Thank you for posting this. I was a teenager watching them fall in love. Priceless. I lost my copy of Bill's "Love of Life " album many years ago. What I wouldn't give to hear it again. His version of "If I were a Carpenter" was the best version I ever heard. RIP Bill and Toni.
I still remember him singing "If I Had a Hammer " to Tess I think she was pregnant. I never remember scenes but that one I have never forgotten. The American Humane Association Hero Dogs is starting their awards today and Toni has entered her dog in the Emerging Heroes catagorie if anyone is interested. I saw the name and remembered after nearly 50 years!
By the way, you can view an early September 1969 episode of Love of Life at The Paley Center in either NYC or LA. It features a number of scenes with Toni Bull Bua.
omg!!! I loved them on this soap. They were my favorite couple. Im 52 years old and I remember watching this with my Grandma and mom.We were so upset when they killed off Bill. They both still look great. Thanks Toni for uploading this.
They gave him that rare blood disease when they were renegotiating his contract. He said no so they killed him off. To make sure he could not make a comeback, they wrote his funeral into the show.
@gymnastix Diana ("Di") Lamont was played by Diane Rousseau. I used to see her quite a bit at the CBS Broadcast Center during the summer of 1974 as I would hang out in the control rooms of "Love of Life" and "As the World Turns" daily during my lunch hour. Our office was immediately above the "Love of Life" office. One day, Diane walked into our outer office, looked around, and asked, "Is this 'Love of Life'?" I said, "No, Diane. Go down one flight. They're directly below us."
Ms. Bua, you and your husband did a fantastic job on this show. You played a lovely couple. I saw a clip of you and Melinda Fee as Victoria Randolph and you were excellent there too. You and Gene are a fabulous couple and you still are great. Thanks for this lovely clip. :)
I detrained at 34th st/Penn and he stayed on so he could have been heading for 50 or 59 st. The amount of production that was done on w57 st was truly amazing-they were constantly changing sets because they had so little floor space; nosets were permanent. That must have been very costly because it was so labor intensive, but I am certain that the number crunchers determined consolidating everything would be a saving and imagine what the vacated spaces were worth as developable real estate!!!
Many thanks to saynotoursoap for forwarding this clip to me. I watched Toni and Gene together during the last months of "Somerset," and have always been curious to see them together on "Love of Life." Of course, watching this, I only wish I could see more!
I also recall "Bill" and "Tess" having been friends with another young couple in this era--"Jamie" & "Sally," were they? Initially, one of them had a drug problem. But, after all, this was the 1960s, so soaps were becoming socially relevant. The actor who played "Jamie" (Ray Wise) played "The Devil" on some prime time series in more recent years.
Ray Wise wasn't the original "Jamie Rollins." The first Jamie was on the show only briefly. His girlfriend was "Sally", yes. "Sally Bridgeman", I think. Their fathers worked for the same company, where Jamie's father was Sally's father's boss and they hated each other. Eventually, Tess's much older husband, John Randolph, who owned the above mentioned company and was wealthy, was murdered, and Bill and Tess were charged with his murder. Jamie's father was eventually (during Bill and Tess's trial) found to be the guilty party. He had worked for John Randolph and had killed him when Mr. Randolph found him robbing the company's safe and they struggled over a pistol.
this really brings back the memories!!!I only wish that the opening with that Charles Paul theme was audible...but who ever thought that these shows would disappear. I was in a luncheonette in Utica,Ohio on 2-1-1980---that sad day. I once saw the actor who played Linc Martindale on the #1 train (NYCTA) heading north to the CBS studios on W.57th Street memorizing the script. I was surprised at what a little guy he was. Anyway thanks for this clip
And I always liked "Bill's" father (I think he was), "Charles Lamont," who was good friends with and (neighbors of, too, I think) "Van" and "Bruce." I remember he had a moustache, looked very avuncular, and was witty. I can't recall his wife's name. You can see this beautiful, young couple falling in love, right here in this scene--how sweet. Nice at least something of their romance on the soap survived. Too bad more soaps of this period have not survived.
ps Morrison sounds more like it; I guess I was confusing the surname with the host of the game show Gambit hosted by a LA disc jockey Wink Martindale. my bad. the grand prize was an AMC Gremlin---it was such a low budget show that they would show a plastic glue together replica of the car spinning on a turntable. funny the things that we remember!!
He had a singing career prior to his acting career. Many of his singles are posted here on UA-cam if you search Gene Bua. He wrote the majority of those songs. Golly Gee made the top 100 in '58 or '59. He had a band called The Cardinals and there is a reunion video here on UA-cam that includes a recap of his career. My brother was one of the guitar players in his band.
@orbit14915 Check out my UA-cam Channel -- LOL! (Or, maybe I should say L OF L -- which appeared as part of the header information on the script pages.) If you're talking about Link Morrison, he was played by George Kane, and later by John Gabriel. If I'm not mistaken, L OF L was being taped at CBS Studio 52 on West 54 Street during the time period that Link Morrison was in the story. I'm not sure if it was 1972 or 1973 when the show moved to the CBS Broadcast Center on West 57 Street.
I lived yess & b….. back then😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Loved “THIS” super couple♥️♥️
Rest in peace, Gene. You will be missed.
I remember him from college point playing stick ball and him singing ava Maria at Saint Fidelis may he rest in peace
RIP Toni u were truly a beautiful woman and wonderful to watch.

This is a great gift to Toni & Gene ... Please post more if you have any more Love of Life clips!! TY for posting
WONDERFUL! THANK YOU for sharing this wonderful video. So nice to hear them sing together.

Where can I see that song he sang!
One of my first favorite soaps and favorite couple! So nice to see this after so many years.
art imitating life...beautiful gene and toni...love finds a way for sure!
Gene + Toni += Daytime TV Magic!!!
These two are my favorite couple ever! Does anybody have more old reels of these two together?
Good ????? Vvvvvvvv
Tess and Bill were daytime's first super-couple, before Doug and Julie on Days or Luke and Laura on GH. All of them the best ever.

I was named after her this character, my brother liked her, and kept calling me Tess, my mom add a “Y”, and here I am 😊
Sad that both have passed away.😭

I'm trying to figure out if Gene Bua was a singer or an actor because I have a record with his name and a lot of songs can someone clue me in.
He had a singing career prior to his acting career. Many of his singles are posted here on UA-cam if you search Gene Bua. He wrote the majority of those songs. I wish there were more clips of them or at least a episode guide. I need to know what happened to their characters. Did they got a happy ending?
What year would this scene have been from? Toni was very pretty here and Gene handsome--together they make a very attractive couple. :-)
