Mark my words, these will continue to get higher for a few years then we'll start working our way back down. In 5 years we'll be at normal heights again and people will be talking about all the benefits of lower mounts again. This is like girls and their high / low rise pants. High in the 50's low in the 60's-70's high in the 80's low in the late 90's-00's and now they're back to ridiculously high, running stretch pants halfway up their backs. 😂
That shit is hilarious. We called them mom jeans for fucks sake, now the kids are like..."I'm sexy with my jeans pulled up to my ribs!" lmao I'm actually fairly convinced it's to hide their fat rolls nowadays...since the new norm is fat.
I think it also has to do with use cases
Most of recent US military engagements have been in the sandbox, out in the open, with some urban warfare and CQB here and there. For those cases, riser actually is pretty handy
Now can you imagine fighting in a trench in Ukraine with your optic half a mile above your barel? It would make the soldier have to expose himself way too much and/or cause him to shoot the dirt. There’s a reason optics in WWI and II started to be placed on the side of the weapons
I'm not an expert and I haven't been around for more than a little over two decades, but I feel like the same thing is going on with the change to larger calibers rather than intermediate, as well as the change to rifle length barrels instead of carbine length ones. Who knows, maybe this is also a cycle, like many other things in the world. Perhaps it's just the videos I watch and have watched over the last decade, that's also very much a possibility. Either way I can't help but sometimes think that the perfect rifle ON PAPER would be an intermediate cartridge bullpup with a rifle length barrel and an LPVO with a micro reflex on top (with the mount essentially functioning as a riser, of course). But then there's the list of drawbacks and of course the likelihood of the entire system being a jack of all trades, but master of none. For air rifles it's less of a drawback though, but air rifles themselves are sort of a drawback (though capable).
@rube6729 it's 100% to hide their fat.. now a days, every man should make their first hangout with a female, a swimming date. No only will you see their real face after the makeup comes off, they cant hide all the fat.
Thanks Chase for sharing your wisdom, one of the best informative videos I've seen on this topic.
Awesome info. I used to be old school and mount directly on the rail, just like I was taught back in the day. That was ok back in the open desert, but going into rooms it sucks having to make the "tactical turtle", especially if you have spinal injuries (like many of us do). So I have my riser about in the middle, not too high, and not too low. It's much more comfy to shoot. I appreciate that our gear is evolving and I'm glad y'all put out this video.
Awesome educational video to cut through all the drama. Thank you! I wish there was a drop chart for a 50/200 zero too.
That's not likely to jive with the increased height over bore anymore though, it affects the zero points.
Even if people are looking to buy a flip riser for their magnifiers, you should still include the EOTech mounts. I'd imagine it being unfortunate to open your Eotech box only to find you can't use it until you do even more research to find the mount for your setup.
I’m sure they will still have options with mounts as well, the option with no mount will be a little cheaper
They are probably going to do the same thing aimpoint has been doing with their mounts. Give you the option to purchase with or without. This is good because it will save people money.
@@coltenswindle3827 it really should be cheaper. Otherwise it'll be hidden inflation tax

I like lower 1/3. Good cheek weld. Perfect in prone.
I think a lot of guys that use higher risers don’t have lop set properly.
Cool video though. Love me some eotech sights.
@@ikemouser2580 i run lower 1/3 with my nods, not the worlds most comfortable set up but very doable and easy to get good performance out of. but i wouldnt go any lower than that. and my next rifle build will probably have a t2/p2 on top of an acog or lpvo to make NV shooting easier
I started looking into the benefits of running a riser... About 6 minutes into this video I thought to myself... I wonder if a riser would be helpful for my cross eye dominance... And then he mentions it. I'M SOLD ON RISERS. GREAT VIDEO😊
You are not immune to propaganda. Keep in mind that this is a company, whose intent is ultimately to sell you a product.
Cross eyed is also a good way to scan your 12 - 3 with ease. And helps train your left eye! Good video
Great video and extremely informative 🔥
This video is insanely good and full of real good information WITH the shit head sarcasm and satire that we all love
The 2 EoTechs I own just sit on the top rail with the mount they came with. Nothing fancy.
To each his/her own.
I have a long neck and have serious neck injuries from the Army, when I first tried a riser? I had to get one and couldn’t get away from them
I'm glad someone was finally smart enough to understand that your optic should meet at eye level without having to crunch your neck down awkwardly to use your optic, the natural positions are always the easiest, fastest and most efficient.
Optic immediately at eye level upon shouldering versus shouldering then having to adjust your head until you can utilize your optic, there's always a better way of doing something until it's perfected, mounting optics at eye level is perfection.
Training is the only way you will become a better shooter... if you couldn't shoot effectively before the riser will help you spend money on something other than training.

@eotechinc it won't let me reply can you tell me what magnifier mount, optic mount you are using I want to get for my EXPS3-4 G45? Also what wrap is used for the rail covering tail cap love the ideas 💡
*This is not an argument. This is only friendly advice from a fellow end user.*
To the individuals who have questions about his stock weld.
The buttstock doesn’t need to be sucked into your body to deliver fast consecutive shots on target. It just has to be touching. To provide just enough contact so the gun doesn’t rotate in flight.
But other than that having a super aggressive stock weld is unnecessary. And not actually beneficial.
Aggressive forward momentum via your lead leg and a firm grip on the further end of the barrel and that’s more than enough. The lower 3/4s of the stock will do just fine.
This also allows you to shoot more naturally without hunching over and doing weird stuff behind the gun.
If you can establish strong forward momentum, strong barrel control, keep your back erect, keep your head and eyes naturally positioned AND get a perfect, deep stock weld. Then yes 100% do that. But if you do all of those other things the full contact stock weld is a little less important
Hope this helps any current or future gunfighters
Surprised this wasn't brought up! Having a suppressor mounted either partially or fully inside the hand guard causing a lot of the M-Lok to be useless is a good use case for risers as well
Excellent. Thanks.
I only use a riser for my range finding weather station and rain gauge on my rifle. It also tells me the time in six different time zones and an alarm clock
WOW . . My 🤯 just exploded . . . XCLNT info . . . Much Appreciation 👊👊
Damn, that drop chart made me realize how important it is to train, which means since there are no long distance ranges locally, that I shouldn't bother buying any of this. I envy people in New Mexico that can just throw steel targets in the back of the pickup, head 10 minutes in any direction and have a perfect range to shoot up
my buddy gave me his older eotech and i love it. thanks for makin such great products. i got my eye on the 1MOA dot for my next one.
I currently run a Unity Tactical setup with my EXPS + Magnifier.. I don't run NV gear, but I do prefer the more upright shooting position that risers offer for the shooter. Once you use a riser, train with them, there is no going back.. imo. I love them! I'm looking forward to getting the Scalarworks EXPS mount coming later this year.. For those who don't already know, the new Scalarworks mount entirely replaces the DQ mount on the EXPS optic.
DJ Shipley covered this in a recent knowledge transfer, "Upright plates presenting stance". nice CR-1 Valkyrie. Shout out to GBRS.
Great info😊
Amazing no one mentions cons of something when new, but yrs later, it’s jacked up. Nobody mentioned uncomfortable and back injuries until industry started pushing risers. Also, optics on the A2 is st-d, but let’s put risers on contemporary ARs? While I see the benefits, I also see the possibility of damage to the system of dropped or stuff getting snagged. I love my EXPS-3 on my 11.5. High enough, yet low to be snag-free.
First thing I did when I got my first AR was get a riser, that was like 4 years ago before risers blew up. I grew up shooting older firearms and immediately disliked how much I had to hunker down to the gun. Only my LPVOs sit at standard height, riser doesn’t make sense if considering range.
So, the higher mount is better that the standard mount but also let me add a cheek riser to “also” bring my cheek weld higher. Marketing is awesome!!!
@@OddFortune this isn’t marketing, this has existed on a number of other platforms, most notably precision rifles. Literally look at any DMR or sniper rifle and they all have cheek risers. The M14 EBR, McMillan chasis, Accuracy International rifles, even the SVD. With a cheek riser you aren’t bringing your cheek down to meet the stock and craning your neck, you’re simply making your stock’s cheekweld taller to accommodate your position for more comfortable shooting.
Tell me you don’t shoot a lot without telling me you don’t shoot a lot
@@DJ-fd4qk what is the purpose of the McMillan Clamp Bar or cheek riser or any of the platforms you mentioned? Isn’t to bring the shooter closer in line to the optic and proper eye relief? Also I don’t shoot my ARs with the same posture I shoot my long range guns. You are 100% right about one thing. I definitely don’t shoot enough. Peace Brah!
@@OddFortune no, actually, since eye relief is distance from the scope not height. It's literally to get optimal head height for when you aim through your scope, for the purpose of consistent sight picture AND comfort so as to reduce movement and straining, cause you shoot better when you're comfortable and not craning your neck. The riser on an AR stock literally does the same exact thing except people bitch about it because its an AR and not a Bolt gun
The modularity is amazing or else I'd just say that after decreasing the height over bore for use as a hunting rifle, people finally figured out what the carry handle was for
You could totally make a two state reticle with two dots basically where one is much lower to account for the mechanical offset in close range engagements and one is higher to zero out to 100 yards or whatever. That way if you're up close you just know to aim with the lower dot and say have it zeroed at 8 or 10 yards and be dead accurate and for anything farther you can use the upper dot. Kind of like a bow sight
What? The bottom of the donut of death circle is for 7 yard engagements. The center dot is for 50/200 yard engagements.
Another use for this would be for 300 Blackout; one dot for subsonic (close) another for supersonic (further out).
@@wilburpost7977they already make that, actually. I'm looking to get one to go on a BRN-180SH someday.
Fantastic
*THANK YOU FOR MENTIONING CROSS EYE DOMINANCE* : IF YOU ARE LEFT EYE DOMINENT and RIGHT HANDED.
I literally have to run the optic higher and canter the system. It sucks, but it's possible and one area people forget is a huge issue.
I'm the opposite. I ended up training myself to shoot with the other hand so much that now it feels more natural than my dominant hand. Although in your case if you were to do this you'd be shooting rifles left-handed so it's just going to be hard just due to the mechanics of the rifle. I've also heard of people being able to retrain their eye dominance, but in the end it's all about training over and over till it is natural feeling.
I am cross eye dominant as well along with having really bad vision in my right eye on top of it all. This canted shooting technique has been super beneficial for me as a shooter and made shooting my carry handle m16 clone a million times easier after adding a red dot. Shooting lefty on a weapon system designed for right handed shooter is just to much extra work on top of learning to change dominant shooting hands.
Carry Handle: "You couldn't live with your own attachments, where did that bring you? Back to me"
General purpose/SHTF I leave at lower 1/3 for cowitness.
A dedicated night vision/cqb gunfighting I'd consider 1.93 or higher.
Very good and informative video! More companies should make content like this!
Have you tried shooting passive while you have one of those flip to center magnifiers installed?
I think DJ Shipley single handedly made them popular by making videos with them explaining guys were leaned down and getting shot above their chest plate
So the alternative is to present your whole (non plated) neck and face to the enemy? I see the riser has a niche to make shooting close range with NODS more effective, but in all other combat scenarios they don't make sense.
That whole thing looks like a "snag hazzard", the only thing that heavy contraption would be helpful for is if it centered the IR laser directly over the bore and forget the magnifier.
The Carry handle weapons had it right the whole time. G-36, AUG, FAMAS, M16, VHS-2, ect.
Has anyone ever told you that you sound a lot like Christian Slater? That's not a bad thing. He's a very underrated character actor, and his distinctive and melodic voice is a definite part of that. That was just something that popped into my peculiar mind. Anywho, I really enjoyed the video, and am a HUGE fan of Eotech.
Also, I know that it's generally irresponsible to romanticize guns, but that carbine is sexy AF. 😏
It’s funny too cause the Delta operators in the 90’s with their carry handle mounted aimpoints were about the same height almost like they already figured this out
I ran a ADM riser with an EoTech in a 3 day carbine class. The ADM riser was equivalent to the Unity Riser height. 2.2 something. It was fantastic the first day which was mostly standing up and square range shooting. The second day when we started awkward shooting positions, barricades, shooting and moving drills, cover and concealment and day 3 around vehicles it became a liability for me. I had terrible issues trying to get good sight pictures I could actually make hits with. You can see an EoTech reticle in awkward shooting positions and still completely miss a target. I know that for a fact. And it gets even harder when SF dudes are screaming at you to get rounds on target and shock collars for hits. Ouch. They really pumped up the stress. I think risers serve a purpose but they definitely are a trend and not for everybody. I think a lot of people run them for the trend or cool factory and gain no benefit from them. On a night vision rig absolutely. They are great for that. Depending on body size and face shape it may work well for you on all your carbines. I’m 5’ 11” with a round face and the riser did not work for me off the square range. But there was a dude in the class that was like 6’ 5” with a long slender face that had a riser and it was perfect for him even when the shooting got awkward. I can shoot those awkward courses of fire from that class with a 1.7 riser with no issue. I gave a riser an honest shake and found it did not work for me.
I honestly have been thinking a lot the different scenarios in which they could be good or bad. I recently put a riser on my eotech and while I do love the heads up position I can shoot from I have wondering what it would be like in less than ideal situations. I am a taller guy which Is mainly why I wanted it to begin with. I kept seeing all the recent preaching on the new way of “heads up shooting” instead of getting down into the rifle. I still have some experimenting to do with it. But your comment definitely got me thinking more about it again.
When I switched from ak to m4 I noticed I had to dig deep to aim, but with riser it’s just like Ak
Ak already rised
So very good to have riser much more comfortable
If you are fast and accurate with your current setup, stick with it. In 5-7 years we will have a fancy video highlighting all the benefits of low mount optics. Next year bell bottoms!
Well no matter if it is in style or not, the ergonomic reason would still be there.
Looks like a massive snag hazard tho. Maybe the carrying handle is gonna make a comeback
The chart that you show for the riser lower 1/3 and absolute a witness for zeroing where can I find that chart to print out?
What is the name of the risers used in the video for both the optic and magnifier?
Shooting under NOD's is the only reason to use a riser and what they were designed for.
A riser creates a bad height over bore and messes up your zero at close range and at distance.
Shhhhhhh! You can't sell people who don't know better really expensive mounts if you tell them that!
You will always have height or a boar when you have an optic riser or no riser. You clearly don’t know much about guns.
Ohh yeah, so when I’m aiming at Center chest thoracic cavity and it hits 2 in down with 5 rounds put into the guy. I’m sure he’s going to care🤣🤣🤣. 🙃🙃🙃
@staymadloser7754 Pipe down jr. The amount of height over bore is relevant, especially when you've trained for years with a lower setup.
Hello, what is the height over bore of an EXPS3 on a Milspec AR15 without an additional riser?
Best regards, Julien
So at 25 yards I need to aim 2.2 inches above my intended target is that correct?
By the end of next year, the risers will be so tall that you will be looking through your red dot while hip firing.
I’ll also add that a full length metal rail like a ris 2 or 3 can add a pound or more to the overall weight to the rifle so now it’s heavy and front heavy. You don’t even need a metal rail with this. A plastic magpul rail with mlok is good enough to mount a flashlight and is really all you need. Of course if you don’t have night vision then it’s pointless.
What mount do I need for an XPS3 or EXPS3 to add a 4x magnifier to it.
Since you no longer make a 4x, recommend an option.
You have several mounts in front of you but don't talk about them or differences in various heights.
EDIT: If the HoB of a riser isn't that neck friendly prone, is there anyone making it possible to flip both the rds and the magnifier between two heights?
Which risers would you recommend? I've been to your website and I'm not seeing them anywhere.
I'm kind of surprised that an upright posture when engaging allows for a more correct plate placement wasn't covered.

Get strong if the rifle is too heavy. The holosight is the size and complexity it is for a reason and its far superior to even the best red dot.
@D Rawc bro, eotech hasn't changed anything since the early 2000's besides copying a Chinese red dot for handguns...

Shake awake would fix all of those issues and I might actually buy your stuff again.
Maybe, but probably not, because we have auto shut off and our battery life is measured in months and years, but hey, you do you.
It’s like we’re going backwards to the original time when we had carry handles. 🤣.
Not that many countries have NVG for the masses. It’s either special units or thermal from a vehicle
Is this gun just from GBRS's Armory? Looks exactly the same down to the grip tape
How tall are they? How did you not talk about riser height options and considerations?
Can you still run back up iron sights and see through with this riser mount?
I think losing connection to the weapon at your cheek can affect recoil management. I took a class with 2 pretty high level shooters and they just use regular mounts for that reason. I think it just matters what you are going to be using it for. But shredding on split times is another consideration.
Why not run an acog with a dot sight on top? Wouldn't that be the best of both worlds?
I have a montrum lpvo can you recommend a good riser for a scope like that?
Anyone know what stock he’s running on this rifle?
I’m late to the riser party… Where can I find that zero chart?
Does stress response during actual man on man shooting lead to the shooter crunching down behind the gun, or standing in an upright posture? I am sure it would be training dependent, but for an average shooter / cop / soldier, not Delta or SEAL or whatever..... ????
It might, everyone ducks when you get shot at, but you also look for your retical when you get behind your gun, so it is a self correcting problem.

cross eyed dominance is best handled by shooting with The gun on the side of the dominant eye using a non-dominant hand
Hi i bought a hydra mount but it's for eotec can i till use it for Romo?
Considering that's a radian rifle and all of the goodies attached, that appears to be a $7,000 build.
As someone who is cross-eye dominant (wrong handed and right eye dominant) all I can say is that training is key. I taught myself to shoot on the right, so now It feels more natural than left. I've also heard his stories of people retraining eye dominance (though I have no experience with it)
yeah i just forced myself to use my left as my dominant and now its "retrained" i didnt do it with any intention other than not wanting to shoot right handed. just felt better and ended up with my left as the new dominant eye
What people don't seem to address in these high risers is your height as well as your neck length.
People who are short, around 5 ft in height, do not usually have this problem as their neck is also not that tall.
When I draw my rifle, my head barely moves, and I can easily cheek my rifle. I'm running no risers. I don't have NODs, but if I did, I would assume it would be near identical on drawing and cheeking the rifle.
Also, this guy is showing 2 different buttstock positions. One where almost the entire stock pad is in the shoulder pocket, and the other is the bottom of the stock pad in the shoulder pocket. Majority of shooting is done with the bottom part of the stock pad in the shoulder pocket.
This industry is so good at coming up with the “new hotness “ they are making money hand over fist.
Have any charts for those for a 7.62 nato? Asking for a friend it’s helpful
Sight over bor is a huge deal. It’s more challing when you work in a house, a car or such… if you dont train a lot with it it.s not gone work… sorry fore my bad english. I’m from Sweden.
I like that EOTech used the phrase "flexing on the poors".
Running any of their products is already a flex 😂
They kinda invented it lol
