rising and the watercooler didn't work correctly because of one crapy thermostat worth 10eur. I wish you best luck in the future!
Hey bud first time viewer and new subscriber.but the stuff on the sand bed might be dinoflagelets.i hope not but if your No3 and po4 are undetectable you may have dinoflagelets.good luck!
Heavy metals kill corals in trace amounts, fish not so much until it gets really toxic. Copper treats ich in fish and wipes out inverts in minute amounts. Cuprisorb and carbon, run ICP test. You need to clean and inspect pumps/equipment at least quarterly preferably monthly to make sure saltwater corrosion is not slowly poisoning your reef.
Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated. I usually keep up with maintenance but being in school and away from home is hard, but now i'm back for a long time and i'm gonna be bringing this tank back to life!!
I'm guessing that could have killed the corals. Glad you found something. Consider an icp test to see if you have more metals in the water, might need to do some water changes to get the tank back in order

Nice man you caught it right on time, I wasnt that lucky sadly. Thanks for the support!

Does the Puffer not eat the corals / Inverts?
Nope he has never touched any of them. Doesn't even target the shrimp. Keep a lookout for a care guide and more info on that puffer.

Its possible for sure, cause that stuff is pretty hard to get rid of that for sure, and my nutrients are low.

Fish all look great. Think you may be right about the cause of the coral decay. Your videos are so informative to others. Keep up the great videos.
Thank you!!
Puffer killed my coral watch ep 123 you’ll see
I guess we will.
I had the same problem, my skimmer pump fry and kill all my corals and fish when I get home from work
Dang thats terrible, im glad mine wasnt that bad.
rust gives copper too, which could be what killed your tank. sand algae could be silicate from your RODI unit being in need of resin replacement.
get cuprisorb from seachem to suck up heavy metals. and water changes with good water.
That's true i've been needing to replace those filters.
Thanks for the info, will do!!
Merci pour ta vidéo !!! 👍👍👍
Could of definitely killed corals hard corals for sure
Im convinced now that that is the probable cause. Thanks for the feedback.

Yup, gonna go full force on this tank this weekend, I should have a video coming out on it in the coming weeks!!
@@EagleAquatics hope all is well with the covid BS around you. Hope you're safe and have plenty of TP!!
Lol you feel the same that I do. Its bunch of BS IMO. But what do I know. And i'm not one of the fools that hoarded all of these unnecessary supplies.
@@EagleAquatics I think people forget the power of a shower lol... fortunately we reefers have rodi units so water is not an issue
Hahaha your right, thats hilarious.
Just subscribed 💪
Appreciated!
“What is going on guys?” Isn’t that off BrettO Live? By the way you and Brett sound the same!
We both have channels.
Ok. Also I didn’t mean to sound rude I’m a huge fan of both of you. Do you know Brett?
He is my brother.
I thought his brother was NFL Talkshow?
We are all brothers.
Nice content 👍
Get a icp test or use triton detox I used it twice before it works and is reef safe to remove heavy metals iron tin an vanadium.
Corals can die from the PH drop from the skimmer not running.
Thanks you!!
Im gonna look into that, i've never heard of triton detox before. Thanks for the info.
Yah that true, but all the death happened before I took out the skimmer, it was only out for 4 days.
