Pretty chilling to think about, but that plane at 33:52 I believe to be N591UA, if you zoom in on it. And, N591UA is Flight 93 that was hijacked and crashed in Pennsylvania during the 9/11 attacks. The whole thing lines up, with it being a United 757, and this being taken in early 2001. Which means this video was probably taken a few months before the accident. Terrifying.
Thank you so much for this!!! I worked at LAX from 97-99 and it was a joy to see these same planes while I was there. Some of the 757’s featured are still in service today. Sad to see the China Southern 777-200 was scrapped after 18 years of service. What an amazing mix of quads and tri-jets ❤️
A lot of the planes in this video are still flying. 6:44 654AW now as American, 10:43 434UA, VP-BAY (Aeroflot) is now N1013A with Amazon Prime Air, 17:11 N14118 still flying as United, 17:53 713TW is still flying but for Delta, 23:58 521NA is now 979FD with FedEx, 24:17 HL7422 is currently 419MC with Atlas Air, 33:40 N470UP still with UPS, 35:44 270YV is still going strong as N129CZ with Freight Runners Express, 40:53 547NA is now OE-LNH with DHL in Europe. Crazy how the early A320s and 757s outlasted the A330s and 777s shown in the video.
Nice. I find it interested that an old civilian Aeroflot passenger plane with Russian registration is now registered in the USA flying as a civilian cargo plane. That's probably something that won't happen again any time soon lol.
So awesome to be able to watch this. At least we can still experience all the awesome aircraft, liveries and airlines that are (sadly) no longer around.
7:08 A Tower Air 747-100, probably one of it's last flights since the airline retired later that year. They may not have been the best airline, but you have to give them a little respect for only operating the 747 Classic during it's 25 year career
Yes, very likely one of it's last flights. I worked at Polar Air Cargo during this time at their HQ and we had many Tower crews come to work for us after their collapse in early 2001.
So much about this video takes me back in an instant. It feels so strange to see MD80s, tri-stars, 737s without winglets, L1011s…. How things have changed.

fun fact. the a320 has stood the test of time. The a320 came out BEFORE the md11. which is retired. the a320 also came out before the 777 and the 737ng
Time stamp 3:24, TWA 757 !!! ❤ This was their most beautiful livery !! What a shame that at that time, they were on the verge of merging with American.😢
Why do old videos look much more lively (despite bad quality) than modern 4k ones? is it the technology? The old ones look like real life( the fluidity of moving objects etc)
yes, the newer videos look like they move in a weird way, in all honesty the newer technology is not great... we use GoPros for cockpit filming and we tend to buy the new ones when they come out... last year we had bought a bunch of GoPro 11s and they were terrible to the point we ended up replacing a bunch of them with GoPro 9s. The videos looked washed out in many cases....
@@justplanes thanks. The reason for the question is that a number of planes, including the B727, and several airlines (such as ATA) largely stopped flying in the immediate aftermath of Black Tuesday
It was before because at 34 minutes exactly you can see a United 757 registered N591UA. Which is one of the aircraft that was hijacked and intentionally crashed on 9/11. That video was probably taken a few months before. Scary to think about.
@@PhillyPhilly248 unbelievable. I suspected it was before just because of the number of 727s visible. A plane that has largely disappeared sunce. That item about the United B757, which was eventually the plane assigned to flight 93 tdat morning is just one more unbelievable irony in all of this.
Yes, at 34 minutes exactly you can see a United 757 registered N591UA, the exact plane that was hijacked and crashed in Pennsylvania during the 9/11 attacks. This was probably taken a few months before.

UPDATE 1: I've done a complete overhaul of the thing.
WOW you really put some work into this, congratulations and thanks for doing that!
@@justplanes No problem! All this is a day's work.
I-DEID isn’t a very nice registration for a plane lol
thank you for this research, this rocks
Very welcome @MCOplanespotter

Plane spotting with older cameras just hits different.
This type of camera quality doesn’t capture good videos
It captures feelings, lasting memories, nostalgia, happiness.
So awesome to be able to watch this. At least we can still experience all the awesome aircraft, liveries and airlines that are (sadly) no longer around.
Glad you're enjoying it!
What a beautiful video! Such nostalgia! 🤩😍
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
I gave this video a LIKE before I even watched it. Keep em coming JP.
hahaha thats very kind of you, much appreciated thank you!!
Same here, always know it’s gonna be good footage!
Thank you for capturing this! I’d guess half these types of aircraft don’t even fly in 2024. Love the L10-11’s!
Very welcome!
10:49 did not expect to see a VARIG plane in this video!
Wow, those were the golden days of commercial airplane spotting :). I wonder if you could digitally enhance this video to 4k. Just amazing to watch.
Video Quality, Sound Quality, The Roar of Jet Engines is Great ❤❤
15:04 I still miss the good old days when Aeroflot flew to the US especially Los Angeles. Hopefully they return soon.
Maybe when the war is over. More western airlines also flew to Russia before the war
An IL86/96 would have made it even cooler. I forgot AFL flew 767's
Good bounce from that JAL MD-11 right at the beginning.
So much about this video takes me back in an instant. It feels so strange to see MD80s, tri-stars, 737s without winglets, L1011s…. How things have changed.
26:55 beautifull takeoff. it's a shame that Varig went bankrupt, it was the greatest brazilian airline
4:22 Love that PW JT9D-20 roar on that Northwest DC-10-40. Look for that distinct bulge in the center inlet for the DC-10-40
4:23 Ah yes, northwest DC10 12:40 L-1011 9:20 RIP Alitalia

MD-80 and the 757 the best!
45:00 reverse thrust before touchdown
Nice correction on that Delta 777 upon landing.
Such a shame it retired the 777’s while its 767’s are still going.
Love the American Mad Dogs and the Northwest DC-10
Really miss those United 767-200s. Those PW-JT9D engines roared during take off. You should dedicate a video to United 767-200s.
Northwest DC10 is very impressive
Pretty chilling to think about, but that plane at 33:52 I believe to be N591UA, if you zoom in on it. And, N591UA is Flight 93 that was hijacked and crashed in Pennsylvania during the 9/11 attacks. The whole thing lines up, with it being a United 757, and this being taken in early 2001. Which means this video was probably taken a few months before the accident. Terrifying.
Kitty Hawk Aviation is my new favorite 747
Was just at KGYR in AZ yesterday looking B-2055 all dismantled, crazy to see this video just now and see it in action at 23:04!
Sir do you have any more old videos of planespotting?
At 34 minutes you will see United Airlines Flight 93
Looks like it is too! N591UA
good seeing the old air new zealand 767 from my country!
Nice video sir.
20:34 is a beautiful sound and sight
I wish I could have experienced these days. Nowadays it's more or less just A320 737 for narrow and 787 for the widebodies😢
08:36 The Boeing 767 of Lan Chile (Now LATAM airlines) Bestufull remembers of Lax, Greetings from Chile 🖤🖤🖤🖤
Hello Chile
@@justplanes ❤️❤️❤️😃
How many years ago were these videos taken?
fun fact. the a320 has stood the test of time. The a320 came out BEFORE the md11. which is retired. the a320 also came out before the 777 and the 737ng
Correct
Time stamp 3:24, TWA 757 !!! ❤ This was their most beautiful livery !! What a shame that at that time, they were on the verge of merging with American.😢
That wasnt a merger. It was a shotgun marriage which American forced by setting up a phony hub in St Louis that American never intended to keep
11:33 hermoso ❤🛫
Something I’ve noticed here is that almost none of those planes are from Airbus! I wish I could go back a decade or two and watch these planes.
Back when the US had more than just a handful of carriers.
33:58 do you know which plane this is and flight 93
25:26 St Mella only scrapped a few years ago….
The amount of 747’s mannn
who else flew the L1011 besides delta?
T.W.A. & A.T.A. are two that I know of.
Ata and American
Cathay pacific and british airways aswell
TAP Air Portugal.
Eastern’s a biggie
Must have been the early-mid part of 2001. 34:00 does anyone else read N591UA (United 93)? Hard to tell but it’s a pretty good guess
I think it’s 597. 😢
Edit: there’s a couple frames where it does actually look like a 1…
Looks like it for sure.
It’s 591 indeed - the 7 in 597 has the vertical line ending in the middle of the space, and here the vertical bar is parallel to the U.
Essa era a época dos maiores tri jatos e o domínio do 747
Why do old videos look much more lively (despite bad quality) than modern 4k ones? is it the technology? The old ones look like real life( the fluidity of moving objects etc)
yes, the newer videos look like they move in a weird way, in all honesty the newer technology is not great... we use GoPros for cockpit filming and we tend to buy the new ones when they come out... last year we had bought a bunch of GoPro 11s and they were terrible to the point we ended up replacing a bunch of them with GoPro 9s. The videos looked washed out in many cases....
Q : were these taken before or after September 11?
I do not have the exact dates but I would assume yes
@@justplanes thanks. The reason for the question is that a number of planes, including the B727, and several airlines (such as ATA) largely stopped flying in the immediate aftermath of Black Tuesday
at 34:00 it looked to be United 93 N591UA it’s hard to see though
It was before because at 34 minutes exactly you can see a United 757 registered N591UA. Which is one of the aircraft that was hijacked and intentionally crashed on 9/11. That video was probably taken a few months before. Scary to think about.
@@PhillyPhilly248 unbelievable. I suspected it was before just because of the number of 727s visible. A plane that has largely disappeared sunce. That item about the United B757, which was eventually the plane assigned to flight 93 tdat morning is just one more unbelievable irony in all of this.
34:04 this is before the most infamous accident in aviation history a few months later in the same year 😢
the plane at that timestamp is the one that crashed as ua93
