They all say the same thing: he’s absolutely the real deal. Love that dude. So sorry that the Newsted thing kinda came undone because of some management misfortunes and never really recovered. He’s an OG. Staple of my childhood Metallica experience.

Metallica is still great to this day but in my opinion they lost some of the flame of their fire when Jason left they band. He's a beast on a bass, a hell of a backing vocalist and singing main vocal holy sh!t I could go on for days.
Jason was a good live show performer but he is not as skilled as Rob on bass. Look at the timeline, the worst time on Metallica was when Jason was in the band.

What was he doing 15 years ago that inspired you to play? When I was 5 in 1983 I had gotten kill em all through Colombia house. Listened to Metallica and black sabbath and judas priest everyday for a few years until I decided I wanted to play bass like cliff burton. I got a bass for 5$ at a yardsale that had no strings so I put weedeater wire on it to pretend I was cliff burton. Then I had an opportunity to get a electric flying v guitar at age 12, 7 years later I mowed lawns to buy the guitar and still today at age 42 I'm playing guitar daily.
Rob Trujillo is a great player and all. Not taking anything away from him, but Jason was waaaay more dynamic and you could tell he gave so much of himself in each performance. You could almost literally hear him collapse after each one from expending so much energy. I’m sure the vast quantities of booze helped too! Haha 😆 🤘😎🤘
No question Cliff was a genius bass player. Jason can more than hold his own and made Metallica worth watching. I won't take anything away from Rob, he can play as well. It's just too bad Rob is playing in a band that is no longer Metallica but still uses the name

And unfortunately he was only 24 years old when he died, with that I mean master pieces he wrote and the musical influence he brought to the band at such a young age its unbelievable and that's what made Metallica. Jason was more like the fire on stage. Although Cliff could give awesome background singing, Jason was more brutal than Cliff. Rob has awesome talents, no background singing at all unfortunately. So yeah, every 3 the bassists had/has their own skills on stage and I've respect for all them. Personal opinion of course 😎👊

That documentary was kind of depressing for me because I just assumed they were this relentless band of metal maniacs conquering the world and then you get to see they are like 4 girls stuck in a relationship that is coming to an end. Working creatively with other people is difficult since everyone has a different idea and brings something different to the table. I took a script writing class and there were 4 of us - it was brutal just to get through it because everyone had different ideas of how we should go. In the end we took little ideas from every person and put them together. Was it good? No. But when you are working in a group you make compromises.
Jason is such a showman. Miss the dude in Metallica, but at the same time, Metallica's direction did not align with Jason. I basically only listen to Metallica's first 4 albums, because I find the rest of them just meh.

I just prefer the style of the albums previous to the BA. I always gravitate towards Kill'Em All and Master of Puppets actually. Even Load and Reload have some nice songs, but I never find myself wanting to listen to them. If the songs are on I enjoy them, but I would never think: "I want to listen to Load/Reload".

Watching this brings back memories of seeing Metallica on the black album tour. As said in the comments below Rob is a solid bass player but Jason's backing vocals set a tone in MetallicA. but man that screen at the end.. makes me miss his growl in Creeping Death.

I was at that show. Jason band was great black label was awesome and Megadeth was awesome first time seeing them.

Watching this brings back memories of seeing Metallica on the black album tour. As said in the comments below Rob is a solid bass player but Jason's backing vocals set a tone in MetallicA. but man that screen at the end.. makes me miss his growl in Creeping Death.

Saw Cliffs last gig in solnahallen,and after his passing I had a hard time accepting Jason as I he new guy,since Cliff was the reason I started playing bass,later on switched to guitar,but he grew on me,really seems a good guy and a great musician
