  • Prague, Czechoslovakia.
Several shots of Wenceslas Square in Prague; C/U of statue of King Wenceslas; general street scenes showing traffic, trams and people crossing a road. People buy nuts (?) and oranges from a fruit stall in the street; a woman counts money on a small flower stall; people look in a shop window.
Several shots of St Vitus' Cathedral; large crowds of people come out of a service there. Numerous shots of a very crowded Jewish cemetery; a man walks past looking at the Hebrew inscriptions on the tombstones; there is patchy snow on the ground. Several views of the old town square; the ornate clock that is all that is left of the old town hall that the Nazis burnt down. We see a street in the Lesser Town, where the houses had names instead of numbers; several house signs on the walls.
L/S looking over the river to the Charles Bridge, with the castle and St Vitus' Cathedral in the background; view from the bridge looking towards the old town and Cathedral; C/U of a statue of a Bishop on the bridge. Several shots of beautiful architecture in the streets around the Castle; views of the Cathedral; the 'Fairy Street' behind the cathedral, with small, candy-coloured cottages covered with snow; C/Us of windows and doorways in this street.
Various shots of a snow clearing machine in the street, funnelling snow into a lorry. Lovely M/S of the river in a golden light; a boy stands on a small boat beside the snowy bank; C/U of icicles on plants on the riverbank. Several shots show men and women in trunks and swimming costumes, getting into the river on Boxing Day - it looks freezing!. On a wooden jetty, they rub snow on their faces and chests to warm up. Various shots of people on a crowded outdoor ice-rink; children put on ice-skates beside the rink.
Cuts exist - see separate records.
