  • The Johnson County Museum in Franklin Indiana is home to a classic 19th century piece of furniture -- a Wooton desk, manufactured at the Wooton Desk Company of Indianapolis. The company operated from the early 1870s through the early 1880s, and created fine furniture for John D. Rockefeller, Madame C. J. Walker, Ulysses S. Grant, and Joseph Pulitzer, to name but a few. The desk was equipped with two side doors that could be closed and locked, protecting the important papers inside.
The Wooton desk owned by the Johnson County Museum once belonged to Dr. Barnett Wallace of Franklin. It was donated to the museum in the early 1960s.
