What your father is offering you and us is a very straight and sensible evaluation of the current situation again. Autumn and Winter are usually the periods to improve mileage, to do strength and stability work and to bust up your oxygen uptake level (what your father describes as strength orientated mile repeats). These are not the workouts that make you faster on your next mile competition, but they improve the basic qualities you need before doing the specific workouts to prepare for a real fast mile.

Hey Spence, pro cooking tip: You can add collagen to your food to make it thicken up. If you have a sauce or something in your meal you can add collagen to make it thicker. Just shooting out the idea that you might wanna incorporate some type of meal that you can add collagen into so that you won't have to taste it.

I went and rewatched your sub4 story. Great UA-cam storytelling. In your early years of high school you took a couple months off of running and did the swim team. Swimming builds a great aerobic base while giving your running structure and systems a chance for rest and recovery. So my 2 cents, because it's UA-cam comments and everybody gets to put in 2 cents. I wonder if your limitations with the Beasts training was due to their different approach to aerobic cross training. With your injury history lowering the overall running mileage seems like a good idea, which is probably why your dad isn't pressing mileage despite being a marathoner (and therefore a mileage guy). But the limiting factor in the end of race kick and overall times is aerobic. You are fast enough to win a lot of races at the middle distance level but you've recently had a bad split (often the 3rd lap or 4th) which suggests a need for more aerobic strength.

i agrre with what you say about treadmill workouts. never used to use them but now my aging body apreciates the softer, even surface. i now do one hard session a week on the 'mill.
Re. what your dad said in the last post about your overall mileage. Seb Coe's coach (coincidentally also his father) kept his mileage low by the standards of the 1970s and '80s when 100+ mile weeks were standard even for milers but said that the key was lots of sessions at 5K pace and a lot of heavy weight work in the gym.

I wonder what the thought process is or if the injury was really recent because there is and will allways be a huge pool of guys consistently putting in way more work than this.
